How can they say they spend two years compiling fixture lists?

Never to the dark side

It’s probaby because in bygone years fixtures had to be compiled by hand by somebody usuing paper and pencils. Nowadays computers “help” and make things much easier, except for clubs and supporters, who have to travel long  distances midweek. Such is progress

Computers can only do it quicker than a an and pencil. If they are incorrectly programmed, the result is four times when both Bristol clubs are playing at home.

Blame the programmers not the computers! It never happened in the old days.

Probably like the Chilcot report, they have to be approved by everybody, ie the FA so there are no clashes with premier league matches, the teams just relegated so that it won't impede their immediate promotion back to the premier league and anyone except those teams and fans who might be affected by these ludicrous fixtures!

Very true, as per old computing adage of “rubbish in, rubbish out”

It certainly doesnt make sense that the computer isnt programmed to avoid long distance midweek matches.  A bit of a trek for PNEers tuesday and would have to leave work mighty early to make it.

Unfortunately, there could never be a fool-proof system, because of the different teams in each Div. each year. I have noticed, though, that if City have a midweek  fixture, like next Tuesday's against PNE, where the opposition team/fans have a long journey, the reverse fixture is also invariably midweek.

Programmers will only program as per requirements.

Blame the requirements (from the suits).
