  5. If I’d have known he was gonna play, I wouldn’t have shelled out a tenner. The worst midfielder I’ve seen in many a year at our place. Watching him run around after El Ghazi tonight was like a slapstick comedy. I half expected El Ghazi to custard pie him at any time. He’s like a 10 year old playing in a men’s game. Runs everywhere, but does nothing. Lesson learnt for me tonight - wait for the team sheet before buying the stream. Awful.

  6. Bakinson looks like a proper, proper footballer. I've been so impressed with him so far this season. IMHO it's therefore very exciting to think we have both Joe M & Joe W plus Liam to come in to that midfield. I think we're in a good place.

  7. If you look at our centre back options when everyone's fit, he's 5th choice for me behind Kalas, Mawson, Baker and Moore and for me he's the guy to drop out of the side when Kalas is back fit. I think generally he's done well since coming into the side post DH taking over but agree against real quality he can be got at defensively as the Villa game showed. Overall though with his versatility he is a decent to good squad player for the level we want to get to but nothing more than that imo.

  9. I think he's a good back-up player. Wages won't be high, won't expect to play every week. I don't worry when he has the ball, sometimes I do when he doesn't. He's got a good cross-pitch long ball to the LWB though.

  10. I think it’s because the 3 more ‘established’ ones you mention formed the bulk the midfield last season that was clearly not very good. Massengo will come good. But Nagy & Palmer haven’t shown me anywhere near enough to warrant a first team place (nay, even a squad place when everyone’s fit). It’s not like those 3 have torn up the championship and have masses of experience at the level. I think most people realise that last years midfield was terrible and want some fresh faces in there, plus people are genuinely excited at seeing if the clear potential of Morrell, Bakinso

  11. Agree with this. Two great potential combinations there. Fam currently my 5th choice centre forward behind those three and Weimann. Time to move him on I think, he just doesn't seem to fit the system.

  12. Same as Moore. Good athlete. Good attitude. Comfortable on the ball. Needs to be stronger, more dominant, with more controlled aggression - forwards always look comfortable up against him, he needs to make it uncomfortable and for 90 minutes. Probably not quite good enough but it's early days so happy to be proved wrong in the long run.

  13. What's most amazing for me is Bakinson coming out of U23, to being almost the first name on the teamsheet. Its amazing really and fair play to him and also Holden for seeing it.

  14. The other thing about Massengo missing here is that he's not a headline grabbing attacking player like lots of those you've mentioned. At the moment, we've mainly utilised him as a fairly defensive minded midfield player. Nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't grab people's attention in the same way the likes of Grealish, Bellingham, Brewster etc do. It is possible to be noticeable as a defensive minded midfielder (ie Bakinson) but that usually comes when a player is physical and imposing. That's not Massengo's game either. He is still very good for his age, and it's all the more im

  15. Deano’s selection last night was made with one eye on the Championship fixture against the Owls this Sunday and selected several fringe players and consequently an under strength team took the field. Its no surprise to get comfortably beaten by a PL outfit who reached the final last season. One thing for sure is that Deano will have learnt a great deal about which of the fringe players will feature in Sunday’s squad.

  16. Mark these words. There will definitely be comments on this board in a similar vein about Bakinson a year or two ago. ‘Will never be up to it.. Plymouth fans said his problem is... he’s nowhere near first team.. blah blah’. Give massengo a chance to develop in a stable team with a clear plan, give him a clear role and he’s going to be class. We have more than one example in the team this season of young players who have been written off plenty on these boards and yet are now showing they are more than good enough for this level. (Remember the level last night was

  17. They are a mid table PL team and they outplayed us with that extra bit of ability per player and Dean Smith is one classy manager who outsmarted Deano who, let’s face it is in his first managerial role. Everyone knows that 3-5-2 has its benefits but also its weaknesses and Villa took full advantage of those weaknesses - well done to Dean Smith.

  18. I’m pretty sure we could just play with TB on his own in central midfield. I’m thinking a 5-1-4 formation.

  21. If anyone who paid in full for their season card but are yet to receive a refund for the Coventry game please can you email me your supporter ID number slo@bcfc.co.uk and I'll look into it. A reminder that the refund will go back to the person who made the payment on the card they paid with. DD payers should of received an email explaining the process for the Coventry & Sheff Wed games.

  22. Intrigued to see what people’s opinions of Zak are. He’s a confusing one for me as seen flashes that show him as a talented player with ability and was superb at Swansea away. However, watching him defend he gets beat too easily and got caught ball watching a couple of long diagonals last night that put his man 1-1 with keeper. He’s 23 with over 100 games at various clubs and not convinced he’s a long term starter for us but could be wrong.

  24. I find it quite odd that people are keen to rank a youngster who's made a promising start to his career (Bakinson) and a couple of other midfielders we've seen little of (Morrell, Walsh) mainly at lower levels, and a new signing who's not played for us yet in Williams above expensive signings with higher level experience like Nagy, Massengo and Palmer. I think it's just the usual hype for players not currently in the side who must be the solution to the problem and it's unlikely that there's going to be some massive step up in quality if they are picked. Our midfield - much like any mid

  27. This is going against the grain but at the moment i think he is better than TM, Taylor can sometimes let the ball bounce off of him when trying to control it also he is sometimes careless with his passing. i dont see any of this with Zac. I should of added i think they are both decent with room to improve even more.

  28. Palmer is a waster because he’s not interested in using his talent. He’s only interested when he wants to be. Quite frankly he’s taking the piss. When you see the effort the other players put in, he looks like a modern version of Dinning.

  31. 100%. I mentioned pre-match that I didn’t think the line up was gonna be 3-5-2 as the players simply didn’t fit. Alas, it was a 3-5-2 and it struggled. Rowe at LCB is always going to be a problem, but to compound that problem by giving him Eliason as the wing back down his side was just asking for trouble.

  34. I didn’t think Nagy was bad enough for this thread. The midfield was not good but it wasn’t really the game for Palmer to play and I’d say the same for Brunt. They are two very good options when we can dominate a game but in this one that wasn’t going to be the case. Nagy I was disappointed in some of his play. Especially from a technical standpoint. He should be gifted enough to not have so many poor touches and misconnects striking the ball. I think he like Massengo lacks a bit of self control when getting around the pitch. Sometimes moving too much when maybe just drifting would s

  35. I didn't see the game, and you can't get a proper grasp of what's going on from the 'wireless'. That said, I don't think you needed to see the game to spot the potential weakness. Eliasson at LWB is fine against teams like Northampton where we can dominate the ball. Rowe is ok when we aren't put under pressure, but add the two things with those two players and you can see a problem. The thing is Holden is obviously pretty wedded to the 3-5-2, and that's fine, I think partly due the the short pre-season he wants to get the system and style well ingrained into the squad, so unlike LJ he won

  36. Fikayo Tomori would be great on loan for season... Kalas, mawson n him. I look to sell baker when back along with loaning out massengo n Nagy. Sell eliasson, fammy get as much as we can n loan another striker... that Davis up front looked tidy

  37. Because after losing Kalas in the last cup game we didn’t want to gamble with Mawson. With Baker out until November we either completely change formation or go with what we have.

  38. I honestly don't get the general confidence levels on here that Walsh and Morrell will tear up this league. Neither of them have a track record at this level. They've both had good loan spells in lower leagues. We saw against Northampton that our midfield looked amazing. It's not a given they'll deliver in championship games. Walsh looked a bit out of his depth for us before last season's loan. Maybe L1 is his level? Williams has form at this level but it could take a fair while before we know who is going to grab the MF slots. Right now Bakinson looks a good bet but on the basis o

  40. guys, dont play up to Harry the Horror. He only post rubbish and him not paying a tenner will harm absolutley no-one. Does he ever make a positive contribution ? Dont think so. Thought Semenyo looked good against an EPL 2nd eleven and several others did too. Thier reserves would comfortably win the Championship which is where our attentions need to focus now against Owls on Sunday. Our first team will do better
