  1. I think it is high time to dispel this rubbish about "core support" with every gashead's nemesis - "facts" as opposed to #gaslogic I took some time to analyse the historical attendance data often linked in this thread to see exactly how core support stacked up over the years between the two clubs. Needless to say if that website's data is even partially correct (and there is no reason to particularly doubt it) it confirms what we all knew already. So how to read this graph..... It is based on the percentage difference in average attendances between the two clubs. A blue bar means the gas were better supported that year, a red bar City were better supported. The size of the bar indicates the percentage difference in attendance. For each year there is data (back to 1921, but none through WWII) I worked out the difference in attendance as a percentage of the lower of the two attendances - essentially what this figure tells you is how much the lower attended club would have needed to increase their own attendance to match the better supported club that year. As an example last year we averaged 19256 and the blue few averaged 9302 - the difference is 9954, and that equates to an extra 107% deluded half-wits they would have needed to find (and fit into their dump) to have matched us. Some observations.... Since England won the world cup just over 50 years ago rovers have had a higher average attendance once! Only on 6 occasions would we have needed a greater than 10% increase on our attendance in a season to match them There are 71 occasions where rovers would have needed a greater than 10% increase to match us City have never needed to make up 50% or more to reach rovers attendance On 21 occasions we have more than doubled their attendance (all figures >100% on the graph)

  2. More unsubstantiated, deluded bullsh1t from the uber fans over in BS7. We're all glory hunting 'plastics' now, waiting to charge up to the Mem! I wish I knew that 40 odd years ago. As for 'the % of support stays the same'? No it doesn't. Is 7,000 compared to 21,000 (33%) the same as 6,000 is to 13,000 (46%) then? They are totally brain dead, absolute whoppers! Their support is now 1/3 of ours, supported by both attendances and season ticket holders (~5,000 and falling in comparison to 15,500 and rising) and their % is falling as well. Long may it continue. 'If you're going to be a gashead you're going to be a gashead. It will be driven by family and/or the first game you're take to and then the bug bites. There are far more many man utd fans in Bristol than there are gasheads. We've always been in the shadow of the Dark Side of BS3, but the % of support remains the same. The ones who go to Trashton when they are doing well just because they are doing well stops as soon as they're not doing well. The majority of our support go to our games come what may, home and away, rain or shine. IF we ever became a 'bigger' club then those 'plastics' down at Trashton would come and see us'.

  3. Indeed it does - I will try and improve the graphics and repost over the weekend when I have some time I am thinking now of some other infographics and charts I could make once in a while - what i would need though is factual data sources to generate them. I guess there are a few books and stuff with some of this data - however I am hesitant to type something like "Bristol Rovers official History" into a browser for fear of getting profiled as a gashead by Google, Amazon etc and linked with titles like "Boob Cricket: Rules and Regualtions", "The Dummies guide to being a racist" and "Horse punching for beginners" On a serious note if anyone knows of any reliable away attendance datasets I could look at debunking the whole "travelling away in massive numbers, its what we do" bullshit

  8. This a great post. Thanks @cityal. Please will you reproduce this post as a completely new thread then mods, please will you pin that thread so that when this subject is raised again, as it often is by the 15ers, we have the rebuttal information immediately to hand?

  9. It's very strange isn't it, that because we're better in every single measurable way, we're plastic glory hunters who hate real football, and they're the plucky underdogs bravely fighting against the money laden teds. They're just a wanky tinpot outfit and no amount of circlejerk and backslapping will change that.

  16. Personally, there are many things about the gas that I despise but their support pales into insignificance compared to ours so it's irrelevant! Even Sky said on the tele, during the 'Boro match (I watched it again, how sad am I), that our support is loud so why would we be jealous of 7,000 people getting wet watching hoofball on a quagmire, in a sh1t stadium when we regularly have over 20,000 enjoying Championship football, on a bowling green, in luxury?

  17. This is the particularly funny and ironic part of the interview. Credit to some of the Gas fans for flagging up his mistake on the gasheads.org forum. As PRESIDENT of Bristol Rovers, Wael Al-Qadi should know that that FFP does not apply to League 1 clubs. Instead, they (like other L1 clubs) adhere to the Salary Cost Management Protocol (SCMP). This is a Financial Fair Play framework but rather importantly, owners can invest as much money in their club as they choose. Such investment is not permitted by FFP in the Championship hence the reason Steve Lansdown is trying to build the turnover of BCFC with so much non-matchday activity. Basically, Al-Qadi is lying to the Rovers supporters when he says that FFP is at least part of the reason that the owners are not investing more in the playing squad. They could pour millions in if they wanted to. Played like a fiddle....

  18. STATEMENT: TRAINING GROUND PLANNING PERMISSION APPLICATION NOT SUBMITTED Bristol Rovers Football Club can confirm it has not submitted a new planning permission application for its Almondsbury base. Crucially the look–at-the-state-of-it site will bring together the club’s first team and Academy players and staff plus enhance Rovers’ care pathway programme. Included in the old-look facility are a main rugby pitch plus two other rugby pitches and a cricket pavilion. The club has worked with Wael’s project managers to design a building that any part time rugby club would be proud of, encompassing a toilet, a changing hut, a first aid kit, rehab facilities and an MFI imitation teak home office set for the first team and Academy staff. 20th CENTURY FACILITIES “This will bring our training facilities into the 20th century and provide the football club’s Academy and first team with a place to hang out” Rovers chief executor Steve Hamster told brfc.coke.uk. “We’ve been pretending to work on the training ground project for the past year and, like the redevelopment of the Memorial Stadium, it’s a fantastic story to tell the fans.” “Our player development programme is supposed to underpin our ethos at Bristol Rovers Football Club and providing a second rate home for our first team and Academy setup is another demonstration of the Al-Qadi family’s level of commitment to the club and its young players.” Hamster added: “We have worked with so many consultants I’m beginning to lose count but when the current lot disappear and new ones are appointed we will keep supporters fully up to date every step of the way because they think it means something.”

  19. Yeah that's true, City fans singing City songs....the Blackthorn End didn't like it, and apparently there were loads of dirty Ted's waiting outside the Mem to take the piss, so all the fans stayed in the ground, rioted, picked up banning orders and punched a horse and it was all the Ted's fault!

  20. All joking aside I would have thought if any club did a book like this most fans of that club would enjoy it. Everyone has a favourite away day and memories like that are the ones that you will take to the grave.

  25. Next in line (a day early as the Mrs. is dragging me Christmas shopping tomorrow! ) Gillingham away, owned by our friend Paul Scally, who kindly sent us Tiny Penis free of charge. Gillingham is a small town in Dorset for any of the few who are travelling, easy trip, should be thousands locked out. In the Gills squad should be our old mate Scott Wagstaff. Waggy has restyled himself as a tramp in honour of R*vers greatest ever homeless player

  26. "And now you're gonna believe us (NO WE'RE NOT) and now you're gonna believe us (NO WE'RE NOT) and now you're gonna believe us (NO WE'RE NOT) the Gas are staying up (NO YOU'RE NOT!)"...... Still they never learned because a few seasons later it was.... "And now you're gonna believe us (NO WE'RE NOT) and now you're gonna believe us (NO WE'RE NOT) and now you're gonna believe us (NO WE'RE NOT) the SHIT ARE GOING DOWN (NO WE'RE NOT!)"...... No doubt they will prematurely ejaculate this again in the future and make themselves the laughing stock of the West once again! #Thegiftthatkeepsongiving

  28. They didn't have larger attendances though - both were zero for six years due to WW2 (so omitted in the graph). My apologies for not applying the seemingly obligatory #Gaslogic at the end of the comment

  29. Dwayne Colony own the training ground from what we were told. That they are not paying people is possible, but they do own it. There was something wrong with the player wages, even some of the Rovers fans mentioned it, but they got shot down for the "rumour" as apparently if you don't know 100% of the facts then it makes everything you say a lie and your Ted scum trying to rock the boat.

  31. That's because away grounds tend to have toilets rather than portaloos. Well, except Swindon.

  36. That’s bollocks actually, I despise nearly everything about their club not just their 5000 or so ‘die hards’. There is/was a flag/banner with ‘Ikea took the Tote End’...can’t remember whether it was a Swedish Flag or just on a plain background.
    1 point
  37. Weird one, but am I imagining a large Swedish flag with "Ikea took the Tote End" on it that used to do the rounds? If not I need to get it made!

  39. What I find annoying/complicit with the whole sag, bitter, twisted and loyal and proved thing, is that almost every mouthy blue ******, actually doesn't attend any of their games. Yes, I know regulars that do follow most home and a lot of away games, but they're still pretty stupid at accepting the facts. At least they support their team. As for the one's that hate the shit heads and all that they are but don't actually attend games, I would like to break your umbrella then hope it rains!
