  2. Well, that is a bit like football. No matter how talented the player is though, goals only ever come from defensive mistakes (not necessarily mistakes made by defenders). A high-tempo game in both sports is more likely to produce those mistakes and be more attractive to the spectators.
  3. Trouble is we all know there will be a massive outcry for more appeals if after a team uses one which isn’t “successful “ they have a much stronger case potentially for a decision but it cannot be looked at as the opportunity has been used up. In cricket the teams accept the final decision as in rugby but obviously in football they don’t. I agree the communication could be better and time taken out of the game .
  4. Just announced Chris Billam-Smith to have a rematch against Richard Riakporhe on June 15th at Selhurst Park, to be shown on Sky
  5. I've long said that it's the Laws that are the issue. VAR just exposes those issues. It's an objective tool that is layered on top of subjective Laws, and it doesn't fit. The Laws haven't been rewritten to accommodate a game where VAR exists. Until they are there will be a chance of VAR getting the flak when it's just imposing the Law to the letter.
  6. I’m sorry, am I reading this correctly? The Technical Director has appeared on a podcast hosted by.. Tony Wilkins?! That is such a Bristol Rovers move that my little brain can’t even comprehend it.
  7. Oh I don't know, I'll have a word and see if we can fit you in sometime.
  8. Good ol Jon! I know it’s a delicate balancing act with supply and demand and income for the club, but the amount of gaps in the Lansdown particularly, tells me they’re priced too high. Could find even more gaps appearing there once potd people start moving to the SS..
  9. No I wasn't criticising you. I was apologising doubly. It's a cold brittle word, but sometimes it's actually better to use the language that the industry uses. We all know that no one is belittling the death off Mr. Sala (not this side of the Severn anyway).
  10. City used to play friendlies (H&A) against Bristol's twins Hannover and Bordeaux. When McInnes took over we had a pre season tour of Scotland. Then again as a reward for we fans, as it's July why not Las Palmas away?
  11. Today
  12. I’ll set ‘em up, you knock ‘em down….

  14. He did, after reffing the World Cup final, he said the online abuse was too much He's now a full time lawyer in London
  15. It was the icing on the cake of a great season: a memorable night! Three massive points for Leeds.
  16. It's not even that really. It's that they didn't have the 10 year licence (not technically the same as a lease) in place by 1 March. They have it now (albeit conditional), but it came 27 days late. EFL and NL are technically enforcing their rules and regulations by the letter. The legal challenge is now two part (in brief): 1. to show that those rules and regulations are not compatible with the Competition Act 1998 (and related EU legislation); and 2. to show that the EFL cannot force the NL to run it's own play off competition in a certain manner. Worth saying that Gateshead have been aware of the requirement to have a 10 year secured tenure for at least two years, and have been in dialogue with the EFL for both of those years on this subject. As unfair as this may seem, and as stupid as the rules might look, Gateshead were well aware of the danger.
  17. Please grin on. O general spin. It is the signal opener yet no real openings before his lager pension and grannie slope.
  18. We didn’t spend a lot of money on him , but I was always bemused by the case of Jim Harvey, a very good midfield player who we signed in 1987 and who only played three times for us. I remember him saying at the time that he couldn’t understand why Terry Cooper signed him if he didn’t think he was any good. There was also the strange case of Laurie Pearson, a left back who we signed from Hull in the summer transfer window of 1987, and then swapped for Russell Bromage before the season even started.
  19. As a generalisation, Rick, every kind of competitive game that a child plays puts them in the shop window for (especially) local football club scouts who are looking for recruits to their Academies. I may be wrong but i believe that children can, and do, play in the JPL on a Saturday and then their Club team on a Sunday.
  20. Walking On The Moon...The Police
  21. The National League joined the Premier League last night in expressing concerns over the introduction of a football regulator. The Football Governance Bill will be debated in the House of Commons today as it receives its Second Reading.
  22. A year ago today, seems so far away now
  23. Worse than that, it says he’s methods are ‘very unique’. Things are either unique or they aren’t. They can’t be very unique. The club should be very wary!
  24. Yesterday
  25. Aberdeen would give him a glowing reference, 2 points out of 24 in the league..
  26. Lovely wasn’t it, no need to be buggering off abroad to soak up the rays
  27. The National league seem to agree with the decision to dump replays . https://twitter.com/MattHughesDM/status/1782429396046938457
  28. Didn't he go on holiday instead of taking pre-season ?
