  1. I suspect that you @Ivorguy are the only 'others' on this forum who 'find such views repugnant'. You are older than me for sure; I'm merely in my mid sixties. You hanker after those halcyon days of Atyeo, Bradford, leather football's, no segregation at grounds, going to Ashton Gate one week and Eastville the next, football rattles, rosettes, real butter, mum's homemade jam, rationing, barrage balloons, WWll ... those days weren't all bad, Ivor neither were they all good. I grew up in east Bristol and encountered lots of Rovers supporters long before the term 'gashead' had been coined. They weren't always happy encounters. I watched City and Rovers alternate Saturdays although for me there was only ever one team in Bristol. I never saw Geoff Bradford play but I did have the pleasure of watching John Atyeo. Aged about seven, walking away from my first derby match wearing my City rosette, an adult Rovers supporter unprovoked (I was only seven after all) tried to punch me in the stomach. Thankfully for me, he smashed his hand into the heavy wooden rattle I was holding, hurting only himself, not me. At that moment, for me, the die was cast. I am a very proud Bristolian and always will be; I am an avid football supporter but Bristol City is my only footballing love. I don't like the Rovers; I despise them and hope that they go bust. I respect your age and your different point of view, Ivor but you are not entitled to tell me and other forum members that our opinions are 'sad ... childish ... thuggish ...decidedly unpleasant ... uncalled for' just because they doesn't coincide with your views. CTID.

  2. I take exception to that, I've never been a thug, and it's not 'thuggish' ( even in this comically absurd PC world we live in) to have a very strong dislike for something, and to state it. It's not 'uncalled for' either - they are a truly vile club and I've had numerous extremely unpleasant experiences with Rovers fans over the years including being attacked several times for no other reason than I was wearing City colours out and about in Bristol. I gather from previous posts you don't live anywhere near Bristol and haven't done so for a very long time. Perhaps if you actually lived here and existed amongst them you'd be less benevolent towards Rovers, and wouldn't have such a pompous and sneering attitude to the genuine and well founded feelings of your fellow BCFC fans who do.

  3. I got good friends who as gasheads, they happen to be deluded and believe every rumour and story at their club, one still thinks wael is a billionaire it doesn’t stop me hating rovers, they are a vile club with 90% of their fan base being obnoxious assholes always playing the victim and always blaming their woes on others the sooner they go out of business the better

  4. I think December 10th 1983 helped Bristol City immensely....we’d gone through the hell of 1982 - we had a mix and match side which included a Bristol University student....it was a very uncertain time....then the FA Cup second round draw gave us an away tie at Eastville against a Rovers team that was lording it above us in the divisions....and we beat them 1-2 that day ....with the student mis-hitting the winner to send us into absolute delirium on the away terrace...Terry Cooper was at the helm and he even came on and played that day...but that day was a serious springboard, we believed totally in our club again, we’d just gubbed the gas in their own backyard and we loved it! We were on the way back after the 1982 stuff...so I think that derby in the 1980s really helped us, because we got promoted at the end of that season....and we haven’t looked back since...

  5. Ivorguy, whilst I completely understand your point of view, it is one that fell out of fashion a very long time ago. Yes, in a perfect world all football fans could sit side by side with no animosity. Unfortunately, your era was a very long time ago and there has been a lot of change since then, hence the majority of City fans will have been brought up to dislike the fewest and vice-versa. Make no mistake, our backwards friends from Horfield hate us more than we hate them for the simple fact they know we have surpassed them in every way as club. Besides, the vast majority of us remember the 80's when they tried to steal our ground, as well as having the upper hand in the regular games between us (I will never forget them pipping us to the Div 3 title in 89/90). Their time was then (and didn't they let us know it at any opportunity), ours is now and any City fan that doesn't enjoy it either hasn't ever had to experience those years, can remember when fans used to follow both clubs, or are indifferent to them because for whole generation they haven't been a threat. Personally, I wouldn't wish them to go bust as I have a lot of good mates who are staunch R*vers but if they did go bust I would laugh my head off the same as I did when they were relegated to the Conference.

  6. I call myself a Bristol City supporter, first and foremost. They are an embarrassment to my fair city.

  7. What success did having local derbies help bring either club in the 80’s or 90’s..? Apart from lower league promotion..? Surely, 2 periods from last century aside, this is currently closing in on our most successful period now (sustained 2nd tier football, with play off ambition) Look how far we’ve progressed off the field since we last played them..! They may need us as a market, but we sure as hell don’t need them and their going out of business could only benefit us.

  8. How ironic, age doesn't seem to have made you any wiser does it? You are the most relentlessly negative, miserable poster on here and yet you see fit to lecture others on what they should or shouldn't post? The breadth of your arrogance astounds me.

  9. Me..a young 71 and lived in N Bristol for over 30 years,my whole family and relatives have always been city and Bristol rugby supporters, needless to say if there was a plunger to push to send that vile club into oblivion i would gladly pay for the privilege, that's my take and i don't give a flying what anyone else thinks.

  11. Absolutely spot on BS4, I will never forget that day, I don’t think I’ve ever been more proud of a City team than I was that day, probably my favourite away day ever.

  12. Unless people were around at that time or old enough to understand where we were as a club, it's probably not easy to comprehend jut what a huge result that was. We were just about alive as a football club and, as a 16 year old, it felt like 'bring your boots, you might get a game'. R*vers were doing quite well, for them, and nobody gave us a prayer that day. The Muller rd end was rammed, more in defiance than expectation and by god didn't the scum fans let us know it! I agree that that day was a real turning point and don't think I have celebrated a goal more than I celebrated our second, it was bedlam! I despise their club and many of their 'supporters' TBH. Yes, there are some good ones, some of them are close friends of mine but they have an extremely high % of utter *********, waaaay above the average. An example, it doesn't happen very often now but I couldn't go out to a local pub anywhere near where I live now or lived previously without the inevitable 'shithead' comment from someone, even when my kids were small, we would hear some horrible comment. Funny how they say absolutely **** all nowadays. ?

  13. It's not by our choice that the League's most tedious and obnoxious club happens to be from the same City as the great BCFC. The sooner they go bust the better.

  14. 519. It’s amazing to think that they genuinely believe their away support is something special. They bang on and on about it... Travelling in huge numbers, “it’s just what they do....” apparently Deluded idiots.

  15. Look. It would be lovely if we all got along wouldn't it? Nobody likes conflict and disliking something isn't a pleasant feeling. I'd have been happy to wish Rovers well and enjoy a good natured rivalry if things were different. However, hate is not natural, it is learned. And it's very hard to feel anything other than loathing to a club that were just waiting for us to go bust so they could scab our stadium on the cheap, announce our scores over the tannoy when we are losing, ripped off the rugby club, constantly spout nonsense about their wonderful support whilst slamming ours and just generally go about their business in a tacky and unprofessional manner. This is an entity that absolutely hates Bristol City and wishes nothing but misery on us, perhaps more so than they want their own team to succeed. You're right, it is sad. Sad that they've given us so many reasons to hate them.

  16. Our last 2 visits to Luton on a Saturday afternoon have seen us take 968 and 1548 fans in 2004 and 2005. In 2003 we took 1200. All in League 1, like they are at the moment. Obviously I’m only mentioning these attendances because I know they love to compare our away support with theirs. I’m sure they will plaster these figures all over Facebook and Twitter.

  17. Oh come on, if you supported such a small team wouldn't you want a memento of the day your side actually managed to get promoted to the Football League? I'm prepared to allow them some artistic license on the "invasion" part. Bless them.

  18. at age 56. I dont hate The Gas. They are quite simply an irrelevance these days. I miss the days of close rivalry, and they arent likely to reappear any time soon.

  21. ....hang on....did we go third today in the fifth best division in Europe by beating a team who recently stuffed Aston Villa out of sight, whilst ‘da Roverzzz’ lost to Luton Town? Did all that happen? Oh well, as Darrell Clarke would say.....

  23. http://gaschat.co.uk/thread/12930/gas-luton-matchday-thread?page=19 I'm not so sure a league 1 player is too concerned about training grounds and facilities etc. Under Francis we trained on some pitches at Fry's which were used for local football teams. The chance to play in front of 10000 fans must surely be what persuades them, along with the wages. Another tough game against Coventry next weekend. They beat Barnsley today. Struggling to see where the next win is coming from if I'm honest.

  24. Apparently this is their worst start in 26 years..........I’m gutted for them............ NOT?

  25. It meant so much more than that at the time though than just a run-of-the-mill cup tie. It was the first time that an awful lot of us really started to believe that the dark times were actually behind us and we could see some light at the end of the tunnel again. if we drew them in the FA Cup over there this season it wouldn`t be anything like it was in 1983 and no match against them ever would be again - winning that game defined our future IMO and did something much more important than getting to the third round - it gave us hope and belief again.

  27. The majority that I know have their heads firmly in the sand. One win and its play offs or the gas are marching into the Championship or we're coming for you blah blah. They have little respect for teams in their own league and its laughable how they try to Lord it over clubs who are frankly far better than them on and off the pitch but "they should be beating teams like Accrington and Shrewsbury" Unbelievable. Is it any wonder no one likes them. The sooner they f..k off and die the better.

  36. Completely agree. I was only a young child at the time so only have vague memories of our financial collapse...but I do remember listening to that game at Eastville on the radio with my Dad (supporter since the late 1950s) and I've never seen him celebrate like that before or since - literally dancing around the room with delight. That proves to me how important that win was for the morale of the club.

  39. Well, I did make the effort about 40 years ago to go and watch them a few times at Eastville but I'm afraid that the team was rubbish, the atmosphere Abysmal, the ground a shitehole and their supporters thick as I don't know what. So I made the effort, I doubt that most did and I came to the same conclusion that those that didn't did. They are a complete bunch of no hopers, playing at a dung pit and their fans are complete and utter dross.

  40. Really? An old boy I know, he’s 90 next month utterly despises them. My late father, he’d of been 82 now, also abhorred them.

  42. I just give up with the level of vitriol Corinthian Spirit truly dead in Bristol then, save for some of us oldies who still remain true to the standards of the 40s and 50s. Atyeo and Bradford must be spinning in their graves at the views expressed here, if you can call them that. Makes me feel ashamed to be a City supporter in this age of hate.

  43. I make no claim as to being a "football" supporter. I am a Bristol City Supporter and **** everyone else.

  44. Just a little contrary note to strike. I hope things improve for Rovers and they begin to challenge us The old rivalry was good to watch, good for the success of both clubs, and good for football in the city Why young supporters under fifty should be so bitter is way beyond my understanding, but then again at my age much is beyond my understanding from Brexit onwards!

  46. Blimey for once I agree with their ground design, main pitch in the middle training pitches either side and corporate boxes all around, they may have to trim their bushes as that may restrict some views.
