Police were deployed in psu overalls at the game yesterday as normal deployment in a high risk game.

their helmets need to be carried with them inside the ground and are carried on belts dangling , unfortunately there is nowhere else to carry them!

there were no Cardiff fans chased into a warehouse that I have been made aware of or saw. I was stood directly outside the warehouse post match and did not see any chasing going on!!

An escort to a group of Cardiff fans  was provided both to and from temple meads . Police horses and other officers assisted in this escort .

there was an incident at the end of the game behind the atyeo stand where 1 Cardiff was arrested. Coins and bottles were thrown between groups of fans for which officers would have had to then put these helmets on had it continued. However we very quickly gained control and this was not needed.

there was also an incident in Ashton terrace where another Cardiff fan was arrested.

both have been charged to court with public order offences

a third Male from Bristol City was also arrested at half time for being drunk and abusive to stewards . He has also been charged to court

Pretty sure I’ve seen a video of it this morning

There have been some problems with this area whereby there have been more fans than seats, this has led to overcrowding and persons getting inured when goals scored.

stewards have been increased in this area as I am sure you have all noticed in an effort to ensure the area continues to remain safe for everyone. We have been used to assist the stewards in this.

There has been some occasions where some fans have not been as conooerative as others and this has led to issues whereby stewards have not been able to do their jobs.

i have seen a improvement in the area with this issue and we continue to speak to the club on a match by match basis regarding deployment of police in this area.

The increased stewarding I don't particularly agree with as I find it excessive, but thanks for providing the reasoning.

However....that still doesn't explain the police presence. And why 3000 Cardiff fans and 3700 Leeds fans require no officers in the stand at all, (two sets of fanbases historically notorious for causing trouble at away matches). Yet for a small home section of around 1000 fans there are 15+ police officers armed with batons and the like. We are being treated unfairly in S82 that much is quite evident.

Hi Julie,

Who at the club is your main point of contact when deciding where and how many police offers to distribute in the ground?

Is it Dave Storr?

I have to echo what others have said, excessive stewarding, okay if the fans in that area do continue to stand where they shouldn't etc then that is understandable as stewards should be able to deal with issues such as that within the stadium. But officers with all the gear inside the stands? Sure have them in the concourse if need be so they can reach any point of the stands quickly if required but amongst home fans, and notably a particular set of home fans in such numbers seems overly excessive.

None of which explains why there was a need for police officers to stand amongst home supporters.

I bet It's because there is nowhere else at the South Stand end where they can watch the game discretely ......unlike they do in the two corner entrances at the Atyeo end.

From the Dolman I saw plenty of police in the Atyeo for both the Leeds and Cardiff games.

Admittedly, not in amongst the fans but down them front on the left hand side (assuming your view is for  the South stand)

Please post the link then and I will investigate !!!

No thanks Julie. I'm not interesting in landing any City fans in trouble, I'm more interested in finding out why there are police officers present in football stands at home games now and why the display that people spent their hard earned cash and a lot of time on was recklessly destroyed by the club.

I saw a large number of Police watching from the balcony under the Heinekein sign on Saturday.

From what I saw you did not quickly get it under control...in fact 3 Cardiff fans broke through the gates to get to the city side and their was no police around to break up the ensuing punches

Hi Julie, as always, thanks for your input.

I was wondering, do you have a helmet?

I got there shortly after it had started by which time it was under some control.

cctv captures all of it so I will look tomorrow and see what exactly happened

Dave Storr is the day to day contact.

matchday distribution of police officers once they have been requested by the club is down to the inside police commander in consultation with the safety officer on the day.

Thanks.

@JulieH, Is the 'safety officer on the day' a Bristol City FC employee?

Which members of staff at Bristol City FC were directly involved with the decision to fill the area in question with police officers?

Where was the high risk in the South Stand then?

What kind of shit organisation allows both sets of fans to leave at the same time anyway.

I am afraid I don’t know as I was in the control room at all during the day.

Thanks - would you be able to find out please?

Please could you also answer my question "Which members of staff at Bristol City FC were directly involved with the decision to fill the area in question with police officers"?

Thanks.. but 'again', would you be able to find out?

With respect, I find it hard to believe you can't find out which members of staff at Bristol City FC were directly involved with the decision to fill the area in question with police officers..
