FOREST GREEN have issued an apology after rain-soaked Crewe Alexandra supporters left their designated away terrace to join home fans in the covered North Stand.

Torrential rain during the game saw drenched Crewe fans on the exposed West Stand open terrace, jump pitch-side barriers and join Rovers' fans in the covered home end.

A FGR spokesperson, said: “We apologise to our fans in the North Stand. The decision to move visiting fans was against our wishes, and we’re taking steps to ensure it does not happen again. CCTV footage of away fans entering the field of play has already been handed to Gloucestershire Constabulary who will work with colleagues from Cheshire Police to identify and ban any supporters who broke the law or ground regulations

"The North Stand is for FGR fans. We have sympathy with away fans when the weather is bad and we’re looking to add a roof to the West Stand next season. In the meantime, away fans need to be prepared for inclement conditions.”

Since when have football fans been scared of getting wet? Never used to be an issue years ago!! The world is becoming too soft, footballers don’t know how they lucky they are to play on the pitches they do now & supporters having roofs & seats to be able to watch games from, there was never anything wrong with watching a game from being stood on the open end while it was raining & players were sliding about on a soaking wet pitch!! It all added to the match day experience & the enjoyment of it all.

How does this merit an apology? Oh no you got wet. So ******* what!

I think you may have misunderstood....The apology was to the FGR fans for having to endure the presence of Crewe fans in their stand and not to the Crewe fans for getting wet

The Crewe supporters have confirmed that FGR stewards also opened gates to let them move areas

I was there for this game...and it looked like the Stewards were ushering the Crewe fans into the covered end from the Open West Terrace. No way was it a rushed mob trying to get in.

This was extremely dangerous, with the long history of aminosity between the two clubs plus the club's infamous hooligan firms this was a second Heysel in the making. Or was it just a hardy group of loyal footy fans getting under cover with another group of hardy and loyal footy fans.

FFS - why do we live in world where every action needs an apology!

Because in some, not fit for purpose, third world “stadiums”, away supporters are still made to stand on uncovered terraces..?

Like at umm.....!

Just watched the highlights and you can see the crewe fans being escorted into the stand. Looks like there is less than 100 home fans in that stand at the time.

Didn't it used to be the away stand before?

What a weird story. So FGR start off by being civil and use common sense and invite away fans under cover with no chance of any problems only for some freak show health and safety nutter with half a brain somewhere at the club back tracking just because some copper or steward saw the event? Whatever excuse FGR give for doing a volte face it will make for interesting reading.

I`m sure Gloucestershire Constabulary are well pleased about having to investigate this potential Armageddon.

Big blow, the forensic investigation required will interrupt their 'how to dry your nail gloss' and 'dressing your patrol car' training courses. Sure they won't mind though as it involves a chance to criminalise some football supporters

They have a forum? I assumed as they are so backward they’d still be communicating  via landline ClubCall

Do you know the reason why they moved them to an open terrace?

Unfortunately I don't TR...It maybe to do with easier segregation and Football league rulings.

It's the first time I've seen the Green Man pub not allowing away fans in either.

I baffled the two stewards when asked whether I was Crewe or FGR...I said 'neither'...it really flummoxed them.

I'd say it was harder for a neutral these days, than an away fan
