  3. It is because we have had a number of Villa fans on here who have taken the polar opposite tack to the one you have taken. We ave had to read posts from some arrogant and, frankly, salty Villa fans, which gave some of us an impression of what your club was like. If more had been like you...

  4. I always remember landing in O'Hare international in Chicago a few years ago and the security chap mentioned he was a Chelsea supporter and a member of their Chicago supporters club. I mentioned not everyone in the UK lives in London and that I lived in Bristol. 'Ah, Bristol City, yeah'. I mentioned there was another Bristol football club and he genuinely had never heard of them. True story.

  5. We’ve played them competitively 3 times in 18 years! I’m nearly 39 and grew up despising them because we were playing them regularly. Most people 30 and under just don’t have the same hatred towards them that those of us who are that bit older do!

  6. I don't believe FFP will be as much as a concern in the near future as it was in the past, due to Covid and the fact that our leadership is much more competent. The squad should be of good Championship standard, but a lot depends on what we can keep hold of. If we make say, £60m net on outgoing transfers i'd expect half of that figure to be available for new transfers. We could find ourselves without an experienced striker on the first team. That would not go unchecked. Personally I'm happy to return to the lower league as long as we have an astute plan for promotion - this would involve improvement on the training pitch as well as action in the transfer market. Any team that gets relegated from the Championship will have get at least £110m TV revenue before any parachute money arrives (note that we have spent ours already) I actually hope that Bristol City get the right manager in and sooner rather than later go up. I have nothing but good wishes for your club. I do find the antagonism towards Aston Villa slightly amusing.

  8. The problem with Rovers is they want to be us. They know they’ve got an owner who won’t / can’t finance them. For them the highlight of their weekend is when our result comes through and if we’ve lost. We’re light years ahead of them

  10. Same, they were ******* tinpot back then as well but at least they gave us a game. Nowadays they just sit in the shadows and sneer at any ambition we have whilst their own funny little club provide constant ‘gifts’ for our amusement. I’ve heard a few, but as those Villa fans will tell you, nothing like the obsession they show towards us at the Mem. Maybe if they actually supported their players on the pitch once in a while they might have won more than one match since Christmas and maintained their own promotion push? When was the last time they played clubs like Forest and Wednesday in the 2nd tier? ?

  11. Are you suggesting that City should’ve gone for him instead?

  13. Oh come on, really??? There's a massive difference with the half time and full time scores being read out over the tannoy and the inevitable cheer that goes up when you're losing or have lost. I would say though that even that is becoming less of a cheer especially as we have very little in common apart from a name. It's a bit different to paying to watch your team but not acually watching your team because you're on your phone constantly checking our scores or listening to Radio Bristol willing us to lose to make your weekend perfect. Don't forget, this isn't biased Bristol City fans saying it, it's an independent Aston Villa fan witnessing it! Why, our fans were even being accused of being in with the Mansfield fans when you lot got relegated out of the league! Talk about conspiracy theories. By the way, none of us actually believed you would get relegated that day. Like I've said previously I welcome reading your comments on here and because of your (in the main) balanced opinions I am pretty sure you must be a City fan at heart! Football is all about opinions and the world would be a duller place if we all had the same ones.

  14. I don’t think they’ll be in trouble because they have saleable assets. Agree, but your issue will be replacing them with the quality required. I don’t see Villa assembling a squad of the same quality as last season (Abraham, Mings, etc). Can imagine John Terry might go too. We will then see how good Dean Smith is, and whether he can handle “names”. I’m only speculating, but I can imagine Terry bring pretty key in that player to staff dynamic. Having said that, none of us know how covid will impact things. You probably won’t get top dollar, but you don’t have to pay it out either. The pressure will be on, as you’ll only get 2 years worth of PPs. Interesting times ahead though. I do hope you get relegated though....sorry!

  15. Have to agree . I was going ballistic when you lost to Mansfield Town whilst they were wearing your away shirt and you got relegated out of the football league. Great day

  16. Although I go to most Rovers games, I like to read the reports as I miss most of the action looking at my phone checking to see how City are getting on ;)

  17. Just reading some reaction to him leaving on the Post website from Gasheads. Got to love this one... "Thanks for your service and effort Ollie. Magic moments like your goal at Eastleigh away will never be forgotten." Your damn right it wont, Non League Bristol Rovers. We're never forgetting that either!
