:fingerscrossed: that this eventually leads to a common sense decision that will greatly enhance Bristol's transport needs and provision... thousands of people will benefit in multiple ways if this station gets the go ahead and comes to fruition.

Will be kicked into the long grass with the council & network rail stating no funds and not a priority as well as the negative transport strategy BCC has always followed

Exactly...just get it built, along with the rest of the Portishead line and the Henbury loop ...ffs anyone else would’ve had it done ages ago! ....heard last week that the electrification to Temple meads from Chippenham is now deferred indefinitely....ran out of money apparently...you just couldn’t make it up ! :grr:

Whist we're on the subject. Pretty strong evidence to say that the Tories, Labour and the Liberals are all crap and nothing ever happens in Bristol when this lot are constantly punching each others faces in, hence why they created the Mayor. Although that's all gone pear since it all went party political again, and nothing has happened at all since "Do Nothing Marv" has been in charge. Pretty safe bet to watch this space for a heap load of nothing to come storming down those tracks with him at the helm.

An Ashton Gate station and the line to Portishead's are great ideas, especially as most of the railway line is already built. Lets be honest, only Bristol could have an existing train line coming from one of it's biggest and fast expanding dormitory towns, and fail to get its act together to put trains on it.

For the record: Portishead's MP is the Brexwit Liam Fox who's been the sitting MP for 25 years now, Oh and he's in charge of negotiating a Brexit trade deal with Europe now. Meanwhile, members of his constituency sit in ever growing tail backs on the roads going too and fro to Bristol.

Luck with that.

Is it Tory bashing time again? Lets blame them for everything. I am going for a cuppa tea. And have you seen the price of it these days? Thats the Tories as well.

You’re right, since our last arrogant PM thought he backed an unbeatable horse by giving the people the option on voting for Brexit

Wasn't that in the manifesto to have a vote?

Don't see where the arrogance was, unless you're saying he was arrogant enough to think the people wouldn't vote to leave.

Get down and state your views if possible. I note the politicians from the dark side are trying to sabotage any chance of that line opening, in favour of spending the money on the already wealthy northern area transport infrastructure.

Dr. Beeching.. What political persuasion was he? That was public transports Waterloo that was.

Imagine, if that had never happened and the govt of the day managed to find the money to subsidise the loss making lines public transport and particularly rail and tram would be so much more of our daily lives today akin to what the London commuter experiences. Now we are playing catch up and its hugely expensive and laborious.

Beeching was brought in by the Department for Transport as a consultant. He had no major party affiliation. It also just so happens that the guy in charge of DfT at the time had strong connections to a firm that had been appointed on the construction of the countries new motorways!

They only put it in the manifesto because they thought it was an unbeatable horse ( yet another example of the opinion polls being massively wrong) and to appease the far right and besides, since when do the Tory party keep it’s manifesto promises?

Afraid you are wrong... He WAS an affiliate of the Labour Party and was Chairman of British Railways in the early 60's.

Regardless... Personally i despised him and so did everybody else in our household. And it was years after his axing that i came on the scene such was the strength of anger at what his brief succeeded in doing to our railways. And whenever i wanted to go somewhere i always preferred the train, when i found out the place had no station i always cursed by saying that bastard Beeching again.

Far right my eye.

There was a clear groundswell of opinion in favour of a referendum and it could not have been ignored forever.

If not called by Hameron then it would’ve happened sooner or later. Particularly given events in the preceding decades:

I. Joining the EEC in 72 despite strong public opinion against the idea.

II. Secretly shadowing the ERM

III. Ousting Thatcher to turn the EEC into the EU and impose the ERM and Maastricht without voter consent

IV. Abandoning the cast-iron referendum promise on the Constitutional Treaty, like Labour, pretending that Lisbon was a fait accompli

Anyway, I’m way off topic here. Hopefully a rail station at AG gets the green light; the trek from TM or PS is a royal pain.

Any chance they can open Brislington station again?

So, the far right were the majority that voted to leave then?

They kept that one.

Whereas the socialists don't let on to what they plan, in relation to removing our borders, changing our culture, changing our cities with mass immigration, devaluing our people as a result and generally telling all and sundry that if you differ in opinion than them, you are a racist and bigot.

The thread has gone 'off the rails', its been 'side tracked' by political 'point switching'  Lets get it back on track eh? and insist Ashton Gate Rail Station/Halt happens.

The City of Bristol, the local communities of Ashton/Portishead, sports fans, commuters, local traders grid locked  roads etc etc all NEED this 'no brainer' of a local transport solution.

So we NEED, not just want, an Ashton Gate Station/Halt linked to a passenger rail Bristol/Portishead service.

Lack of funding? ... perhaps this idea might help it along :

I suggest creating & ring fencing revenue from that multi million £ black hole of a non existent 'Arena' site next to Temple Meads.. to be used towards the cost of A G Station. Until the powers that be decide how to rescue the Arena plans or scrap em altogether for something else on that ready prepared road linked and bridged wasteland, why not may use of (& revenue from) it with minimum development costs?

Turn that expensive wasteful white elephant site into a City Park & Ride ... make use of the existing regular number 8 & 9 Temple Meads to Clifton bus services, extend their routes beyond Temple Meads by a few hundred metres and provide a P&R.

Drivers, commuters etc can park and travel relaxed through the centre of the city and beyond (why not make it a hop on/hop off service?) for a few quid ticket beating frustrating city centre jams and expensive or inconvenient town parking. It would be a useful addition to the popular Bristol Flyer bus services to and from the airport too.

Of course Sports Fans would find it a Godsend, being able to park near Temple Meads and using 'the new' (partly Park & Ride funded) rail service to the super handy new Ashton Gate Rail Station.  (taking much of the pressure off of the residential roads to, from, Ashton Gate at the same time)

Marvin Rees better not even think of using 'funding' as a prohibitive reason for not supporting and making AG Station happen..

Not after going public with his hare-brained pet project ideas that he seems to think wouldn't be a problem for CHINA to fund (and own, ffs) ...  ie :  his seriously proposed underground railway tunnel links to Bristol Airport, or his plans to demolish the roads and flyovers of Cumberland Basin so he can develop the site for his (Western Harbour) plan of waterside yuppie housing and building a new bridge nearer to the Iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge to replace the lost road junction network. !!

Come on Marvin, Get Real, Keep It Simple Stupid, if you want the people of Bristol to support and respect you, create revenue from that cash drain black hole of an Arena site, use it to help fund a rail station at Ashton Gate (oh, a park and ride arena site service might be good, should raise a few bob eh?)  ..and you can become a popular Bristol Mayor with a worthwhile legacy.. people will love you and think you are a genius .... like me! :)
