  6. Part of the reason FFP was brought in was Platini (great footballer - awful administrator) wanting to break England’s dominance of the Champions League, allowing a French team a chance. Spain then dominated, but it is going full-circle with English clubs again. Platini couldn’t stop Sky, and PSG fail again. The lower league versions in this country, I'm not convinced have been rigorously applied either, and it’s all becoming a bit of a farce. If Gibson’s lawsuit fails to have any impact on the rules and Villa’s ground sale swells their coffers, then I think it’s time to admit defeat, and either accept there are those taking advantage of the rules and there are those who aren’t. Not sure where SL will sit...unchanged I suspect, playing by the rules....but expect FFP to die a death.

  7. Sorry mate I remember them as equals and sometimes superior (in terms of league position) Whilst I have plenty of gas mates I hope their club goes pop if only for the sake of young people yet to be born in the Bristol area who may have otherwise have been dragged down that shithole.

  8. Agree and key being that they soon realised it was worth nothing near given the change in the market. On residential development CIL/S106 can take as much as 40% of the enhanced value to the developer. I was once responsible for a B1 property with a book value of £12m which, when revalued for potential sui generis occupation, dropped to £7m. So a £12m book price stadium is likely to be worth far less as a residential land proposition.

  10. Probably not in my opinion, but good to get "game time" I guess. It didn't last too long either which is probably a bonus. I just hope that's how they perform on Saturday against Australia so that I can get out early and watch the Champions League Final.

  12. I think SL's position will remain unchanged in that he wants the club to be sustainable financially, regardless of FFP. I believe that is his priority above all else. If he had strong enough feelings about other clubs complying with FFP he would have supported Gibson at the EFL meeting. He didn't and neither did anybody else. If somebody like Steve is not prepared to stand up for the principle then FFP's death throes have already started.

  13. I agree with a lot of what you say. Especially about the business of football. I also think this issue won't go away though- a simple majority vote of the clubs, absolute democracy in action there. I just don't see the remaining 21, 22 clubs accepting the status quo, how on earth can they. More to the point, why should they? Maybe FFP will be scrapped in the Championship because letting 2-3 clubs get away with taking the piss is plainly untenable. People like to and rightly so slate FIFA and UEFA, but are our own football Governing bodies really much better?

  15. I seem to remember Hyatt being mentioned before in relation to the new AG development but can't find the article so may be wrong. But it makes sense with SL looking for a high end hotel plus a budget one (if there is such a thing in Bristol). It would be another stick to beat SL with

  16. Well let's hope so, the prospect of a 'Riot House, Ashton Gate' is rather a compelling one. Invoking the ill-behavior of yer Morrison/Moon/Page/Plant/Hendrix/Richards et al may not sit comfortably with the Bristol Sport image, but would be quite iconic for the kids on the street. I'd stay there.

  17. Part of me wishes they were in the same league as us and giving us some proper competition. love or hate it the 89/90 season it was brilliant the way we were swapping top spot some weeks and having a real interest on how they were getting on ill go and get a very heavy duty tin hat.....

  19. That will be superb. Despite the whole story in the BP being based on a misunderstanding they will automatically assume all sorts of underhand dealings have gone on between SL and Hyatt to deprive them of their rightful rewards. He will be called all sorts of nasty things and be accused for the millionth time of only doing something to thwart the blue few. I expect they`ll say they`re going to boycott Hyatt Hotels - not that any of them could afford to stay there even if they wanted to.

  20. Oh yeah, it was pathetic wasn’t it? ”ooh you really shouldn’t be in this division Sunderland, you’re so big and powerful, we love you so much Sunderland, please tell us you hate City Sunderland...you DO hate City don’t you? Please tell us you do”... Im sure they were planning to save that needy behaviour for Ipswich next season.

  23. Thoughts for today. There is more (semi) serious discussion of Rovers financial plight on OTIB than on Rovers’ forums because over the past 40 years fans with intellect have gradually drifted away from our club. Back in the 1970’s City and Rovers would have been fairly equal in terms of numbers of supporters with educational achievement and/or status in business and the Professions but now we are seriously deficient in this respect. The London office may serve a purpose unconnected with football but related to Middle Eastern politics.

  24. Could it I wonder lead to a chance the playoffs getting replayed- or is that too late in the day? Or Derby, indeed Aston Villa stripped of promotion and a playoff final between Leeds-WBA as a) The losing semi finalists b) The fact they complied c) The next 2 highest ranked compliant sides?
