  4. It worked in Sweden as there is still a social contract that the Government is there for the people, which is what retains trust, and why they have done what was required. Pretty much the same in Germany. It’s not the case here because quite rightly many feel that Johnson & co don’t really give a stuff about them as long as they are alright, plus Cummings et al are allowed to “interpret the rules” however they see fit, but we have to follow them and get blamed for spreading the virus by breaking them. One thing that annoys people more than anything is hypocrisy, and this lot are full of it!

  5. The clubs in the National League whose players are full time want to play, with or without crowds. The clubs whose players are part time don’t want to play without crowds, this, because their players only get paid when they play. The clubs had a meeting today, they are asking for government support money wise, if they get this, then the league will start on October 3rd.

  6. Just been having a similar conversation on twitter DM. Personally I think the rationale for one thing over another, e.g. pub over football ground is ridiculous, so if pubs are ok, why aren’t other businesses. Don’t get me wrong I think there’s a pretty strong argument to lockdown down pubs etc too (apologies publicans on here). But if pubs can open, where is the comparable safety assessment that can be applied to football stadia.

  7. Fair enough, things have to be tried. I downloaded the Track and trace app today, all the government have to do now is get the "test" part right that should have been running in February.

  8. It’s ridiculous there has to be some way now to get a small % of people into stadiums. I’m sure clubs don’t care if it’s 500 people at this point, that’s 500 refunds they don’t have to give. Be as militant as you like about the rules, masks during games, 5 seats between people, allocated entry/exit points, but start drip feeding people in. If I can go to a pub, cinema, restaurant indoors with 2m distancing then football should be less of a risk.

  9. There has to be a realistic review of this, as there is a massive difference between Conference North and South and Man Utd. In a Country where 23 hours in Spoons is allowed, but a number of socially distanced fans in open air are not permitted, something must be wrong. Europe seems to be managing it well, and protecting sporting clubs should be important. We seem to be falling for the Government BS blame shifting and trying to punish ourselves. Sorry, let’s have leadership, consistent messaging, taking it seriously, trying to balance the various needs, proper planning, not just making it up as they go along. Maybe even see what scientist say.

  10. and Ladies and Gentlemen, that is our Gaseous Friends.....always (in my lifetime, and I'm 58 now) they've always have hated us more than loved their own team. Odd bunch...

  11. Its fine to finish an innings but not okay for Essex to start hahaha, knew we'd get shit umpiring decisions helping Essex

  12. We've won today's play and I think we would've taken a score of 301 yesterday. It's a shame we've had a poor session this evening but we should be confident that we can get a first innings lead with our bowling attack.

  13. Controversial opinion of mine, but I’d much prefer running events, gyms, swimming, badminton, tennis, football, cricket etc etc continued as normal and instead all the pubs were closed. With covid a particularly high killer amongst the unhealthy, surely we ought to be encouraging exercise and fitness and discouraging boozing. I’d rather run a 10k with a couple of thousand people than I would sit in a dark & dingy back street boozer with a dozen borderline alcoholics. Surely it’s better for people to engage in exercise than drinking.

  15. Get ready for dodgy umpire decision to go off with Essex 9 down a long way off beating our 1st innings score....

  16. Depends how you mean a draw If you mean the match isn't completed after 5 days. As long as both sides completed their first innings, whichever side scored more in the first innings wins. If both teams don't complete their first innings, the title is shared If the scores are tied after completing all innings the title is shared

  18. Hopefully we can plough on in this session. It looks like there could be some difficult batting conditions this evening and tomorrow. An interesting stat that I heard this morning was that Somerset have had 6 centurions (now 7?) in the Bob Willis Trophy this season compared with Essex's 1. Our bowling attack has been fantastic but our batsman certainly deserve some credit.

  19. Agreed when certain segments of the population can’t social distance or wear a mask indoors, the chances of compliance for re-opening to larger numbers of spectators is pretty much nil while prevalence levels are this high.

  20. The most telling thing about that statement is that they'd see it as "success" if that were to happen in league one, due to our failure..!

  21. Theyre a good side yeh, the likes of Cordero (ex Exeter, rapid feet) and Ben lam (pats nephew) will frighten any team. They have two excellent props in Poirot (French international) and Ben Tameifuna (who weighs 23 stone!!). Jailbert at fly half is another one to look out for, only 21 and already a French international, was in their 6 nations squad as well. Last season they relied a lot on Semi Radradra though, who's obviously now with us, so will be interesting to see Lam (his replacement) and how he shapes up, although from what I've seen of him at the hurricanes and with the AB's he looks class. Should be a great game, our only hope is that bordeaux, being French and therefore poor travellers, won't turn up in the same way they would at home. A performance like last Friday will be enough to see them off

  22. Well, I wrote a long response taking this post to pieces and then some (doubtless well meaning) moderator merged threads - probably whilst aware people were reading it. This my reply is lost in the either now. Suffice to say I'm right and this post above is wrong. I could even show my workings and everything.

  23. So do you support smaller pubs going out of business as long as Wetherspoons can keep going? Local theatres as long as the next Avengers movie gets made? Local restaurants as long as Pizza Express is alright? Family B&Bs as long as Premier Inn are ok? Do you think all those large corporations don't/haven't benefitted from the smaller ones they bought up / took staff from / forcibly closed and replaced etc. along the way? Surely you should be advocating for them to do the same? It's not a football problem, it's a societal/capitalism problem!

  24. The rivalry only lasted one season. It was 50/50. Villa had half the tote end.
