  1. Weather is a funny old thing you know. No sooner has the dust settled on the last match day thread, where I wanted to dwell a while for those poor souls in the Caribbean, and along comes Tropical Storm Lannie maybe soon Typhoon. As if the Pacific will not be outdone by the Atlantic storm season the activity in the Philippine Sea takes a decided turn for the worse. Weather is a funny old thing you know. I left work a little earlier than usual as the rain and wind had abated a tad and I saw an opportunity. Alas it lasted only a few minutes before I was swept up along one Manila street with a sudden gust and downpour. I took shelter and loitering around the lobby, of what I soon discovered was a hospital, I picked up a small leaflet. On the front was a circular logo in blue with a sort of cog surrounding the circle and a red and white quartered crest in the middle of it all. It looked a bit like the Rotary Club crest although I might be a mile away from that as an accurate comparison. Anyway, more to the point, the name of the crest instantly struck me because I had looked up a little about Wolverhampton Wanderers' history over lunch earlier in the day. When formed, in 1877, Wolves were called St Lukes after the local church. The name on that hospital crest?, St. Lukes. And had it not been for the dodgy weather I would likely, hopefully, never have set foot in that hospital. Weather. I hear it might be rather inclement this evening in the Birmingham environs so all you hardy souls making your way north I hope you avoid the worst of it or at least keep out of the wet. Molinueuuewweeuuuuxxujuu, I could never spell it, is a modern theatre of football so i hope it keeps you dry. Previous match day threads on Wolves I have talked about their history and their town and all that sort of trivia. Nevertheless here are a few bits and pieces about their past which rank as worthy of a smile or entry to my mind. In 1938, Wolves needed only to win the last game of the season to be champions for the first time, but were beaten 1–0 at Sunderland and Arsenal claimed the title. That must have been painful for the Wolves but I bet Sunderland were laughing like nuts and Arsenal somewhat grateful. As if that was not hilarious or heartbreaking enough they repeated it after the war and not even the magic of Stan Cullis, in his last ever match for Wolves, could stop it;- When league football resumed in 1946, Wolves suffered yet another heartbreaking failure in the First Division. Just as in 1938, victory in their last match of the season against title rivals Liverpool would have won the title but a 2–1 defeat gave the 1947 championship to the Merseyside club instead. Poor little blighters. And then, 2 years later, they missed out again on the title on goal difference. I guess you have to hand it to them though because with Billy Wright as captain and Cullis as manager they finally won their first of 3 titles in 1954. Wolves were, to be fair, the dominant force in English football in the 50's. I am not sure if Stan Cullis' 'kick and rush' football left a lasting legacy but it sure made an impression on European football at the time. Those that have researched this era of football can no doubt talk more about it. Wolves were pioneers in the style and the science of football and had super fit athletes of their day. According to the modern era fan Wolves play slick football under their Spanish (?) coach and many, on their forum, seem to have a respect for the way we play our game and that tonight will generally not be easy for them. Some pointing out that if City play the usual 'nice passing game' (is that fair or myth? I have no idea) then Wolves will win. I suppose that suggests that if City try a Millwall rear guard type of action a point or more might be on offer. I wonder how Lee will set up then. Enjoy the game folks and I hope we at least give a good account roared on by the usual vociferous City away support. St Lukes 1 City 1 .. fatal for me to make a prediction so I used a non sensical name for them.

  2. By god we looked awful defensively in that second half, however, and more importantly WOW, I don't think I've ever seen a Bristol City team work so damn hard for each other. They must be absolutely shattered. I'm not even worried about the defence as we've shown to be alot better than that ( no doubt tiredness played a part). **** hoping for mid table, we can achieve something alot more than that if we show the same grit and determination as that, we have the quality. Going to bed a very proud City fan tonight.

  5. 4 points from Reading and Wolves is a great effort from all concerned. Brave selection tonight by Johnson so love him or loathe him he had to be given the plaudits for that.

  8. I hope the players don't go into the match with the same defeatist attitude of many posters. We are not cannon fodder . We can win this . Who gave our reserves a chance against Premier League side Watford ? We must battle all the way against every team in this tough league but we can beat anyone , anywhere. Now City , prove me right .

  9. Blimey - having a nose at their forum - They've got all Billy Big B*****+**x syndrome suddenly , because some Chinese bloke is splashing the cash A lot seem to think it was a travesty they didn't win by 8 or 9 bell ends

  10. Has somebody told them they're crap then? We obviously know it but maybe he shouldn't have told the players! 'Expectation' for them is a roof over the away end or a replacement pasty hut I should think. Expectation levels my arse!

  12. What a fantastic game of football. Wolves were excellent and will be disappointed not to have won but we more than matched them though. Well done lads . Happy with the effort and we've still got some more to come .

  13. Be fair, A lot of their fans were probably doing a scouting mission on Man Utd's televised game, ready for when they play them in 2-3 years time.

  15. Got to say fair play to LJ & the coaching staff; that took a lot of bollocks with that line up and it has paid off. I'm telling you now, not many teams will anything at Molineux this season. Well done to everyone involved.

  17. This game very much like Reading were playing a better team on their patch. Got 3 points Saturday and drawing at half time, we have been a little fortunate at times but bollocks, you make your own luck. We may well lose tonight but we're looking a stronger outfit than last season. Coyr.

  19. A great battling performance unbeaten in 3 tough games + 5 points, LJ can be rightly proud. Fielding 7 didn't do much wrong. Wright 6 was ok. Flint 9 just immense again. MOM. Baker 7 looks a better player than the one we had on loan. Bryan 6 he played well but was caught out a few times defensively. ODowda 7 first 20 minutes I thought here we go again but then settled in and played well for the rest of the game. Brownhill 6 played well but sometimes far too casual in dangerous positions. Smith 7 another terrific game, 2 bad mistakes but always available and willing to have the ball. Leko 7 for his 1st half performance, always a threat, ran out of steam in the 2nd. Reid 6 his fitness and enthusiasm is terrific and always a threat tonight his passing radar was poor. Diedhiou 6 not quite working for him but to be fair he never hides and tonight there were a few glimpses of what he can do. LJ 9 again his tactics were once more perfect and his substitutions spot on, I think we miss Pisano and a back 4 and he has work to do on defending set pieces. Taylor 7 was busy and caused problems. Pack 7 steadied the ship. Patterson 7 looked bright.

  20. Gone to a promotion contender on a cold rainy Tuesday night after an away game on Saturday. A place we haven't won since the 30s? On a night we haven't won a championship game since 2012? Fought back not once but twice and then got a go ahead goal with half a team that hasn't played together this season. They'll be disappointed they conceded late but if people still doubt the character of this current team then nothing will change it. I am quite chuffed by this point on top of Saturday. I'm quietly fancying us to finish top 10. Still early for sure but we just feel so much stronger and together as a team. Well at least that's what I'm sensing. It's still a young squad so maybe some rough patches but it doesn't seem they fear teams or stretches of good play by the opposition. They'll keep working their socks off and their quality levels keep rising on the ball.

  23. I'm amazed at some of the negativity during that half. Wolves are undoubtedly quality, but we have worked our Bollocks off and played some decent stuff @ times too. I take back what I said earlier about resting players, rest the lot on Saturday. Again Fam and Cod the only negatives. We are well in this game!

  28. I actually think it's 4-4-2 with Wright going to RB. Leko left wing (his favourite position)

  29. Think he'll keep it simple to minimize the changes after a good win, and play Wright at right back. Less attacking than Vyner, but more solid. Leko left wing. Easy now.

  32. I'd say we're playing OK. Which actually is all I wanted. Dont get me wrong, if a team is going to win it, it looks like being Wolves, but we're still in the game* much like we were at Reading. *except for Diedhiou. He's been shit again. In positive news, Joe looks a decent left back and Bobby continues to look pretty decent with the ball. We'd take a point all day long.

  34. Decent half. We pressed well and limited their chances. We're actually playing pretty well without creating quite as many chances as I'd like. Think FF and JBryan have been fantastic at the back. Brownhill has been everywhere and COD has been solid defensively. They seem to to have three out to either wing as soon as we put it wide so might be good to bring Leko inside a bit more - he'd either get some luck there or open the space up out wide for others. Fammy's having a tough game, so I'd get Woodrow/Taylor on early 2nd half. All in all not bad - COYR

  35. We look so much more assured this season. There is plenty to come from this team. We aren't quite firing in attack at the moment . We are wearing teams down. A pleasure to watch a streetwise City team .

  36. Apart from going to sleep for their goal, we have pretty much matched Wolves. Leko looks a real livewire and is causing them all sorts of problems, need to take off Diedhiou and bring on Taylor up front for second half - but doubt LJ will change anything. Diedhiou is just so slow to react, he really is offering very little for us - carbon copy of his disappointing performance against Reading. Aside from Fammy, everybody playing their part, even COD!

  37. So we've gone from "all credit to LJ if we beat Reading today" To "We were lucky"
