How's this? I can do it periodically if people want it done.

Yeah similar, although with that one it was/is to get around paying compensation to us. As the compensation rule for young players doesn't apply to foreign clubs. He will simply play for the Belgian club for a season or two before Leicester buy him. Fifa really need to step in and make it against the rules for anyone to have a financial interest in more than 1 club, and clubs owning other clubs is laughable.

Ha, ha, is that a trick question as in we'll do well to stay in League 1 this season with the fact they can't compete with Forest Green on the pitch and all those tents [that makes them the laughing stock of the entire Football League] their wonderful owners provide off it.

Well, because other clubs have parachute payments, and more dosh, and better players, and stronger benches, and Frank Lampard, and, if I can say this on here, better/been-there-and-done-it-and-got-the-baseball-cap managers. All this, we know, makes their chances of promotion greater than ours. Nine times out of ten. Yeah, quite probably. You certainly like to think so. We'd have been fresher, no doubt. But as others have said, we had injuries during the cup run and playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday did not impact negatively on league form last autumn, going into winter. We were 7th in the Championship when we knocked Palace out in October, then went on a run of 8 wins in 11 league games, and had climbed to 2nd by the time of the LC quarter - final. All this without Fam and a proper right back, and Bailey Wright was then suspended for 3 games, I think, in this run (and also O'Dowda was crocked during this period). You could look at that and deduce: the cup run and beating Prem sides gave us confidence and belief, and that it benefitted the league form, tremendously. We were on a high. We were sailing along. So, I'm not sure: was the cup run detrimental, or beneficial? Or could it have been both, first the latter, then the former? From the league cup exit at the end of January, we had no cup games to worry about and players coming back from injury, notably Fam. Plus three new signings in January, fresh legs at the very least. We beat QPR with ten men a few days after Man City at home, but then our form fell off a cliff. With no cup games, and a growing squad, our confidence and belief appeared to desert us. February was a disappointing month, with no wins. The Sunderland game was, in my view, pivotal. Three nil up at half-time, a return to winning ways was in the bag. Did we throw that away because of the cup games, and or the injuries? Patterson had his shirt pulled in the area at 3-1 or 3-2 and nothing was given, so that would've helped, but the side that clung on at Sheff Utd and Leeds couldn't do it at home v serial losers and relegation-bound Sunderland. Interestingly, LJ held his hands up after that one and took responsibility, saying: "I have to hold my hands up and say, tactically, I got it wrong in the second half. I should have settled for 3:0. I probably got excited, and felt they were there for the taking.....So, my fault...." Not something we generally associate with LJ, that. It was too early to call after 24 games last season, when we beat Reading on Boxing Day, so yes, it's still a bit early! We have been well beaten by Sheff Utd at home in recent times (I think it's three straight league wins here for them) and they are the sort of team and coach that tend to make mincemeat of LJ and his well-intentioned but slightly soft football, so with this in mind and plenty of time to prepare, it will be very interesting to see how we go about this game. I'd imagine they might target Kelly again, for instance. Three wins in a row makes everyone feel better but in early September I am surprised that so many are quite as optimistic as they are on this thread. I haven't a clue what will happen this season, and know that predictions about this game are treacherous (I thought we were dowe in 2016/17). But don't let me spoil your optimistic outlook! (I hope Sheff Utd don't, either). One more thought on this: Because it's Bristol City.

My theory is that we have reserved a small "war chest" for January. I think the club realise that they cannot repeat last January's debacle. Bringing in Diony, Walsh and Kent wasn't strengthening for the now. I think it has been said that the players reacted poorly to the perceived lack of ambition, the better ones mentally drifted and began focussing on summer moves, and the others just generally struggled to carry on with the same hunger they had in the autumn. This naturally contributed to our dramatic fall down the table. @Michael McIndoe said at the time when he was posting on here that the club should be signing real quality if they wanted to capitalise on our strong autumn showing, and a number of posters on here echoed those opinions. I think therefore that the club are holding some of the summer money back so that if we find ourselves in the top 8 come the new year we can, if we wish to, properly strengthen and prepare for a spring push for promotion or at least the play-offs.

Do you think there would have been a bet available on Sunday for the number of interceptions by the referee?

I have an irrational dislike for Dwight Gayle. - I don't like his name. - I don't like his attitude. - I don't like the way he puffs his chest out. - I don't like the way he runs. - I don't like any of the goal he scores. - I've never seen his wife/girlfriend but I suspect I won't like her either. I just don't like anything about him or anything he does.

Talking of spooky comparisons, Watford currently have the identical record that Leicester City had at this stage of the season when they won the premier league - identical in terms of games played, wins, points, goals scored, goals conceded, etc....get yer money on the Hornets to win the premier league in 2019.....as @Coombsy would say, “it’s a done deal” - but, then again, he or she is ALWAYS wrong....keep yer money safe and spend it on real ale I say....

Spot on @screech my all time favourite band and all time favourite guitarist and need your love so bad my all time favourite track and the Peter Green incarnation of Fleetwood Mac played on my all time favourite album 7936 Rhodes by Eddie Boyd. The guy was falling to pieces and the lyrics of man of the world was almost like a suicide note but we all believed that it was just another blues track, I love the track but it always makes me feel sad. His voice and guitar work on all Fleetwood Mac albums up to then play on was just the best and for 12/18 months they were outselling the Beatles and quite rightly so. People have written about Jeremy Spencer and his moment of madness with a religious cult, he is still alive and recording, however Danny Kirwan a prodigy of Green's and the 3rd guitarist later on in Fleetwood Mac went the way of Peter Green but sadly never recovered and died in June this year. Thank you @Robbored for this thread, later tonight the dog and dustbin album (1st album) full blast, an album that contains my 2nd all time favourite track merrygoround and followed by Mr Wonderful which contains my 3rd all time favourite track a love that burns. All hail the Green god.

I’d question that .... great away terrace and they sold Wagon Wheels in the refreshment hut for away fans, whatever happened to that legendary snack?! Good old Springfield Park - trumps the Mem on every level! Incidentally, last time I drove to a game there I was flagged down by a guy near the ground, I stopped, wound down the window and he asked: “Excuse me mate, is there a B&Q in Wigan?” I replied: “W-I-G-A-N....no there isn’t mate...” and drove on....

In some of their tiny little minds they just expect someone to gift them a stadium, they have been so hard done by over the years, didn’t you know? personally I’m just astounded that no one has came forward and provided them with a 100,000 all seater arena, they are the most bestest and most loyal supporters in the country after all, or so they like to tell everyone anyway, how no one has seen their HUGE potential and taken advantage of this I’ll never know.

@Ian M I think the point you're actually trying to make is not that we were deliberately raising funds, but that we have held back on spending this summer with a view to spending big at a later date. If that is your point then I think I agree.
  31. 1 point
Yep. You have to go back nearly 20 years, and focus on a ground that was basically condemned way back then, to find anything that comes below The Mem in the slum pecking order. They didn’t even havevthe best ground in non league. Not even close to it..!

Hope it has been turned down , as advertising is sprayed on the pitch. It would look a mess afterwards. Remembered when an NFL game was played down the gate ,and it took ages to clear it off. We had a game on tv after that and it looked terrible .

Liking the sarky response Keyardiv....the ill-informed on here who think you can get to the premier league by just lumping it up front make I laugh! They believe Warnock holds the record for the most promotions in English football because his sides ‘cheat’ and just knock it long....it’s very funny....if it was that simple many sides would have sussed him out and beaten his teams....but he just keeps on finishing above them....

This got me searching, and I see now that it did the same to you! This is all of his managerial “runs”: Oldham 12/13: Winless 4 Unbeaten 3 Losing 2 Winning 3 Oldham 13/14 Winless 6 (twice) Unbeaten 10 Losing 3 Winning 2 Oldham 14/15 Winless 4 Unbeaten 11 (1 loss in 15) Losing 3 Winning 2 Barnsley 14/15 Winless 9 Unbeaten 7 Losing 2 Winning 4 Barnsley 15/16 Winless 8 Unbeaten 6 Losing 8 Winning 6 City 15/16 Winless 3 Unbeaten 3 Losing 2 Winning 2 City 16/17 Winless 9 (1 win in 17 - 2 in 22) Unbeaten 5 Losing 8 Winning 3 City 17/18 Winless 5 Unbeaten 10 (1 loss in 15 - 2 in 22) Losing 3 Winning 4 Now this is obviously limited as a dataset, as a couple of draws and a win in amongst 20 poor games might alter the perception of that period (and vice versa), but a) it’s easier to just limit ourselves to a single type of “run”, and b) I’ve included a few notable examples of that. The ones in bold are the ones I’d consider particularly impressive/disappointing. Arbitrarily I assigned anything above 7 in the winless/unbeaten categories, and anything above 5 in the winning/losing categories. Looking at the bare numbers, it could actually suggest that his time at Barnsley was the anomaly in terms of lots of streaky runs. Ultimately though, I’d say there is very little pattern, and using previous results such as these to predict the future might just be a slight waste of time. Also, I haven’t bothered to compare any of these runs to “average” runs of other teams/managers, which would help us set the impressive/disappointing boundaries a little more accurately. Mainly I just wanted to find the actual numbers though, so people can make up their own minds.

Who knows..?! It IS possible, but it’s also unlikely, because the competition is so strong. The thing that pleases me is that we DO have a chance. We are competitive, at a very good level of football. We are capable of winning, losing or drawing every fixture. It’s too hard to predict, but that makes it exciting, unpredictable and a million miles away from where we were prior to the double winning season.

But, but, they`re just a persecuted minority that should be welcomed and embraced by the settled community and not criticized for wishing to live an alternative lifestyle. Thieving scum every one of them. No doubt the contents of a few garden sheds locally have been `liberated` over the last few days and one or two quad bikes have mysteriously disappeared with A&S`s finest at a complete loss as to the identity of the culprits. Watch them rock up on a school playing field somewhere close by and wreck that in the next day or two now.
