  1. Spot on mate ... those clueless plonkers have even called me a ‘glory hunter’ for supporting ‘da shit’ - their faces look like a gurning competition between Peter Beardsley, Iain Dowie and Phil Jones when I calmly explain that growing up, by the age of 15 I had watched City in all four divisions ... we reached the heights then plummeted quickly to the depths - the ‘famous’ quarters were a division above us when we sank to the bottom of div 4 and were at our lowest ebb - yeh, what a glory hunter! Then Sir Terrence Cooper picked us up by the scruff of the neck and gave every ounce of everything he had to get us back! And when we dicked the squatting vultures 1-2 in the FA Cup in Dec ‘83 we were still a div below them - but how important was that result?! It gave us everything back - a smile on our faces, a bit of pride, a team that often moved me to tears with their spirit and sheer bloody determination and the knowledge that we’d just dumped the gloating northerners out of the cup on their own patch not long after they’d tried to steal dear old Ashton Gate when we were on our knees ... Glory hunter? My arse ...

  2. Very sad about Stuart, never heard a bad word about the man, even if he was a blue ?. He had been suffering from degenerative brain disease for several years and went down hill fast, ended up just a shadow of his former self. Never diagnosed as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (once known as punch drunk syndrome), but surely no coincidence given his occupation, playing style and the footballs of old, as the family of Jeff Astle are only too aware and of which Geoff Twentyman has highlighted, to his credit. The sooner that this condition is officially recognised the better, especially by the likes of the FA and Premier League, who need to financially and morally support the many ex pro’s and their families through what is a debilitating and often, fatal syndrome. RIP big man, from all sides of Bristol.

  3. You probably won't remember this Bert ?, but, one Autumn Sunday afternoon back in the late 1960s/very early 1970s, a year or two before you died if I remember correctly, together with a Rovers supporting friend of mine I went out collecting conkers in the fields near to your lovely house in Frenchay - obviously, I didn't know at that time you lived there. Unfortunately, my over-enthusiastic Rovers friend decided, somewhat unwisely as it turned out, to throw a rather large branch in to one of the conker trees, and when, unsurprisingly, the branch fell back down, it did so via his head, resulting in lots of blood and tears. We made our way to one of the afore-mentioned houses to seek assistance and the charming lady who answered the door to your house, said she would ask her husband to attend to us and called out to you to help. Fortunately, and despite me singing for this on many occasions, you had not gone to Vietnam, and drove my friend and I to the A&E ward of the nearby Frenchay hospital, from where you telephoned my friend's parents and waited until they arrived to take care of their son. I never really got the chance before, but should now like to thank you and apologise for spoiling your Sunday afternoon so many years ago.

  4. I was about 10 or 11 years old at the time and a mad keen City fan. The late Stuart Taylor used to provide some part-time coaching for our boys team, the majority of whom were Rovers fans, and, knowing I was a City fan, he used to tease me along the lines that he used to play for City, but left them because they were not very good and decided to join Rovers - cue laughter and more teasing from my teammates. Given my age at the time, coupled by the fact I was probably in awe of him, I am sure I would most likely have believed him had he told me that, not only did he play for City, but that he actually scored more goals than the late, great John Atyeo. The reason I mentioned the fact he used to play for City was simply that, reminiscing about the demise of a local sportsman, a wonderful gentleman and, from my personal experience, a man who gave up a lot of his free time to coach me and my young teammates, I recalled something he told me 50 years ago. I am sorry if I confused the true facts of his early playing career, but perhaps I had just a little tear in my eyes when I was posting.

  8. Unfortunately, Stuart Taylor, a long-serving centre half for our blue friends during the late 1960s and 1970s has passed away. Many of the younger posters on this thread will probably never have heard of him, but I had the pleasure of meeting him on more than one occasion, and I can assure you all he was a most charming man, a perfect gentleman. Believe it or not, Stuart actually started his career playing for Bristol City. RIP.

  10. You are right of course, and I'm sorry about that, but I was extremely tickled by the connections to be made between the main players in Lavignac Securities Ltd, who seem to have come to the remarkable conclusion that Rovers would be a good fit for the Fruit Market Stadium, and the Marx Bros movie "At The Circus". I got a bit carried away. However, I would like to say how touching it has been to read the tributes on here to Stuart Taylor. The experiences which have been relayed of Stuart are clearly genuine and sincere which says a lot about our rivalry when a perception has grown up that the blue and red sides of town hate each other with a vengeance which is something I have never believed.

  12. Your recent posts Bert, have been pointless. Most of us have no idea about the groups involved, so being cryptic is of no use to us tbh. If you have something to say, just put it in plain English. Perhaps start by naming both groups and the companies involved. Just a thought.

  14. I was at that match. Fa cup replay about 1966 ish. 0-0 draw at Ashton gate. Replay at Easrville the following Tuesday. 40,000 at Ashton, 35000 at Eastville 3 days later. Taylor scored for rovers in the 1st half then Crowe and Macamoyle ( crap spelling) scored for City we won 1-2. decent player was Stuart Taylor, a proper Rovers player in the days of players staying with a club for many years. Rest easy big man.

  15. My wife has always hated David Platt, I have no idea why other than she says he looks like the type of man that “would eat a baby”. If he takes over the 15ers then I’ll go along with her assessment.

  24. A plan is coming together, just like the last one and the one before. The club still have a non league mentality and treat their dwindling fan base like mushrooms. Keep em in the dark and occasionally feed em s##t. It's been like that for years and I doubt it will get any better.

  31. Is this one of those tricky pub quiz questions where we will find out that Alan Brazil once went between the sticks when he played for Ipswich and someone who then went on to play for Rovers scored. Or did Neymar get a great price on a chicken hutch...

  32. Bristol Sport do....and have done for some time it looks like. The announced deal they were on about was a renewal of the partnership where they supply fresh produce to the Bears and Flyers. But we all know the Sags don't like to let little things like facts get in the way of anything. https://www.bristol-sport.co.uk/news/bristol-sport-team-up-with-total-produce-foodservice/

  34. It's a sad indictment to today's society when a story like this makes national news headlines. Colleen Rooney is as shallow as they come, what normal wife would put up with their husband shagging prostitutes, caught drunk driving another woman's car to her place and taking another woman to his hotel room in another country and that's just what he's been caught doing. She's only stayed with him for the money and to stay in the limelight.

  35. What is it with those paranoid little shitwipes thinking that anything BCFC related and especially SL are all out to derail their next cunning plans to overtake the shit? As if SL really gives those ??’s a second thought. Slagchat as per..... If Richardson doesn’t plan on building a ground like the original rumoured lot that are trying to buy the Fruit Market site, then Wael should say no. Also I wouldn’t be surprised if Pantsdown is helping delay the buyout, seem all bit too much of a coincidence, the sh** announcing a partnership with Total produce the day after news broke about the Fruit Market. Just saying.

  36. That was quite funny, and seing AJ dismantled was a fascinating watch. Off on a tangent...As much as I think WWE is a pathetic excuse for entertainment, I think Fury doing it is a PR masterstroke, and his profile in the US will get a massive boost. He's a bigger name over there than Joshua already (I reckon) and he'll sell more PPV with this stunt. He's great at schoolboy amateur dramatics too so is probably doing a better job that half the wrestlers. If Fury can keep winning I can see him being a bigger hit (pun intended) than any of the big British names of recent decades.
