  1. Pembo, take a bow son. 3 clean sheets in 4 league games 2 wins 1 draw and a defeat. Thank you.

  2. Good morning one and all from a soggy, overcast, typhoon ready Manila. On the 28th of November 1931 Bristol City lost to Charlton Athletic in a Division 2 fixture at Ashton Gate by two goals to one. Not until October 1965, 34 years later, did the club beat the Addicks again with a four to one victory at The Valley. The thirteen unlucky matches in the intervening years were all defeats. Quite possibly one of the longest running sequences in Football League history. One month earlier Stanley Baldwin had won a landslide election for the Conservatives in what has, to this day, been the last absolute majority to win power with 55% of the popular vote. Bizarrely Ramsey Macdonald remained Prime Minister in a National 'Unity' Government because King George V asked him to form such a coalition that would best be served to steward the country out of the Great Depression. An austere time for one and all. The next time we won in October 1965 Harold Wilson was the Prime Minister and was only the 2nd Labour leader to hold office in a 'govern alone' Labour government since Clement Attlee in 1945. Four years later though City recorded their biggest ever league victory over the Addicks in a six nil thumping at Ashton Gate. And I have spent the last hour trying to find a video highlight of that match and who scored but alas I have come up short. So wherever the family of Idwal Robling is hiding, the probable BBC commentator for HTV West Big Match that day, please make yourselves known so we can have a look at those 6 goals going in. But you could take a look at The Valley in 1969.. http://www.britishpathe.com/video/charlton-football-ground We can always hope there will be a complete reversal to this sort of scoreline today... Which of course was some sort of error or stunt! And for those who would like a bit of a read of the opposite fixture on Boxing Day here it is.. All in all City have a rather putrid record against Charlton Athletic winning roughly half of the matches that they have. I know this thread is more than overshadowed by the impending arrival of a new manager so i will start ending my opening of this thread on a positive note and simply say whomever this club appoints I for one will be getting right behind him and I am sure the vast majority of us will do the same. I would like to think it will be a most rewarding feeling if the club explains itself these past few weeks into the bargain. However, sanguinely, I am rummaging around for something better than a draw today but cannot find it which, I know, is really not going to help us stop the slide closer to the trap door; looking at the tally of 41 points we garnered in our last relegation battle we need to start picking them up rapidly whoever is in the hot seat. If its a Donald Duck character or a Messiah I will happily take route one to keep us in this division. Get yourself into that box Flinty. Lee Tomlin might just score today but it might not be enough. What a supreme effort for those going to South London today. Enjoy your day out and return home safe, sound and happy.

  3. Almost as bad as City fans trying big up a new manager who had no input other than being at the ground.

  4. I hope LJ does really well, but I could name to you now those who'll come out of the woodwork at his first defeat. Let's get behind him, eh?

  5. Stakeholders, synergy, professionalism. These are the sort of noises I make in work to try and disguise the lack of substance in what I've been asked to do. Delighted to hear Mr Ashton is no stranger to cow dung bingo! What a press release!

  6. What is strange is people trying to attach mystical powers to a manager who never picked the team, had nothing to do with tactics or substitutions, his work and his plaudits begin from Monday.

  7. Nothing to do with Lee, congratulation to Pembs and Wade!

  9. We missed the first 30 mins and the goal..heard it as we were running from the coach but hopefully we get a result here after the day we've had!

  10. Yet another plan. Someone spoke to a coach driver at the services earlier. He promised to drop his people at Gatwick and come back for us which he has done...fair play. He is nothing to do with City or anything. We have just boarded.not moving yet.

  11. This is absolutely disgusting. I'm fuming on your behalf. Just get a large taxi now and bill the club after - if they don't refund, I'm sure all of us at the OTIB world can help cover the cost.

  12. Because I'm a local I've just realised I can't chant "this place is a sh*thole I wanna go home" today.

  13. That's your opinion, but not most posters on here, he only signed this morning or afternoon and not officially taking over as manager until Monday, Pembs and Wade have started the comeback by changing the shape and tactics. Lee has had nothing to do with that and just by sitting in the stand imo doesn't make players play any better. Our players always try hard and today was no different.

  14. NO! Not trying to do down the new manager, just saying Lee had nothing to do with today's result, all down to Pembs and Wade.

  15. No, well done Pembo ( and Wade?) LJ starts on Monday.

  16. "Drink up thee Cider" Great to hear that reverberating around the Valley as the final whistle blew. 1-0 to City. Great 3 points.

  20. How times have changed...This woman is on her way to Charlton!

  21. Exactly, so why even mention it, thanks for sorting that out once and for all. Today should be a celebration of Pemberton and Elliott and not somebody sat in the stand not being able to believe his luck.

  22. LJ will have had nothing to do with todays result directly. But indirectly any managerial appointment would have had a psychological effect for sure.

  23. Or we could credit the players, who regardless of the person in charge, are the ones who actually won the game. in my opinion we give managers far to much credit/derision despite the fact they are pretty much just bystanders to the reason a team wins or loses

  24. Next saturday is now huge. Regardless of your feelings about LJ, we need to roar them on v Ipswich because this is a massive spell in our season!

  28. 1-0 up at HT and would take that at FT. Not the greatest of games so far but if we string a few moves together we will leave this very poor Charlton team behind. Come on City

  34. I live 20 minutes from the ground, have been waiting for this fixture all season. Charlton are a very poor team so I'm hoping for a comfortable two goal lead by half time and then finish them off good and proper in the second half. Stocked up on cider to celebrate if we do win today! COYR
