  3. I see the BP do have a sense of humour after all . . .. here are five possible objections some would say are typical of Bristol, which some have dubbed the biggest village in the UK, or "Lymeswold-on-Avon". 1"I wanted a Sainsbury's. I saw a recipe for a spiced meringue Christmas wreath on their website and I want to be able to get all the ingredients in one place." 2 "When I lie on my back in Ashton Court on a summer's day, I like to be able to see the houses of Knowle West. The giant new Williams Stand will block the view." 3 "I run a solar-powered knitting group in Greville Smyth Park. We will have to move over towards the Cumberland Basin or the bigger stadium will put us in shadow, and I do so hate the sound of passing lorries." 4 "I note from the planning application that there is no provision for allotments along the side of the pitch. Please amend." 5 "This new stadium will put us on a par with other English cities, and signal a desire for progress. This cannot be allowed."

  4. Don't get me wrong India have some fantastic players and their support is fanatical bordering lunatic fringe but is first class. I just think the powers that be within India have far too much power and seem to dictate how they want the modern game played.

  6. As traitorous as it sounds I like Australia and was rooting for them in their recent ODI series with India (simply because I don't like India) but hopefully we'll beat them with relative ease in their own backyard maybe 2 or 3-0. Their bowling attack is half decent but their batting line-up is questionable. Watching the interviews on Sky Sports with the Aussie players made me laugh they way they are so arrogant and it would be nice to ram it straight down there media outlets throats who clearly have tried and failed to get to Broady. 7. Cant wait and confident England will show who the better team is,think it will be a close series though but like in the last series when it comes to the crunch and that little bit extra is needed we seem to pull it off, work nights so will have a close eye on it!!

  8. In planning There is a rule. Nobody has a right to light It is a shame, a couple of SELFISH people have stopped Ashton Vale (I hope their Grandchildren remember them for what they have achieved with their SELFISHNESS, for there futures.) They will get the 43 acre site, but it will be full of weeds and them (An ugly sight) But they do not realise in about 10 years time, there will be houses built there! (SL will make his money that way instead) And they will not have the pretty park land that SL said he would provide, with 2 Pond/ Lakes for wildlife and pretty walkways through woodland. (This is when the Law changes for the better.) And he would have managed and maintained it! A Major road will join the A38 with the A370 (Quarter of a mile long) Part of the Bristol Ring Road, and better access to Bristol Airport. They are living in Cuckoo land if they have not realised this already.

  9. Just a few extra random points I've thought of whilst reading this thread. - I thought the club wanted to put more executive boxes in at the back of the replacement East End, but it was the fans who turned their noses up and forced them out. - The rebuilt East End is going to have a couple more hundred seats than the Atyeo, and yet the roof height is going to be the same as the Dolman, which leads me to think that it's either going to be a steep gradient, or maybe they're leaving space for executive boxes in future? - All this talk of golf driving ranges reminded me about a thought I had a couple of years ago. With the Avon gorge being just up the road, couldn't the club create a false climbing wall on one of the stands to encourage stadium use on non-match days - surely it would be high enough for members to have a decent ascent?, or what about a built in zip slide from the top of one stand, across the pitch etc.. surely it wouldn't cost a lot, but could offer a nice little return? Imagine as an away fan having the chance to have a bit of adventure when you turn up early at a ground.

  11. That is very sporting of you!! Thank you. Likewise - if you would like a lift to the games, I usually go very early to be sure of my favourite parking space and to be ready for a quick getaway after the match. I think my email is on the link.

  12. public transport in the city is crap full stop, butting in a halt at ashton gate wouldn't solve this, When the portishead line is reopened (and it will be just a matter time) AG may not be included but that doesn't mean it will never be built, it would be one platform about 120m long and would cost about 50k max to install Signalling wouldn't have to change to much as theres already signals around the old halt site which are used by freight trains, I we as a club should be utilising is the park and ride areas near avonmouth and long ashton, they could use those car parks and put on extra buses to shuttle people in and out of the ground and if the club were savey about it, could included as an added option on the season ticket,

  13. As a club, we have rarely, if ever, made the most of what we've got. The facilities, resources, etc. Perhaps only 74-79, under AD. A boom time we failed to capitilise or build upon. Quite the opposite, in fact, as we know. A revamped AG will be more than adequate for us for the next 15- 20 years, to make a go of being a competitive, championship club. That must be the first goal. If we ever make the most of this, and end up outgrowing a 27, 000 capacity AG, and think, bugger, we could really do with another 5 or 6, 000 seats, and a hotel, and a McKFC, then something seriously RIGHT will have happened down there, we'll be so beside ourselves in disbelief and ecstasy, that we'll not care a hoot. Be too busy inducting another dozen legends into our hall of fame. If we ever get TOO BIG for a revamped AG, it'll be something to celebrate. Massively. Statues will be in commision, stonemasons will be smiling. Let's see if we can get anywhere near this before getting our kecks in a twist over missing out on a 21st century bowl, with all the banality that will probably entail. Just so long as the new AG's got a bit more legroom. And everyone can get in on time. What else can we fret and obsess over?

  14. If the chance to develop Ashton Vale is missed, City will always be limited as a club and would never be able to generate the revenue to stay in the Premiership if we ever managed to get there. In my opinion we would have a nice stadium for the Championship and maybe have the odd season in the Premiership (very big maybe!) The stadium is permanent but league positions are strictly temporary (I hope!). Arsenal had to move from Highbury because it only held 38000 people and they felt that they could not continue to compete with the likes of Manure with 76000 capacity. Sporting excellence is about ambition - I hope that the Landsowns have more than they are currently demonstrating. The Mayor was happy with housing on the AG site and would be happy keeping City on the site because both of those options feed The Tobacco Factory with paying punters. If the proposition is looked at objectively - the AG option is grossly inferior to AV. We are being legged over by vested interests, green loonies and a very small number of local nimbys. It stinks!

  15. Disagree. Compared to a brand new stadium this is a very poor alternative. That's why it was only proposed once it became apparent the new stadium may never happen. A revamped AG will never be able to generate the revenue a new stadium would have. On top of that, the new stadium was achitecturally different whereas the redeveloped ground is much more the like the 'souless bowl' we all fear. If we are forced to choose this distinctly second-best option it will be to the deteriment of the club and the city and, for me, will forever be a symbol of Bristol's antipathy towards sport and progress in general.
