  1. Not sure many on here would have known my dad, who passed away on the weekend at 82 years old, but nevertheless thought I’d share some City related memories. Charlie James – or Charlie Boy, as he called himself – lived during his childhood at Exeter Road, Southville, and spent a significant part of his time socialising in South Bristol where he lived most of his life. Dad was a City loyal. He often spoke about players from the early 50’s like Mike Thresher, Tony Cook and Alec Eisentrager, as well as the FA Cup game against Blackpool in 1959 which saw Sir Stanley Matthews play in fron

  2. Anyway, back to Webenbauer. I've been interviewing in the Midlands today for a new engineer. During the practical assessment, I like to have a chat where you find out about the bloke applying as they're generally relaxed when we get the tool kit out. ME: Football man? (always an easy ice breaker) Candidate: Yeah mate, big Villa fan. Who do you support? ME: Bristol City. Candidate: Your Manager hates us. ME: Our Manager hates everybody apart from us. Candidate: We're signing a bloke from you called Webster. ME: I doubt it, the figure quoted is about half

  3. I almost never respond to posts from this source these days, with good reason, and will probably live to regret doing so now, but I can't let this go without comment. I'm sorry, but this is absolute cobblers. It would not be humanly possible for any player to work "far harder" than Reid did in his final season at City. As hard, perhaps, but harder, no. The scoring comparison, fair enough. But both players have fantastic stamina and are tremendous grafters; it is absurd to suggest that one is so far ahead of the other in terms of effort. Cue unsolicited critique of my writing style an

  4. It was a decent defence. The key is recruiting Kalas and retaining Webster. We knew that at the season's end and nothing has changed in that regard. DaSilva would be a big bonus. Kelly was inconsistent for me and isn't a huge loss. Money from that sale will clearly be made available to replace him. We could end up with a better player than him i.e. DaSilva, who will cost considerably less than £13m. It's also worth remembering though that the main area we need to strengthen in is upfront. We need a goal scorer or two before the start of the season. We've money in the bank and time o

  6. Well that has to be one of the most negative things I’ve ever read . You're the part of this fan base that I hate tbh, can’t ever see a positive. Always looking to hate on the club, literally any excuse to have a go you get a thrill from. Honestly it’s strange ffs we’re in a great position, we’re improving year on year. Have great young manager who loves the club and just signed a new long term deal. We’re a club on the up for sure, it’s bloody 19th June ffs it’s no where near panic stations. transfer business wise just because we haven’t announced players yet (who most of them our on there

If I got everything right then my mate would prob be in real shit... sometimes he lets slip there looking into people but I’m sure his job isn’t looking at just one target, I know all year he travels around U.K. n Europe doing there tests and scouting I guess.... if I see him and say we’re after hogan for example he will just laugh n say he doesn’t talk about work...sometimes he will say other things(usually after a drink and me bombarding him) and again usually there hot or miss... if I hear anymore I will post... all I was told was he was a serious target, city will speak to him, weather he

  8. Considering our defence was a key strength last year I don't know how anyone could not be worried by the possibility of losing Kalas, Webster, Kelly and DaSilva. Replacing those four is a huge challenge that could easily go wrong.

  9. I think this season is our chance Alot of teams are strugglnig financially or with FFP. We've had lots of transfer income the last few seasons plus 13m from the kelly deal already. With a very good squad already - we need a good summer of transfer business, because many of our rivals wont be able to spend. I''m very hopeful for the coming season.

  10. If you are worried about that then I suggest you need to get out more. Better still, forget about football for a few weeks and come back at the end of July to properly assess our transfer dealings.

  11. Between this World Cup and the nations league I am very close to losing faith in the ‘professional game’. Having played in goal to a decent level, you cannot stand rooted to your line. It’s impossible. To get booked for attempting to dive, which then means you are now very close to getting sent off if you do it again, pathetic. What the **** is going on? It’s a game, you cannot legislate everything by VAR. The game has gone to bollocks.

  12. It is becoming increasingly the case that teams that perform well in the Championship get their best players taken by rich Prem clubs and so on down the divisions . If you don’t go up in that one golden season then you have to start all over again without your established key players . This doesn’t improve the level of football played because players don’t have enough time to become a team. Individualism is taking over the sport . We will never see a City team promoted that have played together for years like the famous Alan Dick’s promotion side .

  13. Knighty, keep posting i enjoy reading who we are looking at. I beleive that you have a mate on the inside, dont worry about the keyboard warriors. You have always said that some will come off and some will not, Johnson and Ashton have said more than once that we are always on the look out.

  15. City fans have a right to be confused and concerned about the achievements of our club. On the one hand, we are apparently doing very well. Attendance's are the best for many decades, we're seeing some real quality players in the red and purple shirts, players we have reared are being sold for amounts that are very large and to many older fans, incredibly big. Finishing position in the league has improved in each of the last four season's. Yet on the other side, we have sat on our hands in the last two January windows, allowing others to grab the annual honeypot. I want us to ac

  17. Ok, I’ll bite. Weimann’s only a year older. Who’s had the better career? AW has played for Villa, Watford, Wolves, Derby and us. He has scored a total of 41 goals in 270 appearances and has 14 caps for his country. Reid has scored 34 goals in 203 appearances and has turned out for us, Cardiff, Plymouth, Cheltenham and Oldham. I’m possibly being slightly facetious here, but Weimann has spent his career in the top two levels, whilst Reid spent a fair whack of time in League One or lower and only really hit it off for one, arguably two, seasons. It’s not absurd for people to

  21. Bottom line is - If Webster wants to go then he will. He has been great - and that form really does translate to Prem quality. He is near his prime with 8-9 earning years ahead of him barring a career ending injury. Why would he stay here because we "might" get promoted - and at this stage Kelly,Kalas JDS and Palmer don't play for us - plus we lost Mo...... When he could go to the Prem's worse team, earn 4x as much and if he keeps up this form will be signed by a better Prem team the following year? If a Prem team comes in - he's gone. No

  22. Driving up the M6 yesterday through the roadworks near Stafford I noticed they were using purple and lime bollards at works traffic access points. I can only conclude someone involved is a City fan because there is no other plausible explanation. Has anyone else seen purple and lime combinations in unexpected locations? Ps Apologies that I am so bored with the lack of City related football news it has come to this.

  26. Agree with @Riaz I am convinced this is going to be our big season. The financial constraints have loosened on us now, and we have the core of at least a top 10 side. We know where we need to add the quality, and that is before the bonus of an unsung hero stepping up that we never saw coming

  29. No-one is panicking young man. I suggest you re-read it when the Horlicks has worn off. Are you honestly trying to say nobody will be in for Webster? And all the Chelsea players are going to sign at some point? I'm merely pointing out that: 1) There are no guarantees any loanee wants to sign 2) There is a good chance Webster and maybe others will be off if a Prem club comes in 3) The last 2 Jan windows were very poor. 4) LJ has said he expects to be backed - if he only gets a small budget - do YOU think he will stay? 5) Where (NOT WHEN) will the re

  31. I agree with you - Weimann has played over 300 games and has only ever played in the top two divisions in this country. Reid has had one good season and has played more games in league two than the premier league - before his one-off good season with us Reid had never scored more than 3 goals in a season and he had only scored 6 goals in 63 championship appearances. If Reid wasn’t a Bristolian, or hadn’t played for us, there is no way people would be saying he was better than Weimann ...

  33. Not unless you want to crowd-fund me €89pm and pay for me to take some training This is the best I can do with my cheapie subscription. Reid 17/18 season heatmap: Weimann 18/19 heatmap: Suggests Reid the Duracell bunny, Weimann using regular AAAs! But we played a different style across seasons, and the above does not reflect running without the ball. So I wouldn’t be drawing too many conclusions. We’d need access to City’s data.

  40. We have just moved but still in Norn Iron. I finally realised when discussing kitchen/diner planning, how much that team from BS3 has affected me. We had to choose tile splashbacks plus blinds. Because my wife is registered blind we have to have plenty of light plus contrast so what little she can see will help. I suggested purple tiles and blinds which will offset beautifully the white and grey kitchen units/floor. Mrs Norn Iron (who was born here- I am what they call a 'blow-in') thought that was a great colour choice and agreed that the purple dining chairs we saw in a local shop wer

  41. Some valid points here, however it is nonsense to suggest Bristol City / Bristol Sport makes a profit. The club is spending more on salaries alone than generates in turnover, so given FFP the only way the club can invest in new players is to sell when appropriate and get the right fee. If Webster wants go then in the end he will, the financial gulf to the bottom of the prem is so big then money will talk. The positive is that City could demand a massive fee given his contract situation, given the Kelly fee I would suggest at least £15m plus would be a starting point Basically trying

  43. Plus Henry doesn’t gloat about it, pass it off as the “hand of god” or try to justify it as vengeance from a war..! Henry also isn’t a drug induced, alcoholic, violent criminal. Henry messed up, big time - but otherwise was a pretty decent role model who maximised his potential. Maradona was/is a manual manipulator who didn’t make the most of his talent. Having said that, it’s actually incredible to think how good he could have been, if he had applied himself properly..!

  46. Doesn't matter. From reading OTIB I can only assume that not signing anyone today will relegate us to the Western League, and if no one is signed tomorrow then the world will end. On top of that we'll get a 400 point deduction and our entire squad will be given a 12 month ban from football as well as the club being put under an embargo.
