  1. Funny how the deluded few never bleated about ‘franchises’ when they had football, greyhounds, speedway and a market (!) all at Eastville - they’ll probably claim that Barcelona copied their blueprint! Although the sags still don’t seem to realise the true definition of a ‘franchise’ when they lazily bung that word in our direction ...

  3. Not always a fan of Simon Jordon, but have listened to him since this begun (and he has been on TALKSPORT a lot lately) well thought out opinion and rationale .

  4. I personally think that this season must be finished, whenever that may be, we are too far into this season just to scrap it, imagine how we would feel if City were clear at the top of the league and it was cancelled, the remaining games of this season could be finished anytime over the next 18 months and the next season should start after the Euros in 2021.

  9. If you don't mind me butting in I would say you are being a bit one-eyed too. Private companies do have contracts to treat NHS patients at the same cost as would be paid to an nhs provider. What they then do is set various criteria to filter out any complicated or risky patients e.g. those with co-morbidities or high BMI. In effect they cherry pick those they can do cost efficiently and leave the complicated cases to the NHS. Which undoubtedly makes them look efficient but is misleading.

  12. Haven't listened to the Talk Sport show but wondering if Big Cheese mentioned the cross I put in for him to score one of his trademark headers when he was playing as a 'ringer' for us in the Somerset Senior League one evening, late 80's.

  16. Should hope its on catchup but im never too sure! Really like listening to Simon Jordan, but haven't listened to him since this began, will endeavour to as have plenty of time. But Warburton came across so, so well to my ears. I'd be comfortable with someone like that in a more influential position than QPR manager.

  17. Your impression of the private medical industry is very negative and very false one. In taxes, the private medical industry pulls in nearly £2 billion per annum for the treasury. The annual NHS budget is roughly £135 billion. The private sector treats around 10% of population. Yet they do this on a cost of less than 4% of the equivalent NHS budget. It's hugely efficient and it shields the NHS from another 10% of cases, many of which are very expensive cases to treat. Private healthcare helps many people to live longer. Take cancer for example. Many of the drugs and therapies which the private industry fund are way too expensive for the NHS. If you have cancer, and are privately treated, you'll be entitled to things such as proton beam therapy, very rarely available on the NHS. Some cancer drugs cost £100,000 per year per patient - the NHS simply couldn't afford that, even if we threw all the money we possibly could at it. The private sector does a good job of keeping people alive and shielding the NHS from a huge number of treatments. If the private industry was closed tomorrow, the NHS would lose around £2 billion funding, and yet would need to increase it's budget exponentially to cover the extra treatment it would need to provide - it would not be affordable - unless you wanted everyone to pay another 40% on their tax rate. Quite simply, more people would die, because of lack of funding. Anyway, back to your initial argument - you want football clubs to give free tickets to thousands of people. I still don't get that. It's not just the NHS staff who are keeping this country going at the moment. Hats off to them, for sure, they deserve respect, but so does every other worker in this country who is keeping things moving. My Asda delivery driver deserves a ticket too. As does the person who packed the shopping in the supermarket, as does my postie, as do the binmen, the list can (and does) go on. I don't know why you want to single out NHS staff (only a proportion of which will be actually dealing with covid patients). To your final line. Yes, the NHS is a wonderful thing. But I needs the private medical industry too. Don't be so dismissive and one-eyed.

  19. Although I'm old and rickety, I'm blessed that I was able to watch The Cheese playing for BCFC. Man was awesome, just had his career ended too soon. I'm convinced that he'd have been a full England regular if he hadn't got crocked. As someone else said, an improvement on Paul Mariner at that time. It was nice to be in the Lansdown lounge hearing him speak a couple of seasons back at the Hull (5-5) game. Legend, and a status that was well earned. Looking at the attachment, the geezer drove a Cortina 1600E. The stuff that dreams are made of, eh!

  22. Because funnily enough we are Bristol City fans, on a football forum.. that is why shock horror we are discussing football players wages! I would have the EXACT same view of the Mclaren F1 team if they were financially bending over backwards to continue to pay Hamilton’s top whack wages but were only prepared to pay their mechanics 80% of their wage. Stan Collymore has hit the nail on the head for me. It is morally disgusting, and even more disgusting that individuals seem ready to defend the situation.

  25. So I’m concluding your solution is that those who earn loads of money I.e. footballers should continue to do so so they can continue their high spending lifestyles, and those who earn very little in comparison can take a cut? Really? Wow! I’m happy for footballers to earn the big bucks in an industry that earns big bucks, but in the current global crisis for the whole of society including football fans, non playing staff etc to take the financial hit but footballers shouldn’t be impacted cause they have expensive lifestyles is on a completely different page to me. https://apple.news/AuOTX8u7dS42hdtoa6BiuZA

  30. City’s treatment of his injury was scandalous. Nobody seemed to know what the problem was with his knee, so he was just told to spend weeks on his own running up and down the Dolman to try and strengthen the knee. Although he injured his knee in August the first X-Ray wasn’t until October. Then the specialist told him that running up and down the stands had made the injury worse. To compound matters he was valued at £250k (a lot in those days) but the club had only insured him for £50k which meant he only received £10k
