38 years ago today the Ashton Gate Eight saved our club. As we challenge once more for promotion to English football’s highest division I guess it’s appropriate to take a minute to be grateful we actually have a club to support. Whatever the rights and wrongs of what preceded the events that unfolded, these men should rightly forever remain in the consciousness of all City fans for what they did. Thankyou. COYR https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38750475 and who could forget this iconic image from that era too38 points

That moment you describe there was reality crashing through the reinforced concrete walls of lies, certainty and delusion. Decades of it. Momentarily, a (small) crowd of poorly dressed people collectively see themselves for what they really are. There is no hiding place. No delusion to escape to and bask in. At that eerie, silent moment, none of the usual lies, the bollocks, the bullshit and delusion work anymore - all that was swept away, leaving only truth and reality. This is what we are: non-league shite.5 points

@Shtanley interview with Jonathan Pearce was a real eye opener. I appreciate he has his biases, but certainly a perspective on the club and despite all the money pumped into shiny new assets, the lack of anything in recognition of what these, many now poor, players did for us.4 points

The footage didn’t seem to catch it , but on the final whistle there was a deep silence, really eerie looking back . Lots of genuine football fans deeply upset, and a few idiots that got all the publicity unfortunately2 points

Not for you maybe, but a great day for the majority of football fans in Bristol ?2 points

#garnerin Garnerin was actually a French balloonist who invented the parachute so; "Up, up and away" followed by "jump for your life" Sounds like the perfect man for the job.2 points

Is this the same Niki that was up there with being one of our players of the season? If Championship clubs were to of come in for those young un’s you’ve mentioned do you really think that they’d of turned them down in favour of going to a club who have to scrape the dog shit off their pitch before they can train? Highly doubtful. Also If Garner was as good as you and others think he is then he wouldn’t be at a shite little club like them and unable to even win a game since he’s been there.2 points

This should have been marked by the club today, I went to Newport thinking it may be the last time ever watching City as a league club, times have changed but this should never be forgotten.1 point

Agreed. I guess The Robins aren’t that bothered about the past when there’s no money to be made from it?1 point

Good interview with Gerry Sweeny here. I remember the Dragonara Hotel on Redcliffe Way, just after the now much missed flyover! https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ashton-gate-eight-revisited-bristol-24531881 point

As I have previously stated a number of times, there were no city fans in the Mansfield end .1 point

Exactly. Do they really have to rely on intimidating tactics to try to get a win. It does seem very amateur. No doubt teams do try and get the upper hand on eachother psychologically, I wonder if Lee’s grass measuring is a subtle way of unsettling the opposition as much as what we gain out of doing so. But to actually tell ( threaten) the opposition certainly smacks of desperation and isn’t sporting or in the spirit of the game. I wouldn’t like to think we involve ourselves in this stuff.1 point

Positively poetically put! Sadly, or hilariously, the delusion has returned in an even more virulent form than before. In evidence, I offer the fact that they believe what Wael tells them and that, despite the chasm between the clubs in every respect, they really think they are coming for us.1 point

“Poor cross-town relations” ... what a fantastic comparison of da gas with Liam Walsh’s parent club! Great journalism! And knowing that lot even the fact that Cov have a manager called Robins would have wound them up! And he played for us! Edit: apologies, I see @Vincent Vega has already highlighted this ...1 point

He spends every waking hour in his leather swivel chair with a white cat on his lap dreaming up new ways to thwart the s*gs in their quest for their rightful place in football`s hierarchy. Mwahahahaha!1 point

The Cov. Telegraph didn’t hold back on their assessment of the gash, least the footballing world is finding out what we’ve known for decades ?1 point
