  1. SUMMARY. LJ has spent the last few days having one-on-ones and reviewing the season with individuals. Has had 45 one-on-ones with what sounded like the whole football club. Recruitment; stressed they are looking at all positions all the time, and would not say explicitly that we did need a striker, despite Geoff pushing him hard to say that. As usual the club is looking at character when they recruit. LJ pointed out that we needed to fill left back slot because only Cameron Pring is a left back at the club. There have been relaxed discussions with JDS, and City have made him an offer

  3. It works like this - you play 46 games in a season and points are awarded for a win or a draw. If at the end of the season you have enough points you get "promoted" to the league above. Here to help.

  4. As we enter the quiet period of the year, thought this might be a good idea as a thread to keep people amused between hourly refreshes of the Transfer Forum and desperate exclamations as to our lack of ambition because we haven't yet signed A.New Striker/DaSilva/Kalas/Reece James/Fernandinho I'll start: with something I've thought for a while but may well be in a minority of 1. I think a European Super League would be a great thing for football. 1. 5. That's a different version of events to LJ saying he didn't want to play. Perhaps this version is from his agent, it certainly reads that way, and might suggest that Mr. 10% has failed to drum up enough interest himself so has now resorted to barely disguised "come and get me" ads in the national media. Never a good look for player or agent, but that's him finished at City.

  6. Could we terminate his contract? That’s quite expensive isn’t it? I don’t claim to know too much about how football finances work, but I wouldn’t be a proper supporter if I didn't make presumptuous sweeping statements

  9. I'll say what I always say on these threads. All of the clubs that make a Director of Football role work well - Barcelona, Real, Bayern etc. appoint a specialist Director of Football who wants to do that job, rather than someone who has never been a Director of Football and has shown no interest in the role but is interested in managing and could undermine the manager's job. If LJ ever left, Chris Hughton might be a good choice of manager. But Hughton has never been a Director of Football and there is no evidence he would want to do it or has the skills for it. Ditto Joe Jordan. If y

  10. "Ex-Prem" means nothing to me — football wasn't created in '92, a better stat is that we have competed in nine top flight seasons compared to Barnsley's one. They average about 8,000 less home fans than we do, their away support isn't as good as ours when you factor in mileage (see below, credit to SoutheySWFC from 1FF for the table), our ground holds about 4,000 more seats than theirs, the population of Bristol is over double that of Barnsley's so the potential of our fanbase is far greater as evidenced at Wembley when we take 42,000 for a JPT final and they managed less than what we ave

  13. Jesus Christ you spout some shit. I have spent years watching this club, do terrible deals on players both in and out of the club. Rarely have we had season on season improvement as we have over the last 5 years. Presumably it’s not fast enough for you and you think we should bankrupt ourselves and pay the stupid wages that other clubs pay? We have had those sort of players here before , and all they did was go downhill. I would say almost every player we have bought during Ashton’s time have improved themselves and the squad, and have a value on leaving. There will always be exceptions of cou

  14. I don't always agree with LJ , but I am pleased he does not feel there was progression this season. He is right , we got a few points more, scored a lot less. He also rightly points out that he needs 5 or 6 players that can jump to Prem level if promoted. He is right again even more. He should have a side built around Kelly, Reid, Bryan etc instead of selling them, and they must waste less on players that are never going to reach the required level, as ultimately those failed signings were a contributing factor to having to sell Reid and Bryan . Unpoplular to many, but those signings cost mon

  15. Lloyd Kelly becoming the third academy product in two years to be sold to the Premier League got me thinking about the relative performance and progress of the academy as a whole against the standard of the first team. For many years, our academy products generally struggled to break into our first team and the club failed to manage those who did (Rosenior). Most of our hot prospects ended up playing at League Two and occasionally League One level whilst the first team generally struggled at the top of League One and for a while at the middle and bottom of the Championship (leaving the 07

  16. Thank God that there is someone out there with the intelligence and insight to assess our future so succinctly.......................unfortunately that someone is most definitely not you, as you have absolutely no idea of LJ n' MA's plans, and nor do I. Your glib and arrogant assessment seems IMHO completely off target. We need to trust and and put faith in a management team that has made significant progress over the past few seasons, with a profitable and sensible transfer policy and upwardly mobile league position, until it is proved not to be the case? Your cheap sniping would be slight

  20. Isn't it funny that those who are so regularly anti LJ MA & SL, who vent their spleen after a loss ( often at just going a goal down- on here cos they don't actually go to matches) can find mega fault at selling a player who in all honesty hasn't really done much for us other than becoming our record transfer fee. We haven't really missed Bryan or Flint and I just can't think that Bobby would have made the difference between us getting into the Premier League which is ,in any event, increasingly looking like when not if.

  22. Likely to be a lengthy and boring read if you don't pay much attention to attendances in football, but I was having a discussion on the weekend with a Rovers fan who was speaking about their game with Barnsley on the final day. His claim was that Rovers raise their game when the "bigger" sides come to the Mem (without wanting to overrule his opinion on his own team, I was quick to point out that they lost at home to Sunderland and Pompey) and it had me thinking, if Barnsley are considered a draw in League One then are Bristol City, and if so is that reflected in the attendance figures at games

  23. I bumped into Steve Cotterill a few weeks ago and got chatting to him about City and his time at the club. He made it clear that SL failed to back him and sanction the transfers of Gayle and Gray after he had convinced them to join City in principle. He felt that the momentum following promotion would have given him a greater chance of a promotion push. I still think he feels bitter at what transpired that summer and the lack of signings was due to lack of backing from the club He got what he asked for when he built the league 1 promotion team but they wouldn’t back him on this occas

  30. Was speaking to Brian Tinnion recently at Senior Reds and he mentioned the same players as you who are ready to push for the first team next season. The future looks really bright at our academy. He also said it's easier for us to retain youngsters now with our facilities and pathway to the first team squad. He sounded really positive about the future and if anyone would know it would be him. Exciting times ahead methinks.

  32. Buy the club; lose a lot of money; sell the club is one option. Buy the club; lose a lot of money; sell the assets; wind-up the club is another. I wouldn't see any chance of success for any non fan-led acquisition of the 15ers largely because of the strength of the Bristol Sport business model which has been introduced by SL. He has control of the largest (by far) football team with the most well established academy, Premiership rugby team, Women's Football team and Basketball team. No doubt, over time we'll see the likes of field hockey, netball, ice hockey and other sports added to the

  35. Some ideas on that. Provided it's fair value and market rate...we could get each stand sponsored by an SL company or a company to which he is linked. Maybe HL one stand, his green energy interests another, his Botswana interests a further one. Same could go for training ground, whatever else is being built on the Wickes site- basically make sure is legally watertight with fair market rate and I see no reasons for trouble- have it independently assessed if necessary. It's if we vastly inflate there would be problems, but all that cash would help- every pound counts in this FFP time.

  36. What was our record sale for a player 5 years ago? How many players were we signing and selling for a larger amount then we signed them for? It may be easy to sell a player, but to get the amount of money he's getting for the players we're selling is the part where he's excelling.

  37. I don’t know. But you could say that about most threads on football message boards and I certainly do not agree this one is pointless. A lot of people do not understand how contracts and negotiations work in football, especially when clauses are in place, and so find it hard to be sure exactly how to interpret what is happening. It is utterly fair enough for someone to start a thread on it and I suspect many people will be interested in the discussion. I think you would do well to realise that the fact you do not see value in something necessarily means everyone else agrees with you.

  45. So your solution is to spend £30-40-50m is it? Just like Norwich did, just like Sheffield United did, just like Cardiff did. Oh hang on.... We have improved every year for five years now. Can’t you be happy at that? Look at the money Boro and Leeds have thrown at it. Villa have spent shed loads and have to try through the play offs again and needed to change their manager. Stoke’s squad is ridiculous and they finished nowhere. Be patient and for goodness sake try to enjoy it!
