As a side note the Bristol City fans were probably the most obnoxious I’ve seen at City this season. Loads of United jibes at us and “where were you when you were shit” chants, which I suppose a lot sing, but considering they’ve not taken 8,000 away ever it’s ironic.

This isn’t a surprise I’ve met a handful of “Bristol City” fans before and every single one has told me United are their second team.

Hopefully we crush them 2nd leg with a first team.

Another Man City fan in peace!

To be honest the atmosphere has been a problem since the day we moved into the Etihad. The lack of it certainly wasn't because "we expected to win 5-0", most of us still remember all to well City in the 2nd division (it wasn't that long ago) and therefore still expect pending doom at every corner. Personally, I still expect us to f*k up winning the league-we usually find a way! You will probably find us a lot more vocal at yours in a fortnight.

As for the empty seats, as others have said, it's just the financial burden of being in 4 competitions. United season ticket holders are forced to buy tickets for home cup competitions along with their season ticket commitment . Also, we have recently expanded the capacity from 44000 to 54000, whilst it sells out in prem games this does leave gaps when we play in lower competitions. 10 years ago most of us would have given our right arm for a trip to Wembley, these days you find a lot of blues picking and choosing.

All that said, I take nothing away from your support last night-you really were loud and proud. I think 8000 is the most anybody has ever brought to the Etihad.

They may be right. I can remember taking 10,000 away to a cup game. Also remember taking 17,000+ away to a league game. But until last night not sure that I remember taking 8,000 anywhere. I'm sure somebody on here can put me straight though.

How many went to Anfield?

17,000 to a away game? Where was that then?

Oh dear. Ended up with Aguero, Walker, Sterling, Stones, DeBruyne and Sane in the pitch and they are trying to pretend that is some kind if reserve team?

our entire SQUAD cost less than any ONE of their players and we had them rattled. Prem football is now so sanitised that singing “ you’re just a s&@t Man Utd” at them has them reaching for their handbags. Diddums.

I’ve a lot of time for Man City fans. A couple of mates are long-time fans and they really are a team that has been through the mill over the last 30 years, had to put up with their rivals winning trophies whilst they laboured in the lower divisions and, until recently, have had to put up with supporting a team with a terrible skill at self-sabotage. Incidentally the Eddie Large story is maybe my favourite football anecdote of all time:

http://www.citytilidie.com/latest/bournemouth-home-198889/z

There obviously valid ethical concerns about how Sheikh Mansour gets and sustains his fortune but I do see Man City as a club with supporters who really understand the joy and despair of supporting a team that is not winning week in, week out and I’d much rather they won trophies than teams like Man Utd or Liverpool whose fans have an assumption that they deserve every trophy going on reputation alone.

To be fair, it is just one fan. The other fans seem to be pretty decent.

Those reviews on last night were spot on. A lot of the players are much better than that I will say. Stones has been great up until the last two games, as has gundogan and Sterling up until last night.

Mangala should never play again unless it’s a dead rubber, he puts us under needless pressure.

Bravo is a bit of a funny one for me, I agree with Carragher that his distribution isn’t that great, it’s just he’s got balls of steel so is willing to play it out the Pep way. Good pass for De Bruyne but he’s nowhere near Ederson in any department (maybe other than penalty shoot outs which he seems to be a specialist at).

I don't know if you know about it but they bought our star striker Matty Taylor for £300k (we got him on a free). Basically we had just had 2 promotions and were doing well last season. Matty Taylor and Lee Johnson have the same agents and they found out about a £300k release clause in his contract and waited until the last day of the window to poach him from us. As much to stop us from progressing as them wanting him. They then paraded the signing over facebook with a facebook live on their social media pages with Matty Taylor - #WelcomeToBristol splashed everywhere and their coaches goading us on social media about it.

The club and their fanbase is so lacking in class off the pitch. Credit where it is due on it at the moment though.

Given we nicked that idea off what Man City did with Tevez, I suspect Man City fans may be amused rather than outraged...

My dad and uncle went to that game (I wasn’t born) and they always tell me that there were close to 20k City fans there...maybe more. I think I’m right in saying we filled the away end, took a huge proportion of the home, and still had thousands locked out the ground who couldn’t get in.

Didn’t someone once point out that this game still holds the record for an away support?

im sure many on here were at that game.

From someone called Purplenose on the Bluemoon forum:

There really are some smacked arses on here. If I were just reading this board and didnt watch the game I would be under the impression that we were awful and were lucky to not have taken a hiding.

It was a cracking game of football, Bristol turned in a performance that not so long ago we would have been delighted with. Credit where its due to them, and I must admit to feeling a tad sorry for them conceding a winner so late having to a man run their bollocks off and defended fantastically well.

Lets have it right though City deserved the win, yes wasteful finishing and the considerable effort made by Alty Taylor probably did much to keep the tie alive despite Bristols fine efforts.

The shit being given out to some of our players is truly inexplicable. Clearly Yaya is finished and its hard to see Mangala cutting it..that said he has put in some decent shifts recently. The defence today would have kept a clean sheet were it not for a brainless tackle that would have had a Sunday manager at Hough end going ape and that was Stones. He probably needed these cup games before Liverpool and hopefully the couple of bollock drops are now out of his system.

Whats the moanfest about Sane. I thought Bristol defended well against him, closed him down quickly in numbers and blocked alot of his passes or shots. Sane is still a young pleayer with much to learn...he learned some of it tonight, but to say he was shit tonight is absolute nonsense.

Bernado seems to be taking flak, again a young player who probably hasnt come up against the kind of opposition he faced tonight. He didnt do bad tonight and his cross for the winner shows what he can do, again a player who may well take alot from this evening.

Gundogan might not have hit the highs he has reached in the past but the injuries have been a major inteference, he was frustrating tonight but hardly the donkey that some are making out.

As for Bravo, he did nothing wrong tonight and like a few have said has played very well when called upon this season.

Just maybe the manager who is desperately trying to do the near impossible and winning all that we are in for picked a team good enough to make sure we go both into the second leg and Anfield in the best shape to remain unbeaten in the League and secure a Wembley Cup Final over the next couple of weeks and should be trusted a little more by some of this parish!

Hard to believe that we just won a first leg of a semi final and as a result will go to the second leg with the advantage despite being away and people are moaning as if we had just dropped points in a relegation battle.

Pep knows the team are still learning, he knows that players must come in to keep improving the team and squad and I am sure he will be bringing those players in when he is able to and feels it is appropriate to do so.

Well done blues and well done Bristol for making a great contest of it.”

It’s a great post by this fan, agree Man C shouldn’t over react about their players.

The difference is though, their young players cost millions, which creates huge expectation, whereas ours come through the academy (for the most part) so are granted a bit more time.

Yes. Crowd was something like 37000 and about half was City. The motorway was like a Wembley day: literally red and white everywhere on the way up. If I remember right it was pay at the turnstile, so City fans were going in everywhere and there was no specific ‘away attendance’ figure like you get today.

Bear in mind we had something like 40000 in the Gate for the Liverpool game the week before: the official attendance was less but 1000s climbed in the back of the east end.

Just what I was told. Maybe over the years, rose-tinted glasses / Chinese whispers have worked their magic!

Am I right about the record though?

Well I was there with an estimated 18,000 City fans but never heard of great numbers being locked out. In the days of terracing and no health and safety rules, everyone just breathed in as more fans were let in. I think that everyone who turned up to watch the game got to see a most amazing game. No idea if it was a record but it was an epic occasion.

3 nice contributors fair play but that doesn' disguise the fact their support was piss poor and they appear not the club I thought they were.

Is a semi final beneath them now?

With them still very much in 4 competitions I can sort of understand it . In the League you'd have your ST, but if it were me and I had a strict budget I'd choose the Champions League games and may have to miss the FA Cup and League Cup if I had to miss any. I remember the old First division days and we suffered the same with certain games when the gates would drop off for the lesser games.

Spoke to a few Man Citeh and they came across well , as they have on social media. Not all Billy big bollox like their neighbours. And we know our place can be quite at times.
That said it was quieter than I'd expected,  one thing I wouldn't like a seat below away fans like (I think) @El Gringo +  I bet that can be interesting with donations of different sort coming from above !

I think there were fans locked out , kick off delayed I was on the fencing at back of away end I could see them locking gates as game kicked off and fans running around outside to get to other parts of ground officially away following of 15k but I’m sure that was nearer 18k tremendous support

I think on second leg there will be loads of fans trying to get tickets , pubs around ground will be packed as will the streets this is what football is all about THE PASSION

Would be good if the fans could organise one of those welcome parties for our team coach when it arrives..

Would fire the players up immediately. Perhaps easier said than done to arrange in chilly January of course!
