What a mind-numbingly pointless comment.7 points

Yes, it has. In the absence of a vaccine the only way of fully containing a virus spreading is to quarantine. This is fairly basic stuff... Yes. Yes, we do.5 points

Was listening to Piers Moron this morning, what a complete tool. Scaremongering of the highest order and wanting all the big futile gestures rather that a pragmatic approach. Pity our media can’t get as worked up about the deaths due to DWP reforms and austerity.5 points

Surely there is more likelihood of games behind closed doors rather than all out cancellations, in any case?5 points

A report from The Southend News Network Hospitals in Southend On Sea in Essex have been moved to ‘Black Alert’ this evening after hundreds of local people died of shock at the news that Southend United had finally won a game. As soon as it was confirmed that The Shrimpers had overcome the footballing behemoth that is Bristol Rovers by three goals to one, 999 operators were swamped with phone calls reporting the casualties. One witness said, ‘Nobody could quite believe what they were seeing.’ ‘Like all good Southend United fans who live within a five-minute walk of the ground, I was watching my beloved West Ham on some sort of illegal streaming service and watching the goal alerts from Roots Hall come flying in, when all of a sudden I looked out of the window and there were people lying on the floor all over the place.’ ‘Sol Campbell should be given the freedom of the town for this achievement. No idea why he would want it because I wouldn’t personally wander around it freely after 4pm, but it’s a monumental feat of footballing excellence none the less.’ It’s been an excellent week for the club, with the three points coming straight after the club announced that planning permission for the proposed new stadium at Fossetts Farm has reached the final, ultimate, never-to-be-repeated, terminal, rubber-stamped, don’t tell the Revenue or Sainsbury’s stage. United were hit with yet another ‘Winding Up’ order on Monday, mainly because the owner can’t f*cking stop winding the fans up.5 points

Am I the only person who couldn't give a crap about the virus? Honestly, people live and die, what's the big deal? Saw a guy today wearing a face mask at school to collect his kids, almost laughed my socks off!!4 points
-
Would be hilarious if he takes them down, then we organise an open topped bus parade through Kingswood and swamp the high street with red and white.4 points

I'm surprised certain measures haven't been taken, but I believe the government are being guided by the Chief Medical Officer. Really not helpful to have political points scoring on this thread.4 points

I suggest you remove your head from your bottom. I also suggest you research the results of the tory imposed austerity on the UK population, particularly Duncan Smiths pet policy of UC. The information is widely available and confirms that the tories are a callous bunch of bastards.4 points

Is it just me who wonders why footballers have been told not to shake hands pre match, but rugby players can ruck and scrum for 80 minutes? Am I missing something4 points

Sounds very very poor from Piers. I would have expected better.3 points

I just think people need to believe in beating the virus more. After all, this seems to be the strategy for leaving the EU.3 points

Even third world countries like Ghana and Cambodia are screening people. Absolutely bizarre approach from the government. Almost like they're incompetent3 points

A quote from an interview with Ben Garner in The Football League paper yesterday on moving the club forward "it's like when your building a house, you've got to put the foundations in place, you don't want a tent that's going to blow over in the wind" has he not taken in his surroundings at home games ? ????3 points

319 only detected. How many people are in self isolation and not in the figures. I personally think we will never know the true number of how many people were infected, for 80% of people get mild conditions so will not bother the doctor or hospital.2 points

They must still be the 6th richest club in the world then... They haven't spent anything.2 points
-
OK, 319 out of 20000 is 1.6% So, if that infection rate is applied to the whole UK population of 60 MILLION then 960k are going to get it. If you apply a mortality rate of 1% then 9600 will sadly die but that is pretty much on a par with the number of deaths from various strains of influenza each year and this is largely unreported.2 points
-
I think we all said that when they dropped into the Conference Yep, its unlikely.........2 points
-
Again.....skewing facts by using unrelated figures. Whilst it's not incorrect to say 319 cases confirmed out of a population of 67 million, the more accurate description of the fact is that it's actually 319 cases confirmed out of approximately 20,000 people tested. It's like saying that if you were to hold a poll on here about whether you wanted Rovers to go bust and 100% of 50 voters said yes, then the Rovers fans would be able to say "yeah, but it's only 50 people out of 67 million in this country - everyone else obviously loves us"! You're basically applying gas logic to your argument!2 points

I love how you put these two sentences in the same post.2 points

Surely just having to pull on "da quarters" and walk out into the worst stadium in the football league would be enough to make you angry? Maybe that's why he is the best form of his career?2 points

I was listening to Radio 5 late last night, and there was a call with a couple from Scotland who had that night flown from Milan to Edinburgh, and claimed they had faced no checks on the drive from Lombardy to Milan-Malpensa or on arrival into the UK. It was established that the advice on Public Health England contradicted that on the Scottish equivalent: the former advised all passengers arriving from the region self-isolate, the latter advised only if coming from a level-1 risk area (which they had not). Not a good sign of overall management if even those bodies can't get on the same page.2 points

Time for the three word soundbite. 'Beat the virus', or some such. And if that fails, blame immigrants/claimants/the EU - that usually works...2 points

Doesn't help when you've got a part-time Prime Minister who isn't exactly renowned for his work ethic or attention to detail. Third world countries like Cambodia and Ghana are already screening people coming back into their respective countries. We're letting thousands of people fly back into the country from infected areas with no checks whatsoever.2 points

So world stock markets are crashing and there’s a global epidemic of epic proportion but all of that gloom is quickly lifted by the revelations that somewhere, an individual has been playing Wears Wally and that JCH is a bastard. What a great start to the week! Thank you OTIB!2 points

Yep...especially as we are allowing people to fly into the UK from affected areas of Italy and pretty much do as they like ...2 points
-
The thing I don’t understand is this. Yes, the situation is not as bad here currently. But Italy have taken drastic measures - first shutting down specific towns, and now a whole region. Given our tactics are currently limited to advice on basic hygiene, what reason do we have to believe there won’t be a similar escalation in cases here?2 points

Due to go to Milan in April which is going into shut down till 3rd April. The speed of the spread of infection is worrying here so I can understand some are concerned. People saying fatalities are only the weak or old are missing the point. We all know and have these type of people in our families.2 points

I've seen them play better gigs, but I think that was more to do with the venue than the band. Not disappointed with the set list however, obviously we'll all have a few favourites from their back catalogue that never got played, but there was a good mix of tunes.1 point

Oops, just crashed the main forum with this! Thought the mention of Trevor Tainton justified it. Thanks Dave for the pointer to this thread. Amazing how many posters from the forum were there! Testament to the quality of the band I suggest. Personally I thought the band were on great form last night. I’m probably in the minority in saying that I love the new stuff more than the old. Long may they continue!1 point

Just to add to this - having admittedly made a less than helpful contribution to this discussion earlier (apologies @Riaz etc) - that people should also be respected for making their own personal choices in response to this. Nobody should be criticised for not going to a particular event or adjusting their daily lives in whichever way they see fit, in my view, because everyone has their own reasons for doing so. Many, many people also suffer with anxiety and other mental health issues and their response, while seeming over the top, may just be what they consider proportionate within their own personal circumstances. A relative of mine who suffered from severe anxiety and eventually took their own life as a consequence likely would’ve responded to this in a way many in this thread would be regarding as ridiculous or, indeed, panicky. So, please, advise, discuss and converse but don’t pretend to be an expert and always be kind and respectful because we are all entitled to react in whatever way makes us feel comfortable and at ease. Just wanted to add some balance.1 point

I hear the entire Rovers away support on Saturday have been quarantined for fear of spreading the virus. He was quoted as being "very concerned"...1 point
