  1. Bordeaux are impressive. Looks like they’ve got an extra couple of men! Critical try that at the end of the half for us though. All down to fitness. Can Bordeaux maintain that high energy?

  2. Will fitness / game time tell later in the game. I hope so for Bristols sake...

  3. On a slightly different subject... Must sting a bit that even our fringe players who can’t get anywhere near our first team would rather go all the way to Hull to get a game than pull on ‘Da famous Quarterz’ ? Poor old Slags, not as special as they think they are...

  5. And also exercise is so good for mental health - i don’t drink much at all these days, in fact i would say I’m a typical binge drinker, once a month or so, it makes you feel like shit for days, i don’t miss it one bit.

  6. Theyre a good side yeh, the likes of Cordero (ex Exeter, rapid feet) and Ben lam (pats nephew) will frighten any team. They have two excellent props in Poirot (French international) and Ben Tameifuna (who weighs 23 stone!!). Jailbert at fly half is another one to look out for, only 21 and already a French international, was in their 6 nations squad as well. Last season they relied a lot on Semi Radradra though, who's obviously now with us, so will be interesting to see Lam (his replacement) and how he shapes up, although from what I've seen of him at the hurricanes and with the AB's he looks class. Should be a great game, our only hope is that bordeaux, being French and therefore poor travellers, won't turn up in the same way they would at home. A performance like last Friday will be enough to see them off

  7. I can remember paying £2.50 to stand on the East End in 1990ish. Open end was £3.00 for some reason? If I remember the atmosphere inside football grounds at that time correctly, I imagine there weren’t too many people visiting Ashton Gate one week and then going to Trumpton the following week unless your name is Roger Malone. I believe it used to be a reasonably common occurrence in the 50’s and 60’s. Then we got promoted to the top flight in the 70s and the ‘Gas’ who would watch us one week and their own shower the next suddenly forgot where Eastville was.

  8. Yep, seems to have been pretty common “back in the day”. I’m glad I got in to football at the time Rovers were in Bath, as I grew north of the river. My dad is an Argyle fan, so just took me to any team that was local. Could well have ended up on the other side of the fence if Rovers had still been playing in Bristol then. Jeez, I’m off for a wash, I feel dirty.

  9. Well played Bristol. Fitness in the end, and a 17 point margin feels harsh on Bordeaux in a quality game that was tense as heck through normal time.

  10. God I've got no nails left. What a performance this'll be to win this, bordeaux are exceeding what I thought they'd bring, class outfit. Here's hoping we can survive the last 10 minutes...

  12. They would be more than happy to play in The Downs league as long as we were in the division below them, sums them up.

  13. I beg to differ - they do have ambition, it`s to finish one place above us once in their lifetime.

  14. The clubs in the National League whose players are full time want to play, with or without crowds. The clubs whose players are part time don’t want to play without crowds, this, because their players only get paid when they play. The clubs had a meeting today, they are asking for government support money wise, if they get this, then the league will start on October 3rd.

  15. I was running at around 8.15mm for 10k on average, quickest was 7.50mm, for the first z2 session where the second your out the zone you have to walk to drop your heart rate and did it approx 10.20mm Im doing an Ironman in July next year so it’s all to do with building a huge engine for that to get me round.

  16. Simple fact is that the virus is likely to be around for some time, so we have to work out a way to live with it, balancing risk and economy. The focus should be on what we CAN do safely. Science seems to suggest that risk of transmission outdoors is much lower, so let’s look at how it can be done safely. All very well to be risk averse, but mental well-being is important, and damage to mental health could do a lot more damage than the virus.

  17. Under Rishi Sunak new scheme at the Memorial Ground; You give the man on disabled gate £10, he gives you back £3.33, he keeps £3.33, and then lets you in. When inside you find out that no spectators are allowed in and so you have to leave. You ask the nice man for your tenner back and he says go **** yourself. You realise that he actually kept £6.67 and you've been taken for a mug. Get home to listen to the boyz in blue lose 2-0

  23. Depends which way you look at it. If I were to say to you that a non-league club who is struggling financially and has a poor Infastructure, has managed to get themselves a few promotions in the last 5 years and are now plying their trade in League 1, then you would say that they have been a relatively successful club wouldn't you? NLBR - Non League Bristol Rovers. Punching above their weight since 2016.

  24. It’s fairly easy to spread 353 people around a football pitch, with groups staying at least 2 metres apart, especially if there are no stands and seats to deal with. You could spread 1000 people easily around Ashton Gate, if everyone acted appropriately and all 4 stands were used. The problem is not in the ground itself which is outside, so less risky. It’s getting people to and from, not congregating indoors un the concourses as they enter and leave. However in the current circumstances, the big issue is that it cuts against everything else that we are being required to do, which is really to stop mixing with each other, because as long as there are potentially infectious asymptomatic people meeting other people, the risk of spreading rapidly remains high. The bottom line is that unlike Germany, Italy and even Greece, we have never managed to get testing sorted in this country and that’s why we are where are now. Instead of investing in and building on what we had in hospitals, universities and in local authority public health departments, this Tory government outsourced it to Serco, a company renowned for its high profile public contract failures, in which they get the money but we don’t get the service. NHS Test and Trace is a lie because it’s not NHS, it’s a private company making a big profit and failing us in the process. Just because you stick an NHS label on it doesn’t make it so.
