screech
Spectacular live stream of the rockets launch tonight. Elon Musk and his team are truly pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved without throwing endless money at it. The two booster rockets simultaneously landing was very cool, as was releasing his Tesla complete with Bowie on loop.
Fiale
watched the full thing, so much more fun than the usual Nasa missions. The whole way it was done was just exciting. goto -3.16 for launch
Erithacus
The Space Race was exciting whilst the Russians were competing, but once the impossible became routine the TV audiences went elsewhere (as Apollo 13 illustrated, until the mission went catastrophically bad). NASA became less mainstream and more for the geeky types. Skylab and the ISS were good, but don't get the cashflow racing. Fast forward to today and a non-government funded project has perhaps reignited (!) the passions. Is space cool again? The simultaneous booster landings are making a spectacular point - and a reality that was pure science fantasy for over a century. Can Elon actually go where no G-man has gone before? Has he found the magic elixir of science, engineering, publicity and showmanship that will propel mankind further into the depths of space? It would be a fantastic achievement if he does. A cherry red roadtster will be orbiting a planet for millions maybe billions of years it's mind bending. We could be extinct all long dead and all that remains is a car, playing space oddity / Odyssey on it's radio and a space suit with a towel in the glove compartment - but yeah, hope this is the start of something big, we really got in a rut, Space is back on the menu boyz. Gazred
Really think Musk will write himself into the history books as a founding father of commercial space travel. Seems they are way ahead of NASA in terms of performance and cost. Im blown away everytime you see one of his rockets land again. Those two boosters peeling away then landing similtaniously just looked brilliant.
Erithacus
If the moon landing conspiracists were loud before, that booster landing will have them frothing at the mouths. Progress is unfathomably profound. I'm just waiting for Dickie Branson to stick his two penn'orth in.
