Utterly horrific tonight! Avoid M32 / centre / Hippodrome if at all possible.

1 hr 20 from Yate so far!

Anyone know if there’s a reason? Same route I always take - usually parked up ages ago.

I went from CH. ring road and up bath rd, took less than an a hour.

A couple of questions for @JulieH Why was the right turn from the trading estate including Avonline onto Winterstoke road blocked? This forced club minibuses to turn left and having to fight its way back putting 20 odd minutes onto the journey and adding to the traffic

 Just seemed unnecessary!

Winterstoke road seems to flow really well but traffic builds up to the Cumberland basin, could the timing of the traffic lights be changed for match times?

Also @JulieH - why were Manchester coaches parked outside the Hippodrome?  This meant two lanes became one, creating a huge and avoidable bottleneck right in the very centre of the city, at the busiest time of day.

I travel from Yate as I pick up my Dad - for midweek evening games, it reliably takes around 50 minutes door-to-door (we park around Cumberland Basin).  Last night, it took 1 hour 40 minutes and the vast majority of this delay was due solely to the congestion around the Hippodrome (it took 50 minutes from Primark to Hippodrome).  Fortunately we still made it in time.

Can you please explain what was going on here and whether we should expect a repeat scenario in the future?

A large number of Man City fans used a pub on the city centre which was privately booked for them.

coaches dropped off at that location from 3pm and parked elsewhere, returning at 6.15 to be escorted to the ground at approx 6.30 .

There were approx 8-10 coaches in total which parked on the near side lane of the centre for approx 10 mins.

at the same time the team coach were escorted around the centre .

this was planned to happen at different times however the team coach left late and therefore additional problems occurred.

having spent 3 hours at this location yesterday from 3pm the traffic throughout the afternoon was extremely busy even prior to these coaches arriving at 6pm

they had left by 6.30-6.45, and traffic did continue to flow , albeit slowly.

It is not something that will be a regular occurance .

i can only apologise if your journey was lengthened and will feed back to the command team for future consideration.

I will have a look at this.

whether it was a knock on effect of the positioning of the road closure signs I don’t know.

I will speak to the traffic management team and find out .

We are able to change the sequence of the traffic lights and it is something that has been discussed between traffic management from the council and club officials. Discussions I am sure will continue around how best to manage that

Thanks Julie, it has only happened for the two big games, United and yesterday. Makes it worse though as the traffic was worse! The minibus does shuttle runs picking up elderly and disabled fans and dropping them off at the ground. Not many runs last night because of this added complication.

At the roundabout by Sainsbury's  coming from Ashton gate way I saw a lady do a u-turn and go the wrong way onto the round about while it was packed to get in the lane to turn left at the robins rather than wait and go round it :noexp:

@JulieH - if you have disabled parking in the club car park (back of Lansdown / Atyeo), and you arrive at either Winterstoke Road / Duckmoor Road end of Marsh Road / Ashton Road after the 17:30 road closure (or if any other games where road closures are brought into play), how are you meant to get to your parking space.  Police had parked a truck across the entrance to Marsh Road, and I was told (policeman radio’d a colleague at the other end)I wouldn’t be allowed to access via Duckmoor Road either.  Therefore I couldn’t get to my parking space last night.  Just wondering what the process is meant to be?

Post match at Man City they had people with radios at what I can only assume were control boxes manually turning traffic lights to keep the flow of Traffic moving.

I appreciate that is post match but the complete imbalance of traffic flow to the light priorities across the junction of Winterstoke and the industrial estate grinds all roads to a halt pre match. It backs up to the Portway and up to Abbots Leigh Road.

Can similar not be done to prioritise flow into Winterstoke road from the west and those joining out of Marsh Road / Ashton Vale road be delayed / held back?

I am told There  should be club stewards on the road closures , and as long as there is some form of clarification of your space then they should let you in.

Many problems then please pm e mail address and I am sure we can ensure the system works as it should

Thanks Julie

And some on here have been moaning about a Police officer being allowed (in her official capacity) to post on the forum.

Hadn't realised Bedminster CC wouldn't be open for parking so was frantically trying to find somewhere before eventually getting parked just after 7pm. Coming from junction 19 of the M5 was hell. 25 minutes to do a mile.

The CC was open, but probably filled up pretty quickly. We got a parking spot at around 3:45 and by 4:30 I think they were already full.

Thanks for the reply Julie. I’m amazed that 10 coaches were permitted to park on a road in the middle of a city during rush hour to collect people from a pub, even if it was only for 10 minutes.

Hopefully not again!

Yesterday was the worst I have ever seen it. There was traffic in places where I have never ever seen traffic on a match day.

Imo a trail should be done to close Bridge Valley Road on a matchday. It took me 2 hours to get over the downs last night.

Bridge valley road should never of been re-opened imo , causes nothing but misery to anyone having to use the Portway whether its match-day or not

Totally agree. So much time is wasted by the lights always changing. If there was just a constant flow of traffic it would not be as bad as it does get.
