Family Club I Dont Think So

Hi sorry for the long winded post but I feel disgusted with my club and just wanted to share whats going on and all this were a family club is utter rubbish.

To cut a long story short I was the person with my ten year old son who were forcibly removed from S82 at half time in the Stoke game and it was discussed on here in other threads and the reason we were removed was because my son was standing on his seat something which he has done since he could stand home and away and it has never been an issue until we moved to the south stand this season.

The outcome was a ban for all home games until the Middlesboro game when we could return on the condition that my son moves from the back of the south stand to the front now I find this very harsh as my son has been a part of the singing section from the old east end to the Williams then to the Atyeo and now to the south stand and he has made some great friends along the way and people may or may not know he has severe learning disabilities and the many friends he has made at football both at home and away games has really helped him in many ways it has given him confidence, a feeling of belonging and due to his disabilities relationships he forms are very important to him and he is devastated he is no longer allowed to sit with people that he has known for almost ten years and this is a child who at school has won awards for his projects on Bristol City as it is something that is very special to him.

Understandably on Saturday there were teething problems as my son cant understand why he is not allowed to sit in his usual place with the people he has always sat with and because of his condition its even harder for him to understand so it was a difficult and stressful day and now I have just received a email from the club saying if he does not sit where the club want him to we will get an indefinite ban how can this be right especially given the fact I had a 2 hour meeting with the club and produce evidence of my sons condition and they have given no reason why he cant sit with people he always has.

To complicate matters further I suffered from P.T.S.D from the abuse I suffered from my time in care and had  to go through many months of counselling and this is why when I go to matches home and away I have to be in the ground when the gates open so I can sit at the back and near the aisle as I get very anxious when I have people behind me due to my experiences in care and this something I have done for almost 25 years.

Now I know people would find it strange why I would want to go to football games if I get nervous in crowds etc the reason is because when I was ten and in care I found Bristol City and it gave me a escape from the horrors of being in care and the football community gave me something I never had a father figure, the late Beryl Fudge was almost like my mum I never had as she would escort me on the cats coaches to away games and made  sure I got there and back in one piece and the late john Dancy would escort me for the home games.

Again I have offered evidence to the club from my doctor and the hospital where I was treated and I have even tried to reason with club by saying if they insist on my son being at the front a friend will stay with him so I can stay at the back but all I get from the club is we tell you where we what you to sit and if you don't play by our rules we will just ban you!!!!

I find it disgusting that fans can be treated like this especially from a fan who has been going since 1980 and a child who thinks Bristol City is his hero and to say there a family club I think they need to have a long look in the mirror

Try writing to SL marking the envelope "Private & Confidential".  I did this on one occasion and received a most satisfactory (and prompt) resolution to my problem. Although my problem was a lot different to yours the same principle applies.

Club need to have a ******* word with themselves, this is absolutely disgraceful.

Is this the incident where stewards had you in a headlock in the room at the top of the balcony, then magically lost any CCTV footage relating to it?

Well I didn't hear that but it sounds like exactly like the sort of thing I'd expect from the pompous pseudo-hard men they employed for the Stoke game.

The club obviously.

Ridiculous state of affairs.

The club should be embarrassed with themselves.

Whats the issue there though? Is it dirt on the seats? It's a football stadium not the ******* Albert Hall.

Quite. The continued misconception of modern football that it all needs to be smiles and friendly and just like a creche. I fell in love with football from about 6 onwards. Atmosphere and standing, it still has the same appeal today, the kids love it more than anything else.

I don't even see the issue with standing on seats, whos bothered?

I don’t either, the kid can see the game and feel part of the crowd. No doubt Stroud, like any other dad in that situation, would be stood very close with one eye on his boy ready to grab him if need be.

I can understand it if it was an adult obviously but that’s not the case here.

Hope you get it sorted Stroud.

Thank you for all your messages was a bit nervous putting myself out there and yes that was me unfortunately who was put in a headlock in front of my son.

I have drafted a email to the club just can't believe how much my club has changed I know times changed but it all felt so different many years ago when you could have banter with stewards and you were treated like supporters

I know grounds have improved immensely since the eighties and nineties but do you feel like a supporter of your club anymore

Again if it's a health and safety aspect why do the club sell season tickets to children in that part of the ground and I can honestly say in ten years my son has neve been hurt or scared standing amongst the singers and case in point against hull when we scored the winner I quickly grabbed him and made sure he was safely stood next to a steward so he was out of harms way while chaos ensued around us and isn't it a parents choice on where we let our children stand.

I know parents may disagree but to see his face light up when he's starting frankies in the building and everyone joins in is just memories you can't replace

The amount of kids you see in the singing section, it's fantastic. Totally with you there.

I didn't start going til the early 00s and it's even changed since then, such a shame. I feel like a walking wallet at AG, the club looking to squeeze as much out of me as they can.

Surely the Club must have said why in this 2 hour meeting?

Whilst frustrating...unfortunately the world we live in now is dictated by H&S.

Clubs have guidelines they have to abide by.

If your child was to fall from the seat he was standing on and break his neck, the Club would be responsible if they had agreed for you to continue doing this.

Or if he was to fall and injure someone else...etc.

I know it sounds overboard...but that's the nature of H&S these days. Very little common sense is used...and there is always someone that will sue if something goes wrong.

Hi spudski totally agree with your views and even though I have agreed with the club that he will no longer stand on the seats there still inforcing the rule that he sits at the front.

Not sure how old you are but can you remember sitting on the wall in the old enclosure can you imagine the club letting you do that now

There used to be a lad that stood on a seat in front of me in the Williams Stand, there was no real problem for those around us as ultimately we could see the game

One passionate fixture, City scored and lots of people were leaping about, this lads seat flipped upright and he fell into it, trapping his leg and also bashing his face. I can fully empathise why the club don' wwant people stood on seats especially in the singing area as have seen YouTube videos of bodies falling down stairs following a goal, so believe it is really in your lads interests to be safe, especially with the claim culture nowadays.

To me it's either stay seated or move to a quiter area where it's much safer

I feel for you mate...but it is what it is these days, not just at football, but all walks of life.

We basically have to be subservient and do as we're told, or face the consequences.

There are so many things at football that don't seem right and are hypocritical.

Your lad standing on a seat is nothing compared to how many fans are let in absolutely steaming. Which is illegal with the terms of entry...but hey...you can make money selling more beer. ;-)

It would be interesting to see how it would pan out, if a fan got drunk and caused a problem, purely from the alcohol consumed and sold inside the ground.

I never sat on the wall of the old enclosure...grew up standing in the Williams...squashed like a sardine on many occasions.

Good times ;-)

As a side note...do the Club offer disability seating for non physical disability? Perhaps with your anxiousness this could solve a problem?
