The Bristol City v Sunderland Match Day Thread 31

Recommended Posts

Sorry but that's just pathetic. Beaten by Bolton and now shipping 3 to a dreadful Sunderland side with the game in the bag at half time. 1pt from 6 against the bottom sides, simply not good enough.

In the context of Derby, Fulham & Preston all drawing (and Cardiff last night), this will feel like a defeat.

I suggest no day off, in for training tomorrow and work these buggers til they drop (not sure what they did in Dubai...it obviously wasn't the session called game management or seeing a game out), those old habits of being in control and then ceding all control have returned.

Honestly, it's pretty gutting to draw that particularly given how in control we were. But they've been very lucky today, give them credit for not giving up, but they have been lucky. We had plenty of chances to go 4 up and 4-1 up and 4-2 up. They rarely looked like scoring bar a worldly from FF. They've needed two own goals to get the result. We looked uncharacteristically poor from set pieces/crosses but overall were the better team. It hasn't come off but on another day that same performance results in a rout. It's easy to overreact in the immediate aftermath of losing a three goal lead because it feels like a terrible defeat.

Whatever makes you sleep tonight but I assure you we missed those chances and it was not luck that made us draw, it was the players. You could see at 3-1 the heads went down for a lot of players and we lost all motivation at 3-2, at that point we'd practically accepted what was going to happen. That is NOT what strong-minded players do, that is the key difference between a team that will go up and a team that will not.

Michelle Owen saying on twitter we should have had a pen when it was 3-2? Something about Pats getting pulled back.

First I've heard about it.

He's right, but Patto didn't go down, he was trying to keep the chance alive so he stayed on his feet, then we don;t get a pen because unless you go down refs just won't give anything.

Look at the positives can we.

We are now just 3 points from being safe from relegation. That’s just one win or, more likely, three scratchy draws. Even the most pesemistic City fan would admit we can’t **** it up from here.

Happy days.

BREAKING: Bristol City receive 15 point sanction from the Football Association because an old, fat man in a suit felt like it.

We need to be brutal and not sit back.....keep you g forward with the intent to score.....make amends for our drubbing against Villa.

Didn't see that coming.....a point gained rather than 3 lost.......team around us didn't capitalise on it......not happy but willing to let it go.....we need to find a killer instinct or we will never make it to the top tier.

Let's go again.....COYRs

It was nothing like that. Their goal came out of nothing and we were immediately back in control of the game. Heads did not drop at that point and trying to compare this to performances last season is ridiculous. When they got the second then you could see some worried looks because they were in the game without doing anything. Then the momentum shifted as you would expect having given themselves a chance but even then we created more chances to put it to bed.

It was Kent who was through and his shirt was pulled and he didn't go down. i don't like simulation, but sometimes you have to make the ref see what has happened.

Can't blame Kent, yes he made a few bad calls but he also created way more than almost anyone. At 3-0 up we were already out of sight, the real issue came from the lads bottling it under pressure and that's the difference between a promotion team and a team who won't go up, we're clearly the latter.

Kent was incredibly wasteful in the 2nd half, his crossing and his passing was poor and should have scored 2 goals.

Those lads should be pulled in and taken to Southmead hospital to be shown what’s it like to do the ******* job at all time’s, not just when they feel like it.

Absolutely fuming this evening

Agree. I don't mind losing, but losing with what looked like minimal effort against the worst team in the division can't be accepted so easily. Pathetic.

EDIT: we didn't even ******* lose!!!!!

It was Paterson was through in the box and running for the ball, the keeper got there first but Paterson was pulled back and slowed down.

Last season when we were in serious danger of relegation we had this ridiculous way of playing against teams with wingers where we would just literally leave them.

The amount of goals we conceded where either the left or right back would drift inside leaving their winger free was unbelievable.

We actually haven’t done that a lot this season which has cut out a lot of those goals but we have let this creep back in the last few games for some reason. Why do we do this?
