Yup, at times it was like we were playing against ourselves as well as the opposition. Ground out an ugly win but at least we have added that to what we can do. If Itoje wasn’t playing it would have been a hell of a lot easier!

I guess the other way to look at it is the money in football dwarfs the money in rugby. That being said, the difference in recruitment, on both a coaching and playing level, is frightening, money aside. It’s not just the talent Bristol bring in, its the fact they have such a clear direction, and bring in players accordingly. That’s the major difference between what Tainton/Lam bring to the table with Bris and what Ashton has brought to the table with us
