This is pretty interesting and good to hear!

Looks like we'll be pinching some Gwent youngsters in the future.

Its not a  true football academy as it will not play in the academy system. Similar exists in Bristol.

What is a football academy?

The football academy in the link is not part of the EPPP and its academy system. They will offer specialised football training but will unlikely be able to play v BCFC, Cardiff, BRFC academies ... They look to be more of a development centre, the level below academy status.

Academies don't just play other academies, they play friendlies against local sides too

I used the word unlikely. Most academies will not play games v local sides. The disparity in technical and physical ability often is often too vast to make the matches have value. It is part of the ideals behind the academy system.

There are the odd exceptions, Bristol Inner City development centre play v academy XI's to a degree but often its v a few from the academy and trialists.

Depends what age you're talking about younger age groups will definitely play local sides as it's more game time for the kids and in theory lower standard of opposition so that they can practice the things they want to. When they're older some academies have an U19's team say which is for players not involved in U18's squad and those still of age not good enough for U23's but they still want around. Some of these teams play local leagues or will play local friendlies.

The EPPP for academies is nine to sixteen. The link was players six to fourteen.
