  3. For what it is worth, and through the lens of personal experience I would just add that any treatment, counselling, chaplaincy work, or drugs program is aimed at a single purpose. That purpose is to help you realise that within you is the ability and the strength to control your own mental state. I completely believe that everyone has that inside of them, they only need to find it. Some are fortunate and are able to find it themselves, others need some help to locate it. For me I found it myself after a few tough years in my late teens. Now I know what to look out for, I can reco

  5. It is clearly a huge loss that Kalas is going to be out for around 6 weeks due to the injury sustained against Wigan, but there seems to me to be a lot of anti Nathan Baker sentiment here that I just don't understand. He clearly did not have a great end to last season, but up until January him & Flint were pretty much the best centre back pairing in the Championship and we were all waxing lyrical when we managed to sign him at the start of last season. Why not give the guy a chance to prove he is still the player that we know he has been for most of his career, rather than assume

  6. Like I always say, applaud their name when read out, but as soon as the ref blows his whistle they are our opposition NO REASON to acknowledge them in any positive way. If they get subbed, they'll get a reaction but no other time should they! We'll have 11 of our OWN who warrant our full support

  7. I`ve also heard it said that the feeling of belonging to something far larger than the individual and being part of a crowd of thousands all pulling in the same direction and yearning for the same thing is great therapy too - I know it`s helped me cope in the dark times I`ve had in my life and City have often been the only fixed point when everything else around you seems to be falling apart. To be in a situation where a complete stranger hugs or high fives you because you are sharing in a moment of ecstasy doesn`t happen in any other walk of life - that person doesn`t know you or what`s going

  9. Someone just pointed out to me that Channel 4 has a TV programme running at the moment called "The Real Football Fan Show". https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-real-football-fan-show https://twitter.com/TheRealFFS I was intrigued by how real it was, but it seems to be the Arsenal TV lot and an assortment of other barely comprehensible Londoners in replica shirts who "support" teams 200 miles away. The programme bills itself as "about the Premiership", and from what I can see it is proudly filmed in front of rows of half and half scarves. I thought it was an

  11. Tragic? Showing respect to Tammy is hardly tragic, the guy enjoyed his time here and gave all he could, if people want to show appreciation then that just shows they have some class, if anything booing players who moved on is tragic, it just motivates them to want to shove the booing down our throats.

  12. Hi, ive seen the historicalkits page, problem with that is that it doesnt have a lot of the third and away kits on it. for example you had a green lotto shirt around 1997, similar to the fiorentina home shirt design around that time, but it doesnt appear on a lot of the sites ive seen. i found it by accident. heres the one im talking about,. im sure i have a fairly comprehensive history of all the kits the club wore from 1980 onwards, but i thought id ask club fans to see if theres anything ive missed.

  13. Brave of you to say this publicly even if like all on here, you are using a nom de plume. My experience of losing a wife in a similar way, taught me that one will never reach a closure. It just gets further back in history every passing day. I found people were reticent about mentioning her, so I deliberately spoke about her, to help me and others to cope with it. As a PS. I married again and have another great partner although she's not much interest in my passions for football and rugby. It's hard for those whose lives are blighted by another's suicide, but one must he positive. Re

Unfortunately my brother in law took his own life 8 weeks ago, no sign of depression or any issues but it's what's going on inside that matters, it has broken us as a family that we couldn't help in anyway as we simply didn't know. The more coverage mental health awareness gets the better and I hope anyone who is suffering isn't scared to speak out, there is so much more help out there these days.

  16. Dear City fans, We cordially invite you to spend Non-League Day at Bristol's highest-ranked non-league team as we take on Paulton Rovers in the FA Trophy. Farm have been on a rich vein of cup form this season, making it to the 3rd qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time in our history by beating Southern Premier side Basingstoke Town 5-2 at The Creek last Saturday. We enter the FA Trophy in the Preliminary Round and hope to make a similar splash in the competition, your backing would help a lot. If you're craving a football fix during the international break, a City season t

  20. BREAKING NEWS: 'The Al Qadis are to set to reveal plans for a new stadium at half time in the next home game. The club have asked that although they realise fans will want to celebrate they should not bring flares in to the stadium . . . . . . . . . . because that's what they wore the last time we actually built something.'

  21. Knowing many chaplains, whilst being a Christian myself, I'd have to disagree with your first paragraph. The majority of chaplains aren't in hosptials/university's/schools even football clubs to convert people to become Christians. They are there to be someone who people can talk to and rely on. That may involve prayer but with my experience with visiting chaplains when I've felt low, that's normally something they'll ask if you are comfortable with first. I've had thoughts of becoming a chaplain myself when I'm slightly older, and from what I see, the role is one of pastoral suppo

  23. Don't be embarrassed to admit you have issues. Gone are the days of "oh get a grip"....It's being recognised as a serious issue along with the physical ones. And help is out there and becoming more readily available. Not perfect yet but much better than a few years back. The NHS "Lets Talk" type set ups are brilliant, so get a GP referall if you feel bad. I can talk from experience, and as mentioned above, admitting it to yourself, not feeling embarrassed, and talking about it are all crucial factors. I was actually surprised how people responded when I spoke of my worries a few years ago, all

  24. Dangerous ground talking about what might trigger mental illness as I think you’ve now found out. Probably best not to say anything other than it can affect each and everyone of us at any and sometimes many times. I live with mine every day of the week. I had weekly sessions with a counsellor for 6 months. In the end sunshine and the allotment helped as much as anything else. Many of us have demons or difficulties. Thankfully mine pass and I know that they will. Sometimes it takes longer than other times or longer than I’d hope. But they pass. Hang in there if that happens

  31. @The turtle's point makes sense, he just hasn't explained it very well (typical Dave ). Let's say City start with a home game, then 11 other teams also start with a home fixture (i.e. in a 24 team league, half the teams are at home at any one time). Therefore, if it was strictly home then away on alternative matchdays, then we'd never be able to play any of those other 11 teams as they'd always be home when we're home and away when we're away. Clear as mud

  32. It's literally impossible to be home away home away.... How would you ever play the other 11 teams (24 team) in the division who are home the same weekends you are, then away when you are? (And that's just factoring in one small part)

  36. Considering the following was said about him by Tinnion upon his release: "We have a culture at the football club that goes right from the first team to the Academy and if people stray away from that culture. That is professionalism, the desire to work and develop as young players. I think Ivan slipped a little bit in his professionalism, in his day-to-day work at the training ground and his discipline. It was agreed that he didn't fit that culture and that he had a negative effect on the football club. It was unfortunate for Ivan that he strayed out of that, and we can't afford to have t

If length of pass x difficulty and direction is used to assess quality … It is Marlon Pack. Squad average was 74% .. Marlon Pack was higher. If we use our eyes … Mine say its Marlon Pack.

  41. Sadly I have experience of hospital chaplains too. I have, however, found them more focussed on caring than converting. To be on the receiving end of such selfless compassion when you’re at the lowest you can possibly be is, looking back, a humbling experience. They never talked about a god or a faith. They were just there with the odd few words, a cup of tea and a boatload of understanding. It takes a special kind of person to do that and even now when I see one of them from time to time i give her a big hug, a big thankyou for just being there.

  43. Pearson was frustrating but he had his strengths. Felt he had a football brain but not the skill or athleticity to go with it. I don’t see any similarity with Watkins who looks more athletic and stronger. What they have in common is that they are unfortunate enough to be scapegoats for small minded fans.

  45. My first wife, who died twenty years ago, suffered clinical depression from early childhood. It will sound crazy to many on here but she started coming to City games after a visit to see an end of season testimonial match. She found that that noise of the crowd linked with action on the pitch, allowed her to forget her demons for a couple of hours. The only person I have ever known who was happy at a City match. Most of us get depressed watching them!

The hood in the hoody seems to have some of fetishist’s goggles built in. Every time I see them my mind starts to wander and I wonder.....

  50. My theory is that players, athletes today are so finely tuned that , like racehorses , they have become fragile. The players before the 1980's used to play more matches , on heavier pitches and didn't seem to have the niggling injuries . It was broken leg or hamstrings that kept them out . The pace , admittedly, was a bit slower but you never heard complaints of ' tiredness ' back then.
