  1. Don’t know if this is real? Looks genuine, hilarious if so. Shows his opinion deep down about the club he now plays for. Could’ve used many different examples but picked Bristol ? Just shows how they are viewed by others outside the City....despite what terrified opposition fans tell them when they’re cornered in ‘the Welly’ by needy, dribbling Sags.

  2. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/club-president-wael-al-qadi-3427464 A bit of truth from wally. "The Gas president argued that over-investment would pose a serious risk to the future of the club and felt the wealth of his family had been overstated when he took charge."

  3. In true Bristolian / West Country / BCFC fashion, I just can't be arsed with running for hours on end. It's such a bloody effort! And requires so much enthusiasm. I much prefer my own take on high(ish) intensity interval training whereby you get much of the benefits of hours plodding the pavements in a much reduced amount of time (thereby freeing up time to then slouch on the sofa, eating cake and browsing otib, which requires much less effort and is more suited to the natural Bristolian / West Country disposition). I like to get the old fast-twitch fibres firing and stoke the growth hormones with a quick dash up an incline, hill, set of stairs, escalators at shopping centre, vomitories at football stadium, or such like. The Lansdown Upper, Christmas Steps, Jacob's Ladder steps Falmouth (if it were on me doorstep), I do love a flight of steps. My 14 year old early this year beat me in a short dash for the first time, so that's the end of that. I won't be quicker than him again. I might still be able to beat him over the long haul but I can't be bothered with that. He probably couldn't either. So, it's short bursts of reasonably high intensity for me, followed by the all important "intervals" which are critically important, and longer in duration.

  4. I hate running with a passion but enjoy taking part in events. I've done 3 halfs and a 10k. I'm always near the back but for me the achievement is finishing the race, for me it's all about the bling and that sheer adrenaline rush of crossing that finishing line. I am signed up to do the Dublin Marathon this year, my first marathon, however I am pulling out. I started my training well and did the Bristol 10k, I then switched to the gym and the treadmill to continue my training for convenience reasons, I did the Swansea half and had real trouble completing it due to having extreme pain in my calves. I think it was all the pounding the treadmill that did them in. I'm devastated to be pulling out as I feel like a failure but the Swansea half had really affected me as a runner I spent a little while running with during the race passed away before the finish line. That has made me realise just how dangerous competing is and it's put me off for the time being. It took my calves a good 6-8 weeks for them to recover so I decided it would be wise to not do the Dublin Marathon and give myself a full year to prepare for it. Was hoping to get a London place but again no luck in the ballot. This year has been an incredibly tough year for me, I've had numerous bereavements, life has changed forever but doing the Bristol 10k and Swansea half really did help, it gave me something to focus on and for me it was a part of the grieving process.

  5. No, that was the following year. In Jan 2013 we were a very poor Championship club heading back to L1 under the cheerful guidance of Sean O’ Driscoll. Makes the tweet (if real) even funnier.

  7. Exactly my normal 5 miles: Snug Harbour > Bypass > North Sound loop. Rinse and repeat until you want to kill yourself through monotony. When I was training with some friends we would do an out and back course and share water drops.

  10. I started running 7 years ago my sons school had a 5k fun run and I though why not. Someone then mentioned just after to me about Little Stoke parkrun and I've been running ever since on and off although need a race to keep me really motivated. Done 170 parkruns, load of 10k's, 5 half marathons and 2 full including London. I'm a bit of a boring runner never been into that race buzz to me its just another race although to be fair who can argue with the atmosphere at London. I'd love to run abroad but its difficult when you try and plan something when you have a family and family holidays. I'm probably about average 1h44 half 3h57 for London marathon. I think anybody can do it if they put their mind to it health issues permitting, the key with a marathon to me was the training put the miles in and its not as daunting on the day as it could be. My advice to any newbies, give up your gym membership get off the treadmill and run anywhere. If you haven't got a parkrun near you there are loads of social groups on Facebook (such as Lonely Goat) and the like springing up so you don't need to join a club. I now run every Thursday with a few people who live near me who set up a Facebook running group no fees and turn up when you want nobody judges anybody its great. Strava is another good free tool to keep the spirits up and getting the right footwear is a massive boost as is developing some exercises for your core its now all about your legs! Good luck to everyone going forward with their running..

  11. That's a tough weekly target with the weather changing, but that'll just make it all the more satisfying if you get there.

  13. I run for fitness. Do Parkruns regularly and have done 10ks onow and then. I'm an utterly terrible runner - I've got a heart condition and an impairment that affects my coordination so I'm never going to be fast but I do manage to keep going. Furthest I've ever done in non-racing is about 13km. Quite fancy trying a half marathon at one point but not anywhere near it at the moment. But I find running good for me physically and psychologically and, having always been absolute last in any running event in school, it's actually quite confidence building to have finished a 10k about two thirds through the pack...

  14. Well maybe we can keep the thread alive with updates. I'll be interested to hear how @formerly known as ivan@CyderInACanget on working towards running a half marathon and @Up The City! towards the Marathon next year.

  15. Nice thread! I've only just starting running just for general fitness, I only ever used a treadmill but now started some routes outside near where I live around 5km but gradually hoping to increase this. As someone else said I use the free version of Strava which is really good for recording times and intervals and makes you want to go back out there and beat those.

  16. Sorry to dispel the illusion, that picture shows a ground with rows of seats, not garden furniture! ?

  17. ? Interesting- seems Leeds owner turned down the whole suing of the EFL thing, despite an offer by Gibson to join the case. Said he agreed in principle but wanted to focus mainly on the football. I've got a set of sanctions in mind if any valuations were significantly overstated line and tests for sanctions which I'll post later. Another interesting story is that Derby are for sale for £60m apparently- well it's a story anyway. I wonder if it would include the ground- because if it does...serious questions to answer there IMO.

  19. As part of the 7 continents achievement it requires running one on Antarctica. I think there are at least 3 organised races there at present. Mine involved a 10 day cruise from Argentina. Really was trip of lifetime stuff.

  20. Not been able to do one for a bit, but have run 18 marathons in the past decade, including one on each continent and all 6 majors. Not terribly quick: PBs 1h47 for the half and 3h55 for the full. Hoping to get back to it in the new year. I watched Eliud's run this morning: phenomenal stuff, notwithstanding the way it was executed. Great times for both.

  22. You’re on moderator preview (and have been for a couple of weeks now) because of the load of complaints we had about you after your recent comments amongst other things about your fellow fans. It’s easier for us mods and admin, who are all but one doing this on a voluntary basis, than dealing with piles of complaints. Prove you can post sensibly for a while and we’ll look at removing the restriction.

  23. I found a stream of their game today and watched a bit of it. While MK were absolutely shocking, the sags played some reasonable stuff for L1 but are miles away from being anywhere near Championship standard. Some passing actually on the ground but still a fair bit of aerial stuff. Naff all up front and I would say they won't score enough to stay near the top 6. MK were really, really bad but I guess you can only beat what's in front of you but getting just 1 against that shower would worry me if I were a methane snorter. Oh yeah, I thought my tele was broken as I had to check the sound was still working, it was so quiet.

  25. I guess there’s two sides to this: the companies house official accounts FFP submission for 1. All the accounting principles can be followed legally. for 2. It seems like there is quite a big grey area.

  26. Spot on mate ... those clueless plonkers have even called me a ‘glory hunter’ for supporting ‘da shit’ - their faces look like a gurning competition between Peter Beardsley, Iain Dowie and Phil Jones when I calmly explain that growing up, by the age of 15 I had watched City in all four divisions ... we reached the heights then plummeted quickly to the depths - the ‘famous’ quarters were a division above us when we sank to the bottom of div 4 and were at our lowest ebb - yeh, what a glory hunter! Then Sir Terrence Cooper picked us up by the scruff of the neck and gave every ounce of everything he had to get us back! And when we dicked the squatting vultures 1-2 in the FA Cup in Dec ‘83 we were still a div below them - but how important was that result?! It gave us everything back - a smile on our faces, a bit of pride, a team that often moved me to tears with their spirit and sheer bloody determination and the knowledge that we’d just dumped the gloating northerners out of the cup on their own patch not long after they’d tried to steal dear old Ashton Gate when we were on our knees ... Glory hunter? My arse ...
