Feel for Flint..?

Anybody else feel a bit for him in that he had his chance to make it to the Premiership during the transfer window? Fair play to the chap, he has more than given his all for us since his on off move to Birmingham and for me therefore deserves it.

I've been following City for a few decades and been a ST holder for most of that so don't jump on me, but whilst we are gradually getting better we don't quite yet have the quality in depth to reach the promised land just yet, lets just hope we get there in a few years.

I sincerely hope Flinty is around for a while yet, but as much as I would miss him, it's only right as a footballer that he wants to reach that pinnacle, and quite rightly, he won't wait forever!

Know what? I think I do.

I’ve not always been his greatest fan but he puts his heart and soul into it. Week in, week out. Leaves nothing out there.

Even taking time to clap during a minutes clapping. The bloke is a credit to himself.

Sadly I’m starting to think that second place or even top six might be slipping through our fingers.

We should have strengthened properly in January. We didn’t and despite talk of injuries and those injured returning, or talk of Baker being out for other reasons we knew all of that and didn’t invest.

We kept hold of the likes of AF and others who were rumoured to have attracted interest but needed to do more. Much more.

Thing is if the view is we aren’t ready for the PL and that’s why we didn’t invest we’ll have to do bloody well to hold on to the likes of AF and the others if they’re going to stick around.

I don’t think I’d blame him if he decided it was the right time for HIM to move on.

Not really. If he’s good enough that a PL club is willing to match our valuation then he will leave with our blessing. Until that time comes then he has a decent contract here (which by the sounds of it we would be keen to improve should he wish). If not then he’s free to go wherever he likes once it’s up.

It’s not like we were inundated with very fair offers which we rejected out of spite.

Yeah so assuming that's the only one, how exactly did we prevent him taking his chance? If they don't meet his valuation we're not going to let him go.

Players are under contract so we don't owe them the chance to make the step up the detriment of our chances.

He has to take his share of the blame for that collapse on Saturday. Both central defenders. Weak.

Don’t think you can be too critical of two own goals. They weren’t individual errors, just terribly bad luck.

You defend from the front and we didn’t do that second half on Saturday.

Own goals or not you could see them coming. Everbody knew at 3-2 we wouldn't win the game. Not just blaming him mind but we need stronger players who can handle pressure.

I do.

He makes it look easy in whatever position. Awesome defender and an amazingly competent attacker. May not be world class and has a few limitations but as a complete footballer as we’ll ever get.

I think he’s ripping his hair out at our specialist forwards not being able to match his attacking positional sense, finishing abilities and all-round 110% commitment to the cause. It’s beginning to show too - but that’s understandable.

He’ll be gone in the Summer. After 50 plus years of watching City he can have the accolade of my favourite player ever - a rare combination of skills and top, top attitude.

Bravo Flinty a real winner and just goes to show you don’t need to be a ‘pampered pet’ academy product to have the skills and mental abilities to get to the top. I’ll enjoy the last couple of months of him in a City shirt while I can, just a pity his team mates can’t match his application otherwise we’d be strolling to the Premiership.

Fair point, I forgot about that bid.

I hope he gets the opportunity he deserves and it is with City. If someone makes a big offer in the summer he will leave with my thanks for his efforts for the club (unless he scores against us in future).

I suspect he does, whether justified or not.

I've read just about every thread picking apart the Sunderland game with posters not holding back in apportioning blame left, right, and centre.

However, unless I've missed a comment or two, I've only seen Flint directly criticised by you, and on several occasions.

Most have said he was one of only a few who should escape direct criticism as he had a good game overall.

I thought he played his part well, dominant in the air and solid on the ground.

So, I'll ask you again, what exactly about Flint's personal performance on Saturday disappointed you to the extent you feel the need to criticise him on numerous posts?

Agree totally. I’m probably harder on Flint than most because he plays CB (like I did far less well).

I would say he had a very good game on Saturday. Without going into the leadership / captaincy debate the only thing you might consider if whether he could’ve influenced those around him....but if I say that I could ask the same of everyone else too.

I certainly wasn’t there on Saturday thinking bloody hell Aden what were you doing.

The only goal you could consider him to be involved with was the Cattermole header. But someone lost their runner and it was a beautiful cross to miss him out.

I have yet to see a report on his goal in Saturday's match that mentions the manner in which, as a central defender, he beat the defensive wall; took the ball out of the air; rounded the keeper before scoring City's opening goal - imagine if that had been FD or LD.

Given his hard labouring background (asphalt road layer), that is probably the precise reason he gives 100%, knowing and appreciating fully just what he has attained.

How can you ever feel sorry for a man earning what he does doing a job many of us would give our eye teeth to do.

I am in a minority opinion,I accept,  believing he is too slow for Premiership.

Hope Zak will be the centre back when we gain promotion.

Guess Flint will leave in the summer and we can reinvest that money wisely.  Could be a real bonus for the club.  P.S. Believe he will leave

Him and Wright are the experienced ones who should be organising that defence, we saw none of that on Saturday when the going got tough and have seen on a few occasions. I'm not saying him and Wright aren't decent defenders but think they are mentally weak.

There have been many games this season where Flint absolutely stood out, I couldn't say the same about Wright though, for me, Flint should be our Captain - he might have flaws in a game but never gives less than 100% and always leads by example..
