How sad it would be for them to get a third round draw against a Spurs, Liverpool or ManU and make no money from the gate.3 points

I have just started watching it on the BBC red button, I didn't realise it was on but Jesus that ground looks even worse than I remember. I should imagine it's one of the worst that Darlington have ever played in.3 points

Excellent post. The Armco is generally used where there is less chance of an impact. Unfortunately on this occasion it was a very high force impact. As mentioned in commentary, if he had hit it at the right angle the car would have taken a slide down the barrier and eventually come to a stop (Although there wasn't a lot of it because of where the access road was located). Here, the car has hit the barrier at such an angle and at such a force that the barrier has opened up, but the car has split at the point the roll bar (I think) hits the barrier. ( @phantom this should answer you question) The force of the impact was recorded at 53G. Amazingly Grosjean didn't lose consciousness, which I find incredible. It was around 25 seconds between impact and Grosjean jumping over the barrier. The miracle here is that he went through that barrier, thankfully saved by the halo, but also the fact he was in that fire for so long. I've watch F1 for 30 years a have only seen this sort of thing a couple of times before. A stark reminder of the fact I watch a sport incredibly dangerous for entertainment. Thankfully safety has come a very long way.2 points

2 observations 1) There appears to be 11 Full Kit *an^ers (In Blue & Shite) on the pitch 2) The Ref really is a fat bastard BONUS Observation - WHY am I watching this ?? ?2 points

Shame about the defensive mix up, they had no problems up to then, Nicky Hunt looks quite classy at centre back at this level.2 points

Nice. I quite like the idea of supporting a fan owned smaller club. I mean, we're all Darlo today right? Game is on BBC website and red button. Hopefully an enjoyable cupset.2 points

Or Harry, Being blunt - what’s he actually good at , let alone very good at - most of the positive comments tend to come about his defending from set pieces If you were trying to sell him to a prospective buyer , what would be your sales pitch Im dissapointed that he hasn’t improved whilst here IMHO - His touch is so poor and something that should be improved , And I don’t think despite his ‘look’ he’s a great athlete , not so much his fault , but fitness is something he can work on and improve Time to move on from Famara for me , if we are serious about progression Ruthless , but necessary IMHO2 points

I’m out of likes but agree with this post, Graham. The question I have is if Holden doesn’t fancy Vyner/Moore as a central two, why bring in Mariappa and not play him - despite telling everyone he’s kept himself fit and is ready to go straight in? Wells is a proven goalscorer at this level. I keep repeating the need for him to start as the central striker, playing the width of the six-yard box where he can utilise his instincts. The problem is where his supply comes from.2 points

Standard safety barrier, the same as you get on the road network but with three rails. If that had been a concrete barrier or a water filled wall he would have died No barrier is designed for a straight on collision1 point

Only just heard this unbelievable result so looked up the match report: JUST AS I SUSPECTED: Rovers broke through with a freakish opener. Josh Hare's long hopeful punt forward ballooned backwards up off defender David Atkinson's head and over his keeper Johnny Saltmer, and Daly nipped in to touch the ball over the line. ... Sam Nicholson which took him into the box, the ball broke kindly and he slotted home. Eight minutes after the restart, the lightweight Daly won another penalty when he went down very easily under a challenge from outraged defender Tony McMahon There was further anguish for McMahon when his well-struck effort - Darlo's best chance - was brilliantly tipped onto the post by Rovers keeper Anssi Jaakkola. So, freak goals, fluke goals, 2 outrageous penalties, and Darlington so unlucky to hit the post with a fantastic effort! Shame on those lucky gas b*******s - their name is mud yet again - and well played Darlington. Football is the loser with this monstrosity of a result and all decent football fans will surely agree that morally Bristol Rovers are THE LOSERS today (and every day) and the incredibly unfortunate Darlington the true winners. Hold your heads up and a safe trip home Darlington.1 point

Because I’m old and really don’t care anymore, I will make an observation of this thread that really gets on my tits. Semenyo is not a “striker” he is a forward. The constant reference to the word striker implies goal scorer. Where as the term forward implies he plays in front of the team and tries to create and hopefully take chances. should Semenyo be getting on the score sheet more often. Of course. But he has six/seven assists in his role as a forward. semenyo is not as effective with Fammy but very effective with Wells and Martin. A few goals will come, however it’s pretty obvious FD AND AS really are not that dangerous together. Anyway the point IS we have good forwards with one real goal scorer which is Wells. If you want to call him a striker I could just about stomach it. The other three are forwards.1 point

Honestly, not so sure. It was a section of the track where the chance of an accident was minimal. Raikkonen had an accident at Silverstone a couple of years ago onto the same type of barrier, but because he hit the barrier at a more shallow angle he glanced off and all was good. Here Grosjean has gone into the barrier at a near on 90⁰ angle and the fact the barrier deformed is actually good, because it means less impact going into the car and driver. Had he hit a solid wall all of the impact would have been on Grosjean's body, his chance of survival would have been even less. The main issue really is the way the barrier split, but that is arguably the result of the HALO doing such a good job. It is there as a safety device and by it's nature is meant to withstand high impacts. If the accident was repeated (hopefully it won't be) with the concrete blocks that have replaced that section I wouldn't expect the results to be any nicer.1 point

Feel a little bit sorry for Darlington. Fair play to them trying to keep playing their game. No doubt the Gas will claim they are world beaters. I don't think they've actually played that well considering the level of the opposition.1 point

Watching that I was certain we were having a fatality...... brilliant to see him get out of it. What a job the designers do in survival cell design.1 point

I sometimes wonder how much referees are influenced not only by match events but by individual teams records? As you say the other side are regularly given penalties as are teams like Man U. , not because they've earned the penalty but in the referee's mind they always get one so this must also be one! I think after Man U's record last season of 20? penalties they are already on 1 every 2 games this season?1 point

Darlo fans have had a whip round to allow the team an overnight stay in Bristol prior to the match .1 point

I agree Dave , if we want to progress Cant all be done at once - but we need two or three windows where we get recruitment spot on I know it’s an old debate but our recruitment over the last few seasons (As most in my life watching City) has been very mixed , and thanks to LJ , muddled and some harsh decisions needed How many in DHs shoes would you be desperate to keep and build around ?? Quick thoughts Bentley JD probably Semenyo Kalas ? Probably Bakinson (Due to Age and possible potential) Vyner (Due to Age and possible potential) Williams (If he turns out what we hooe he will be) Wells (No messiah but we need to maintain some goals in squad) After that..... Do you think Holden is brave enough / ruthless enough , I have a suspicion he may well be - let’s hope his recruitment is good (a big question mark over The ‘recruitment team’ still for me )1 point

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be a nause. Quitting is normally considered a cardinal sin in boxing, people will forgive a fighter virtually anything but that. Dubois didn't seem arsed in the slightest.1 point
-
Have to say fair play to Frampton, absolutely scathing, and calling him out on it straight away.1 point
-
Piss poor that from Dubois, quit as soon as the going got tough. Had it all even at the time. Fair play to Joyce, levels above anything he's done before. His head movement was incredible compared to what he's shown up to now. Dubois is finished after that. Edit, his corner were absolutely appalling too.1 point

Would have thought row by row in each stand would have been easiest for social distancing rather than a block at a time all going out the same exits1 point

He was shocking today but we really dont play a game that helps our strikers.1 point

I’d agree with that to, drop the shoulder, knock it past the full back, sprint onto the ball and knock it into Robbie Turner, who chests it down for Taylor to knock it in, and then making your way from the back to the front of the shed.... That was my football when I was 16...1 point

It’s all gone a bit Trumpy tbh, Boris is “saving” Christmas to placate the braindead morons who didn’t usually vote Tory but did last time. He’s appealing to the “common muppet” but will only end up killing off a fair few of them, like old carrot face did in the US. He doesn’t care about us, he cares about money, he cares about staying in power, we’re just collateral damage to ensure he gets his way. The relaxation of rules over Christmas is going to be catastrophic, you can say “be careful” all you want but he’s given the idiots an inch so they’ll take a mile. We’re absolutely buggered to be honest, as a City we’ll be lucky to be back in Tier 1 by March at this rate.1 point

Was always going to be the case we would be in Tier 3, our infection rate might be dropping but is still horrendous. By the way, 696 people died of Coronavirus yesterday in Britain, this whole “save Xmas” stuff is nauseating.1 point
