  1. Since it was clear we were raising funds this summer I have given our financial position some thought. I haven’t had the time to fully research our FFP position plus I doubt all of the details are available yet if I had but I believe in terms of what is and isn’t allowed, that in terms of the 3 year cycle, year 1 was pretty much break even. We then had a big loss last year and this Summer I think we have looked to balance that. Certainly we are between break-even and a manageable loss over the 3 seasons, nowhere near the £39m allowable loss for the period. This gives us some wiggle ro

  3. Yeah I may have worded it poorly (look at the time of posting ). Deliberately raising funds not so much as expecting bids to come in and making a decision to spend later. I keep going back to Gary Neville’s comment after the Man U - Spurs game when talking about Lucas Moura that it can take up to 12 months for a new player to shine in the Pochetino system and can’t help but think the same will often apply to us. One because Johnson wants us to play a pitch wide pressing system similar to those employed by Klopp & Pochetino and it takes time for players to learn the trigger points,

  4. I loved my time as Stadium Announcer at AG. If anybody wants to book me as an after dinner speaker, I've got a few good stories to tell It was the SLO aspect of the job, and some of the abuse I copped, that finally wore me down and made me decide it was time to make way for someone else. For the record, I think Downsy does a good job. He's not everybody's cup of tea, but neither was I. You are never going to please everybody if you have any sort of front-line role in football, and you just have to accept that and carry on doing your best, and being true to your own style. Downsy is his own

  6. Anyway ......panic over ..... there’s news on the new tent .....sorry temporary new Stand If this is true ........ (Posted on Sagshat) The new stand arrived, however the rear of the stand clashed with the pastie hut and the entrance clashed with the toilets. In short it wasn’t measured up properly and was sent back. Needs amending now should be back in a few weeks. #clashwithpastyhut

  8. Anyone who thinks Warnock doesn't encourage his players to time-waste, feign injuries, engage in sly tackles off the ball etc etc should book an appointment wth the optician. The guy is legendary for it - and it's not just Bristol City fans who give him stick because of this. However, I think he is one of the best motivitional managers in England. His brand of football isn't modern or sophisticated or often very easy on the eye. Where he wins out is as a morale creator; he makes teams feel like a gang: "nobody likes me and nobody likes us, they don't want us to succeed, it's us v the

  9. I'm not sure if this has been covered in here yet, if so feel free to point it out. I've just listened to Stan and Joe's podcast and they speak at the end about Downsy running between the kids with flags before the game on Sunday, waiting for the players live on the big screen saying "can we see some dabbing?" and encouraging kids to dab... I can't comment as I wasn't in the ground at 2:50 but if this is right then **** me that's the most cringeworthy thing Downsy has done and there's an ever growing big list. I have nothing against the bloke personally, I'm sure he's a lovely c

So, after doing things by the books, and with all our accounts in order, and all our financial "eyes" dotted and "teas" crossed (we're not owned by an accountant for nothing) we're ready, finally, this time - more than any other time - we're all geared up to "go for it" in 2019/20 only - would you flippin believe it? - for bloody Newcastle and West Ham to be relegated along with Cardiff, instead of Huddersfield and someone else as crap and they've-had-their-moment as Huddersfield, and the Championship, incredibly, if it were possible, looks harder an

For anyone going into coaching I coached from kids through to decent amateur men’s and some with City’s youth side Having done the spectre I personally found the most rewarding was , perhaps surprisingly , teenagers and I’d personally recommend getting involved at U14/16/18 level As long as they weren’t the odd pain they were old enough to understand hat you were asking and to try and implement it and improve with drills etc and the improvement is noticeable and tangible I found decent amateur football difficult as adult players were generally uninterested in improving or

  18. This is crucial. It's not so much for Birmingham's offence or that breaching FFP will help Brum to promotion, as this looks fairly likely. However, there is the real prospect that Birmingham's near neighbours are dicing with the upper limits of FFP and they will almost certainly be competing at the top end of the table. If Villa do breach and are in the promotion hunt later in the season, then if Brum are given a "slap on the wrist" ( suspended points deduction or a hefty fine) then you can bet that Villa will point to that if they are given a severe points deduction that denies the

  20. Something to chew on over the International Break - I think we've assembled a talent pool good enough to go up. I'm not saying we will be promoted this season, that's a tad too insanely-optimistic for this stage of the season, but I like the chance we've given ourselves. I also like the fact that Elliason has really upped his game and looks like an assist machine; much to the delight of Weimann. Thanks to AW'S sublime finishing, he could be in for a 20+ season. I wouldn't be surprised if Famara also got near this mark. You'd imagine Lloyd Kelly will go from strength to strength as

  27. Yeah similar, although with that one it was/is to get around paying compensation to us. As the compensation rule for young players doesn't apply to foreign clubs. He will simply play for the Belgian club for a season or two before Leicester buy him. Fifa really need to step in and make it against the rules for anyone to have a financial interest in more than 1 club, and clubs owning other clubs is laughable.

  28. But of course, their moronic fans doing the EXACT same thing in the 2007 game is completely forgotten, not to mention when they all ran on the pitch goading Wycombe fans when they survived dropping out of the football league (), running on the pitch attacking opposition players (I think it was against Eastleigh), I could easily find the article.. those idiots have a pitch invasion when it comes up on their scoreboard that we're losing a game..

  29. Ha, ha, is that a trick question as in we'll do well to stay in League 1 this season with the fact they can't compete with Forest Green on the pitch and all those tents [that makes them the laughing stock of the entire Football League] their wonderful owners provide off it.

  31. Well, because other clubs have parachute payments, and more dosh, and better players, and stronger benches, and Frank Lampard, and, if I can say this on here, better/been-there-and-done-it-and-got-the-baseball-cap managers. All this, we know, makes their chances of promotion greater than ours. Nine times out of ten. Yeah, quite probably. You certainly like to think so. We'd have been fresher, no doubt. But as others have said, we had injuries during the cup run and playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday did not impact negatively on league form last autumn, going into winter. We w

  32. @Ian M nice OP....you’ll find my reply in your DM!! Hadn’t realised you turned it into a post! I think it’s less about deliberately raising funds, it’s more about covering losses....£18.4 loss in 17/18 if SL converting that debt last season directly correlates to our P&L (which is how he’s managed previous losses). I still think SL would’ve wanted to sell one or two of Flint, Bryan, Magnússon (less so) and Reid in January but in our position: LJ / MA would’ve pushed hard to keep them they could be sold in the summer....mindful of the contract expiry of Reid, Magn

  33. My theory is that we have reserved a small "war chest" for January. I think the club realise that they cannot repeat last January's debacle. Bringing in Diony, Walsh and Kent wasn't strengthening for the now. I think it has been said that the players reacted poorly to the perceived lack of ambition, the better ones mentally drifted and began focussing on summer moves, and the others just generally struggled to carry on with the same hunger they had in the autumn. This naturally contributed to our dramatic fall down the table. @Michael McIndoe said at the time when he was posting on her

  35. Interesting read, but the problem I have with this is the suggestion that we were deliberately “raising funds” this summer as part of a bigger plan. I don’t believe that to be the case. It was simply the case that three of our best players all wanted to leave because they were capable of bigger and better, and we had little choice but to cash in while they had strong market value. No one could have predicted that Bobby Reid would have become a £10 million striker within one season. If he hadn’t, we wouldn’t have had such a valuable asset that other clubs wanted to buy. That said, I do acc

  42. Wow.... just wow! You can tell City won at the weekend as it seems some of us City fans are not happy unless we are moaning about something! In this case the the original poster was not even at the game but still feels able to have a moan about it! I love Bristol City but sometimes I don’t love our fans... another example being those booing Marlon Pack in the first half in the South Stand. The guy has been a legend for a while, a great start to the season, leading as a captain should.... yet one 20 min dodgy spell and he’s the anti Christ. Embarrassing. I would laugh but I

  43. yes! The first Boxing Day game was brill, my first trip up there and a monster following from us on that terrace. Brilliant atmosphere as we clung on for a jammy 1-0 win. The next year was the mis-kick and by that stage they had seated the away section. Remember a bloke falling down the stairs and cracking his head open, claret everywhere The 2-2 game a few years later was blinding with the off-field entertainment! Not been back to the hawthorns since I don't think, but definitely fond memories from the 90s there. A great ground and usually a belting atmosphere.

  46. With respect...surely your last sentence sums up everything. You need a detailed analysis of what was happening at the Club during January. We as fans have no idea what our budget within FFP allowed us in the window. We also have no idea who we approached, who turned us down or who was available. Plus..if we did buy in, and didn't go up...how inexcusable would it be, if we didn't have the budget to spend in the summer and recruit for this season? As said before...it's not like going shopping in January. So many anomalies that we don't know of to take into consideration
