  1. We paid Lois Diony £20k a week so if SL can't see the value in paying an experienced manager like Chris Hughton £20k a week, then we might as well give up.

  2. Season if affectively over, get the new man in and give him a couple weeks to review the squad in training. Time waits for no man, let's not waste this opportunity.

  4. He is back! Thought he looked unplayable today. That bit of skill was incredible, he's so good on the ball. First touch that of an elite player. Defensively I am so impressed with him too. He's surprisingly good and maybe more of a wing back than full back a bit like Hunt. Though different level in ability! Also thought Kalas is looking more back to his best. 2 players we have been asking questions about this season after being so good last season.

  5. You still seem to be coming up with excuses not to like Gerrard, that have no real foundation. People keep saying “finished 2nd in a 2 horse race” and “they’d be expected to win most of their games”. The 2 seasons prior to SG’s arrival, they finished 3rd, behind Aberdeen. SG improved to finish their ‘rightful’ 2nd in both his years in charge. 16/17 they lost 9 games. 17/18 they lost 10 games. SG’s 2 seasons so far, they only lost 10 in total. So he improved the league position and he halved the losses. This season, they went on a 16 game unbeaten run in the leagu

  6. I always have thought that if I ran a football club, I would appoint the best manager money could buy. That position is of far greater importance than any single player and worthy of the best salary in the Club. Ideally, I’d have the salary weighted towards performance...but that’s down to negotiation. By the sound of it, that would be a £4 million contract for 4 years, equivalent to a couple of CoD’s and a Gustav.

  11. After mulling this over for a few days I think I've finally convinced myself that Gerrard is likely Lansdown's top target and he'll try and do a deal for him first. If that doesn't work out then Hughton is the fallback. IMO.

  12. Let’s assume we’ve decided on the manager, he’s done some due diligence on our squad. If it were me, I’d want to get in and speak to them, see them train, even if it’s just post match and or match....suss out their mood, etc. Check out the ones who are “on the beach” etc. A lot can be learned in this next week. Might not have much influence on tactics in the last 2 games, but might even want to see Macca and Deano, see what makes them tick too. I wouldn’t waste a day. There are agents for deal with too, you don’t want to get caught out by a player you want to keep speaking to ano

  14. Ah the East End Spent the 1960’s and a fair part of the 70’s in there. Always exciting walking up the narrow ramp from the car park turnstiles and seeing at the top the old lady stretching out with the low roof. Getting there early enough to find a barrier to lean against but as someone said earlier remembering to duck under as it filled up to stand in front of it for the match. Famous names echoing from the tin roof “Galley...Galley...Galley”. Opposing team fans being allowed in and trying to “take” it, ending in fisticuffs. Freezing cold feet. Tobacco smoke and wet raincoats. M

  15. Who we appoint next will be a direct indicator of where we are as a club, it is that simple. All of the lingo bingo by Ashton et al will be put to one side, and we will see where we are. option 1 - Hughton, Gerrard, Allardyce or similar. We are not trading our best players Unless it’s a deal we can’t refuse, we are likely to sign players ready to go, and we are oooking at prem in 2-3 seasons maximum. option 2 - Lowe, Wellens, Flynn or similar. We will trade best players, bring through youth and rough diamonds from lower leagues. Prem, maybe quickly but more likely status quo a

Yes sir a true American hereI have always wanted to have an English team to follow.Of course where I live and really from what I have seen, people in the States are very much glory hunters and fans of Man U,Man City,Chelsea, etc.I didn't want to go that route so tbh just researched as it were for a long time and the deeper I got into Bristol City the more enthused I got.Love what I read about the fans and watched lots of things via youtube and eventually got Robins TV and haven't looked back since.Proud to be a new member of the family if you will Read little about those years but deffo s

  17. 7 points from our last 3 games is inexcusable. Any chance of promotion now fully blown barring a miracle and with the quality of our current squad not making the playoffs is simply not good enough! He's had continual backing from lansdown in the market, having held onto ALL of our most valued players during his time as manager. There has been such a poor atmosphere at the gate since his appointment and this can only be put down to the man managing this side! As long as things continue the way they are at the moment, despite being a season ticket holder, I WILL NOT be returning to Ash

  21. In general I think money is a poor motivator of people. You need to pay people enough that they will come to work, and not feel hard done by (or be looking over the fence at what the person next to them is being paid) but beyond that, I think people are primarily driven by other things. Or rather - to effectively drive/motivate people to achieve money is actually pretty poor in that regard. I don't think Hughton will be coming here and trying to get us promoted so he has an extra £%, or at least I'd hope not. I think he'd be doing it for personal or ambitious reasons. He wants to be in co

  22. I cant imagine this is true. If he is genuinely serious about promotion then that amount does not seem unreasonable. If he isnt willing to pay that then stop talking about promotion and stop letting Ashton continuously waste money.

  23. Semenyo, still a teenager in the games he played for us this season, has looked talented at times but obviously very raw and not ready yet = “he’s crap and he’s not going to make it.” Massengo, also a teenager, shown some talent in less than a handful of matches, also looks raw and not ready yet = “Wow he’s the messiah, look at his hair, he’s going to be the best young player we’ve ever had, its a shame we’re just holding on for him until Chelsea buy him for £20million.” How people can completely write off a 20 year old is absurd, not every youngster is going to be like Mason

  24. I must say I felt a little bit of relief when full time came and I knew we could stop the play off pretense. Don't get me wrong, I was urging us to win, but there's a certain closure* to this season now. We as fans are prone to putting our hopes on fairytales, and whilst a few results went our way, as though to tease us, we all should have known that 6th spot was unattainable after the Cardiff defeat. Now we can wake up from that particular far-fetched dream, and start a new dream that focuses on the 2020-21 season. To earn seven points from the last three games is impressi

  29. Oxford was Lg2 though....and 4 years ago. He’s made 120 appearances for us (65+55). He’s been given many opportunities but apart from a 6-8 game spell in 17/18 he just hasn’t delivered...and they weren’t all flying performances either, some good ones intermingled with “doing ok”. He’s not an inconsistent winger like many wingers are, there just aren’t enough good games to balance the poorer games. @steviestevienevillecalls him timid, which is spot on. He’s on the periphery of games. I see no drive. Those 4 games after covid that he started ranged from woeful to average. It wasn

  36. Agree again Tone. At the top end of the Championship it’s not a numbers game, hoping someone comes good. It’s got to be top quality recruitment, not guesswork. A coherent plan, recruitment to than plan and take the risk out. We should not be taking punts, everything should be calculated decision making. I accept not everything will come off, but the intention has to be there. Our current model does seem to include buying players to stop others buying them in the “hope” they come good. If they don’t you can still sell them for a similar amount to what you bought them for. Eisa a good

  37. Conversely he could look at a somewhat bloated playing squad and sell on some of the dross (and there are a few) which would more than cover the extra needed to pay a decent manager with the wages saved. Let's also remember the huge financial rewards said manager would bring to the club in the event of promotion to the PL. No brainer for me.

  38. Or the more likely scenario of us appointing a Ryan Lowe and finishing bottom half and then watching Fulham take Hughton and go up. Any managerial appointment is somewhat of a gamble. I suppose it’s just a case of how far we’re willing to go to shorten our odds of promotion.

  39. Wrote out a long spiel about MA and his team but I can’t be bothered with the name calling again from certain quarters so.....Yes I would much rather have CH + new head scout over LJ and MA and his team. I believe CH or someone of his ilk is exactly what this club needs to progress above all else and would go all out to get it. But as others have said - easy when it’s not your money!

For what would be one of the highest profile managers we have ever appointed, it will be a high price but a reasonable one. Go for it Steve, treat yourself.

  47. As a very young kid, first away fans I ever saw in the East End were Plymouth, followed a week later by rowdy mob from Millwall and then a couple of months later Wolves brought down a decent contingent. Me and my young mates watched in fascination as the bigger kids/men from our area (and others we didn't know) got stuck in, defending our End and forcing the "Away Lot" to scatter or seek protection from (what always appeared to be) large numbers of coppers, The coppers, incidently, seemed to enjoy the punch-ups just a much. Loved the deafening noise, the cameraderie, the tense, expec
