  1. Haven't they suffered enough? We all know what our form is like after an extended break.

  4. I would like to see us give out all hospitality packages to NHS staff for our first game back at home.

  5. Half of it to the taxman - which helps pay for the NHS and other essential services. Probably 10% to your agent. And the rest squirreled away as you try and earn enough in a short career to support yourself for the rest of your natural in comfort. Might get lucky and have years on top money, might be unlucky and forced to retire just as you make it and are looking for employment in no time.

  6. But everyone else isn't suffering. I am able to work from home, on full pay. Appreciate that life must be really rough if you aren't in that position and hopefully the measures put in place go some way towards helping.

  7. M49!Yes he does do hospitality sometimes. I've also seen him Going into the ground /turnstiles with all the other fans. I watched him from the time he made his debut to his injury v Stoke/Shilton and his unsuccessful comeback attempt v Birmingham. Hugely talented player, strong, fast, hard shot, brilliant in the air, and didn't allow himself to be bullied or intimidated by some brutal monster centre halves who would today be red carded within 10 minutes of every ko........and only 22/23 when he had to quit so huge potential. As stated in the thread his treatment was badly handled by the club and each day he ran up and down the Dolman steps in excruciating agony. - and did it because he was told that was the best "rehab" and all he wanted was to pull on the red shirt again - it was actually making his injury worse each day......sports science was non existent then and he'd probably have got the same bad treatment wherever he played. A £50M player in today's game. To think in 1976 we had so much talent that came through the youth/reserve team : Cheesley Merrick Gow Ritchie Whitehead Collier Fear etc and now despite the millions spent on the academy and the £70M spent by LJ on 50+ players we have never produced any players as talented!

  8. I think we should find loads of other companies that lose at least 10 million a year and ask them to donate one of their major sources of revenue. Personally, I'd like British Steel to give every NHS worker a girder. Get the idea that it would be lovely to give key workers some sort of reward after this is over, but I think a dose of realism might need to be applied. It isn't just the NHS, it's volunteers, supermarkets, retail banking staff, deliver drivers, those running food banks, Deliveroo cyclist.... the list goes on. All of these people to one degree or another put themselves on offer every time they go to work. And it isn't the responsibility of football to be providing the reward on their own.

  9. It’s an odd one, sometimes I think he is a grade A cock, then I read something else from him and he gets it spot on. He’s having a rant about millionaires trying to get bailouts for their football clubs on Twitter. Personally, if a club is paying all it’s staff, then I have no issue in the players getting full whack, but if they are expecting low paid staff to manage on 80% salary, or their club get a tax payers bailout, I think the players could at least show some solidarity.

  11. Aren’t the “lucky” ones the ones that can’t and have been sent home to do naff all, on at least 80% of their wages, until the world gets back to normal and then they have their jobs safely waiting for them to return too..?

  12. If government advice is for anyone furloughed to not work then you'd assume not ? I'd presume if you're working from home while furloughed you're not entitled to the 80% as you're employer should be paying you because you're working. Obviously same may claim it and still work but I can't imagine the govt taking kindly to it if they found out.

  13. It's good to hear and it's definitely credit worthy. However on the other hand arguably it's no more than should be expected IMO, in these times. Definitely credit where it is due though.

  14. Got me a pretty cool red & black mohair jumper from Paradise Garage, but it didn't last long due to getting drenched in sweat and lager too many times down the Locarno. Our Favourite Shop though was Rodney Thomas in the Arcade. At different times it catered for teds, punks, skins, mods and rude boys. After seeing Quadrophenia the movie you had to look properly sharp and Rodney was your man. Watch the cloth moth.

  15. Paradise garage. Ran by Richard. No health and safety there. Dick liked stacking things. Heavy boxes of shoes stacked really high. Heavy shoes with gurt soles on them. Turn round with your arms not tucked into your sides it caused an avalanche of creepers.

  16. A statement from Rochdale CEO David Bottomley On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am providing an update on the position of Rochdale AFC during this challenging time. I want to start by wishing you and your families well. I trust that you are staying safe and following all government guidance surrounding the outbreak of COVID-19. It is an extremely worrying period in all of our lives, and we are all very aware that we are in this together. On the 13th March, the EFL announced that there would be no football played for several weeks. Our players were all given home training regimes and have not trained together since that date. As a Club, we decided last Monday morning to take the action that the Government were seeking, in restricting movement, and effectively “lockdown” the Crown Oil Arena. As a result of this, whilst all staff have been paid in full for March, a number of our staff have had to be furloughed as we seek to maintain the long-term future of Rochdale AFC. The reaction of those staff shows the great loyalty we have within the Club and we trust that very soon we can repay the same. We continue to be in regular dialogue with the EFL and we are able to input our own thoughts and ideas. We will be taking their lead and initiative on a number of matters that are in negotiation in regard to how we progress going forwards as Clubs and as an Industry. If any of our supporters want to share their stories of virus and how it has affected their lives, so we can continue to try and spread awareness, please email office@rochdaleafc.co.uk. At this time, we do not know when we will be seeing the team back out on the pitch. Until then, we would like you all to follow government guidance and stay safe. Finally, I want to finish with a message from one of our Season Ticket holders, Nick Robinson. He published the below on social media, regarding his battle with COVID-19. It is a stark reminder to everyone that this issue should not be taken lightly, and that all advice needs to be followed. Nick Robinson: Evening everyone.. long post warning but here you have it... My Covid-19 experience started on Wednesday 18th March when I woke with a temp of 38.6c. As a family, we decided to self isolate and work from home. Over the coming days, I felt pretty sh***y with a temp hitting 42c a couple of times, with hallucinations thrown in for good measure. Luckily, Hayley and the kids seemed fine as I had self isolated into Graces bedroom. We called 111 a few times only to be cut off after a ‘couple’ of hours on hold. We finally got through and they called an ambulance on Thursday 19th. I then received a call back saying it had been cancelled and that my GP would call with a prescription of steroids. This happened and I started the steroids that evening. By Friday, I seemed to be getting better, spending time in the garden with the kids and doing some ‘pottering’, although I had also lost my sense of smell and taste as well as appetite. Fast forward to Monday 23rd and I thought, that wasn’t so bad, the kids were ok, Hayley was fine and I felt just a little tired. I’d done a conference call in the afternoon and my temp went back to 40c together with a shitty cough. Wow, I went to bed on Monday evening, unable to get my temp down but also struggling to breathe. I phoned 111 Tuesday 24th, 1st thing in the morning, who told me they couldn’t do anything and got my GP to ring with a prescription of antibiotics for pneumonia. I got the medicine and started them straight away but was throwing up within 1/2 hour and physically unable to stop coughing enough to take a breath. By Thursday 26th, I hadn’t eaten, Hayley was feeling poorly and I really didn’t know what to do... I asked Hayley to phone 999 as I hoped they would at least cart me off so that she didn’t have to worry about me. Paramedics arrived, confirmed it was highly likely I had post Covid-19 pneumonia but didn’t want to move me for fear of either spreading the virus or worse still, my getting it worse in hospital. Over the following days, my temperature has fluctuated between normal and 40c with very little appetite and even less energy. I finally managed to get out of bed and go downstairs for an hour on Saturday only to have to spend the remainder of the day and night back in Graces bed due to being ‘floored’... Today, wow, I finally got to spend a bit of time with the kids, downstairs, cuddled up watching TV. I even managed to have tea with them before succumbing to lack of energy and having to get back in bed. The feeling is describable to being run over (I’d imagine) by a bus... Today I’ve managed to talk on the phone, speak to my kids, see people through the window and even wash a few pots.. What a great day... I was one of those people who said ‘it’s the flu’ it’s nothing... how wrong was I... I think I caught it on the Tube or train in London a couple of weeks prior, on a works trip but I can’t be certain. The Only things that are certain in this are that: I have lost over a stone in less than a week I now have more hair on my head, face, eyebrows and in my ears than have had since I was 14 years old I sincerely want to express my love and gratitude to Hayley and my kids. This virus does not discriminate nor does it give a flying sh**... This virus WILL kill you if you don’t show it the respect. Please help anyone you can by either staying at home or supporting the Key-workers during this battle. Don’t be a di**head and think ‘it won’t get me’... it might not get you but it will get someone you love... My family mean everything to me and if someone [sic] wants to endanger that, even god won’t be able to help you... Please, please, please.. for the sake of everybody, stay safe, and look after each other...

  19. I don’t think many players will find sympathy from many people if they take clubs to court to get paid their full salary should they be asked to take a cut. They get paid well, and fair play to them, but they should not be exempt from sacrifice in times of crisis. However the problem lies in the contracts not foreseeing an unforeseen event like this, although interestingly in Scotland the contracts have a clause should the season be suspended. I can see all contracts in the future having a clause should the season be suspended.

  20. Couple of lines. Sheffield United lost £21m last season. However they only lost £1m year before and maybe £6m in 2016/17 in League One. A model for many. Bear in mind too that loss last season will surely include promotion bonuses which aren't included in FFP calcs, and rightly so. The Depreciation of fixed assets, the academy/youth expenditure, community expenditure and I guess infrastructure expenditure once amortised. Oh yeah and women's football. Surely they're absolutely fine- it's also possible that their 2016/17 League One title included promotion bonuses too. Anyway their headline losses are £10-11m below £39m even before allowables, promotion bonuses. An example to all!!

  25. You seem bitter about your own situation (or bitter on behalf of others) and seem to want footballers to make a sacrifice that won't benefit you. Unless I am reading your messages incorrectly, in which case, I apologise.

  27. Of course the stadium staff (majority) will be Furloughed. The stadium is shut - whereas players will be “working from home” keeping fitness levels up.

  34. City’s treatment of his injury was scandalous. Nobody seemed to know what the problem was with his knee, so he was just told to spend weeks on his own running up and down the Dolman to try and strengthen the knee. Although he injured his knee in August the first X-Ray wasn’t until October. Then the specialist told him that running up and down the stands had made the injury worse. To compound matters he was valued at £250k (a lot in those days) but the club had only insured him for £50k which meant he only received £10k

  35. I watched the BT rerun of the Arsenal game yesterday. He looked some player.I was only 6 when it happened but a lot of older city fans I know reckon he would have gone onto play for England. Such a shame his injury robbed him and us the chance to see what he could have achieved.

  39. Well done everyone! I did the Bath Half in 1:44 which was good but very slow start due to amount of people! Currently done 60k so far this week and 440k this year, still really enjoying it especially now the weather has got a bit nicer.

  40. Just discovered this thread. I’ve been running for thirty plus years but never to a great standard. These days I’m chuffed to get under 60 mins for a 10k and 28 for 5k. Running is now on hold as I’m in the “shielding” category for the current crisis, having had a kidney transplant (courtesy of my wonderful wife) in 2013. I’ve ordered a turbo trainer for my bike which will hopefully partially fulfill my cardiovascular fitness. ?

  41. No merger required. Rovers struggle to keep the supporters they already have, let alone attract new supporters. They are in the process of dismantling their club, bit by bit, year by year. If they had an active and committed fan base, they would have stopped the rot years back, but their collective apathy in not holding either their board to account whilst seemingly voting a fan to the board who doesn't communicate with them tells you how much they don't care. I'm sure for a lot of them, the sooner they are put out of their misery the better.

  42. Back out for a proper run yesterday. BS3 to Cabot and back along the waterfront and Hotwells. Very eerie as there is hardly any traffic and seeing the Waterfront all closed felt like end of days stuff. Certainly felt like I earned the beers I had afterwards!
