  1. THE DISAPPEARED Between 2016 and 2020 the majority of senior figures at Bristol Rovers FC vanished without trace leaving families mystified and fans completely unaware. Now, after minutes of painstaking research, former manager B J Tann has pieced together their harrowing tale. In his explosive best seller we learn how these innocent people were awakened by a midnight knock on the tent flap then whisked away to a patch of wasteland near Almondsbury never to be seen again. In the lower league football business asset refinancing activities are considered especially heinous. And when an elite group of dedicated executives attempted to expose such injustices they were made to pay a fearsome price. These are their stories. Michael Cunnah Stadium Expert Successfully implemented Wembley plan but found to be hopeless with a blank canvas Lee Atkins Mergers & Acquisitions Specialist Allegedly merged with a block of cement Will Dubey Football Analyst Analysis of dental records showed his appointment was purely cosmetic Steve Brookfield Finance Director Accused of conspiring to add up Mike Turner Director of Legal Affairs Caught soliciting on Stapleton Road Stephen Hamster Chairman Knew Too Much (Too Much was later discovered shot dead in the Total Produce Ltd car park) Ken Masters Fans Director Found in possession of Head & Shoulders with a street value of £10 000 Martyn Starnes CEO Fell overboard from his gravy boat and drowned in a sea of debt Nominated for the Booker Cash & Carry Prize. 2. You seem to be moaning for the sake of it. Many are working at greater risk, but should footballers be expected to work at risk without consultation, potentially adding to the burden of those who have no choice*? *I say 'no choice' obviously these people have chosen to work with the sick and ill, they haven't been conscripted, so they are likely aware that they risk coming in to contact with germ ridden people. Equally, why shouldn't Rooney have an opinion on 'his' industry?

  4. Fair point you make and as previously stated many of us didn't over celebrate that win and were just happy to beat a local rival who a lot of us are envious of how your club is run and conducts itself and we're do our best to get the better of your rivals who's fortunes certainly look like their changing and a million miles apart from you guys?

  5. 100%. They built these new hospitals but have barely used them. massive publicity stunt and waste of money. Should have moved those they thought were recovering to these before being moved back to their homes only when they were confirmed as recovered. If you look here https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/ and compare countries, we don't have any stats for recoveries. So, we don't know how many active cases there are. We are therefore trying to come up with cheaper alternatives to measuring this outbreak which are less reliable than testing and tracing. German football went back because they knew their cases have reduced and where they were and because their game is well run. We don't know where our cases are within the community and our game is 'run' by a load of competing, selfish individuals and organsiations who couldn't lead the game out of a paper bag.

  6. Hey folks. Only just recently discovered this thread. I’ve just sent a request to the otib strava group. I don’t use strava - I’m a Map My Run guy, but I’ve just loaded it up and will give it a go tomorrow. To catch up on my running history. Always used to play football so didn’t really focus on actual running. After a back injury at 37 stopped me playing I started running more. Haven’t done too many ‘official’ races. My first proper one was the Bristol Half in 2013 where I clocked 1:50. Then did the Bristol 10k in 2015 at 46:54. My next proper one was Forest of Dean half in 2017, clicking bang on 1:55. Every time I’ve done a race, I’ve trained well for it and then lost motivation after and ended up back at square 1! Having kids severely hampered my running too - having to do the school run has prevented me from running in the morning so for the last couple of years I’ve mainly been restricted to Saturday & Sunday mornings. Lockdown (and no school) has allowed me to up my game. Did 100k in March, and then 135k in April. I’m already on 87k for May. My Map My Run screenie below of month to date (plus a 5 Thursday and a 10 sat morning). @CyderInACan god knows how you did over 200k last month. You’ve spurred me on son! So, signed up to the club, will try Strava tomorrow morning. Planning on a 10k, so hopefully it works well. Good to be in the club - good extra motivation.

  7. 60,000 1976 and 50,000 five times since then, latest 2017/18. Apart from the first four weeks to allow the NHS to gear up in case it was really bad, and it is now blatantly obvious that it isn't and has been so for several weeks to anyone who actually looks at the numbers, the governmental response has been clearly wrong. You don't infer the seriousness of a problem from the response to the problem when you are able look at the problem itself.

  8. On Football centre show Matt Upson becomes the latest person to say if you can't play out the season you can't really relegate clubs on ppg, but would still allow promotions. Call me cynical but sky either appear to be getting people to say clubs shouldn't be relegated or they're finding people with that viewpoint to be on their shows.

  10. More than 20 years for 11-a-side! Think my early retirement up the Downs was 1996. I still blame it on Smurf. Still kept playing 5aside though. And now playing for Sands Utd I’ve actually played my first international! The running has been a salvation though through our (watered down) lockdown. Outdoor time, headspace and exercise all rolled into one. I’m loving it.

  11. Well....that 20 year break from football was always come back to bite once you started playing again!! Pre-lockdown I was still playing 5-a-side on Monday nights, and that also hampered my desire to run more. I’d run Sat & Sun mornings and play footy Monday night, then my body was too stiff to do owt again til Saturday! Fair play to you though Reg, that distance you clocked last month was incredible. It’s good to be part of this Strava group now, I hope it’s gonna spur me on to keep challenging myself and not let things slip again. I hadn’t realised Norwegian Chris was also in the group. I was with him in Benalmadina just before lockdown and I talked to him about upping my game. Interesting Chris fact - he has a tattoo of all the cities where he’s run a marathon.

  12. I think it’s possible. I was going to do this today, but just ran Strava instead. I’d initially opened both and set them off, whilst I went to get ready and they both clocked time.

  13. The Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Mönchengladbach match had some strong tackles, and a few late studs over the top. I think we saw less fuss being made, less haranguing of the referee....thus making it seem a bit played down.

  19. Not arguing your point as I haven’t looked at age related figures, but on a separate issue in the case of people carrying Covid: 0.27% of people on average are carrying the virus at any one point (see yellow bubble below), broken down into 0.22% of people in households 1.37% of people in care jobs Basically you’re 6 times as likely to be carrying the virus if you’re in a care role. That may sound obvious, e.g. you’re more at risk, but then add in you’re supposed to have PPE, processes to extra clean, vigilant etc, it doesn’t look great.

  20. Welcome! ive found a discrepancy between strava and my Apple Watch, strava tends to say I’ve done slightly more. You can use MapMyRun and export the data to a file and upload to strava, bit of faff but useful if you want to use MapMyRun but contribute to the strava group

  21. The death rate amongst NHS workers aged 18 - 65 is no different to the whole population aged 18 - 65. The higher death rate is in the retired NHS workers who returned to work to help and they should never have been asked to do this because they were always going to be far more vulnerable. I think that's a scandal along with the NHS infecting care homes by sending out recovered patients to them before confirming that they were clear of the virus.

  22. He was also on R5 Friday evening saying the same thing and he questioned/disputed some of the figures quoted by other clubs (costs of playing v losses by not playing).

  23. Hi Harry, welcome to the fastest growing football forum running club in South Bristol! You get team number 21. Wear it with pride! With a 1 year old, I know full well the limits that kids can place on running time. Life used to be so simple with so much time and O took it for granted. Why didn't I run more when I was single! It sounds like you are clocking up some serious mileage (I only work in miles!). Keep up the good work!

  24. I was doing a crossword in the pub and said to my Scottish friend, “I'm stuck on this one, ‘trapped on a desert island, eight letters, starting with M’ “ He said “Marooned” I replied “Thanks, I'll have a pint of lager”

  25. Yes, perhaps three games next year where the crowd will be up to 8,000. Don't understand why they lock 20,000 out when there is usually only 6,500 INSIDE. Seems daft

  26. We do take special measures for flu every year though including free vaccinations for all vulnerable people. And flu hasn't killed 60,000 people in the UK in a year for a long time. In fact it's not killed more than 30,000 people in a season since the late 1960s. Regardless, surely the long lockdown we're still in lets you see that this is slightly different from "a bad year for flu"?

  27. That's the great thing about football though, every success is relative, our last minute promotion against Dagenham, or your last minute win against Manchester United, would have meant just as much-if not more- to us than an umpteenth Champions League to a Real Madrid fan.
