  1. I saw this pic earlier on fb. I think it’s from the 4-2 win v Blackburn in the first game of the season after we got promoted in 1990. Some great goals that day. I used to love those floodlights. And the old Open End was deceptively big - the shallow rake made it look smaller than it was.

  2. Its so naive to try and directly compare the job Hughton is doing at Forest and the job he could of done here in a completely different environment with a completely different squad. Let’s put it another way, do you think Dean Holden and his management team would have Forest in 7th place? They are a basket case of a club with nutters running it. It’s not a fair comparison.

  3. Not a very good attitude towards people with drug/alcohol addictions. Take it from me very very few ever wanted to get caught in an addictive lifestyle - it’s a nightmare for them and of course their families. Its a dreadful disease to have. Be glad you don’t have the condition.

  4. Not to pee on anyone’s chips but flares and to a much lesser extent dungarees were very much in fashion in 1990 in the acid house / Manchester / free party scene, which the youth of Blackburn were very much part of.

  5. Forest finished above us last year & had an incredible summer transfer window. Hughton has led them to more defeats since taking over in October than Holden has with us for the whole of this season. let’s flip it - would Hughton/another manager have us 4 points off 2nd in the league with Weimann Mawson Sess Baker Paterson Walsh Williams missing for large parts of the season to date, whilst also playing Bakinson Semenyo and Vyner?

  6. I thought "I remember the 1990s and I never wore clothes like that"! Then I realised they are Blackburn fans so it's really the 1950s.

  8. It's the only comparison we can make though, isn't it...? If CH (or any other manager, or indeed DH) had come in had us hovering above the relegation zone, after a few perfectly comfortable seasons under LJ, being deemed not good enough, then there'd be melt down here. If CH had come here and had us sat withing touching distance of the top 2, I imagine people would be delighted and pointing out that DH would never have managed that..!

  9. Joe Williams is a figment of our collective imaginations and Liam Walsh got bored so walked back to Coventry and after a brief visit to the plastic surgeon is masquerading as a goal scoring Liam Kelly

  10. Yeh, miss it also TBH. Went in the away end a few times also when the Dolman queue was massive at 2.50pm. What I remember (quite fondly) was just how loud the home sections were when you were stood there as an “away fan”. The way the old ground was built, all the noise would descend on that away end. Great memories of the old ground. Was there when only 5Kish were turning up in the old Div 4. But those 5K made a lot more noise that the 25K that normally go nowadays - weird!

  11. I honestly never got the love in with Hartley. He was decent on his day, but alot of what he did well was down to having that (at the time) awesome Nicky Maynard, who turned Hartley's long balls upfield into great passes. He was supposed to be a hard as nails midfield general, who couldn't hack it down south and went back up to Scotland because he was homesick. A 30+ year old who was homesick... Always felt he never lived up to the reputation or esteem that he's afforded by many here.

  13. £750k ? You’re hoping .....what for one of the best footballers that we’ve had at this club in last 10yrs ? , the one who’s impressing pundits with his Premier League displays........ that one ? Ohhhh no we binned him for a whole £200k https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/report-confirms-exact-transfer-fee-4242135 Every time I watch Leeds , it’s sickening , Im struggling to think of a more ridiculous sale by this Club since we failed to insert an add on clause for Andy Cole

  16. The word was he turnt, indeed rocked, up giving it the "big I am" and "hadn't done his homework." Whereas it is now becoming patently clear that we couldn't spell or pronounce his name properly and he told us to do one.

  17. And rightly so with a pretty consistent 20 man matchday squad. One thing that always puzzled me about LJ, with his so-say different approach to management and psychology, drones, grass length etc, was his willingness to chuck his own players under the bus when it went tits up. Magnússon & Moore certainly spring to mind. Those conversations should be behind closed doors. You don’t get respect by publicly shaming your staff to make you look better.

  20. We can easily rest O’Dowda if he’s fatigued and we don’t have to to start Brunt either..... Bentley Hunt | Mariappa | Moore | Kalas | Rowe Nagy | Bakinson | Massengo Wells | Diedhiou I’d be totally happy to see this tomorrow night, gives us Vyner to cover the right side of defence. O’Dowda can cover LWB if need be (not ideal, but hey-ho), Brunt the other midfield option, whilst allowing Semenyo to go back to his impact sub role. Martin to cover Fam as he tires.

  21. Undoubtedly the best and most sensible post I’ve read of yours Well said - excellent post Not just drug / alcohol tho - .gambling becoming a massive problem , any addiction has a cost , normally in several ways Anyone scorning shows a complete lack of awareness , and any mh condition or / and an addiction can strike the strongest ,

  22. it’s very saddening that attitudes like @Red Alert’s still exist. Shows that however much progress has been made there is still more to go. There are still the “what does he have to be depressed about” and “why doesn’t the just stop taking drugs/drink” brigades to educate.

  26. We're doing ok given injuries and the fact we have a new coaching team. I was disappointed with Kalas giving away a free kick so early in that position and it was always gonna be hard going from 1-0 down. We generally looked tired and lacked energy. Vyner is learning and will make mistakes, but have been good . Semenyo will blow a bit hot and cold. Bakinson won't always dominate a midfield and is still rusty from his lay off, but I am enjoying watching them all get game time and mostly do well. I don't hold with chucking all the strikers on so early in the game, when what we needed is better supply. Would have preferred to see Opi Edwards on earlier and to keep our shape with Famara replacing Martin (who needs a break). It can be frustrating but I am enjoying the season so far. We would need to improve dramatically (perhaps with players coming back) to challenge for promotion. Still want to see O'Dowda and Semenyo in a front three with another (ideally the pacy striker we haven't got right now) but probably Wells in his preferred striker role. Think Nagy showed what he can do as an attacking rather than holding midfielder, so think he needs to play there. As things stand it's a matter of seeing who's fit and picking a formation to suit.

  28. It’s not great. Mawson is a huge miss. The one defender we have who would have dealt with yesterday, Baker, has not played a game yet this season. We have a car crash of a midfield and brought in a player specifically to address it who is yet to tie his laces up for the club. We have two midfield players that can get you a goal, one carrying an injury that has to be managed the other one kaput for the season. We brought in a right back to spread the load and he has been out for weeks. We are now down to sticking the likes of Sam Bell and Opi Edward’s on the pitch to try and change things atm. It’s not an average injury situation imo.

  29. As much as SL seems to be coming across as more and more of a dithering old fool as the years go on he certainly isn’t stupid and is a shrewd as they come.. He is more than prepared to lead the fanbase on with false promises if it means we sell season tickets. The problem is the fanbase will only keep lapping it up for so long IMO. I for one am getting sick and tired of seeing him spout that the aim is Premier League football and at least a top 6 finish when year in year out we fail to produce.

  31. It’s well documented over recent years that we have an okay start to a season giving us false confidence only to see it all flushed away around Christmas and beyond. Are we seeing this slide already? It’s fair to say, despite what many might say, performances haven’t been good at all. Stats would back me up regarding the lack of possession, lack of goals, attempts on goal etc etc yet we have somehow claimed points despite that. To me, those points have papered over the cracks and that game against Rotherham brought everything to the surface. i honestly barring maybe the Preston game, have never witnessed a worse performance all round. I don’t care if people say Rotherham are hard to play against. Majority of other teams have done the job and so should we if we have promotion ambitions. it was an absolute embarrassment. No fight, no quality, no intelligence just nothing. How was it so bad coming off in my opinion a fortunate win vs blackburn? I don’t accept the knackered scenario in the main and if that was an issue, we could have freshened it up with some that were in the bench from the start. Fam, mariappa, moore, massengo. Not only are the players to blame but the management did themselves no favours. i just can’t understand how and why it was so bad.. my ramblings aside and going back to main point, are we already on our Christmas/New Year slide to obscurity? personally I think yes and Millwall on Tuesday will further confirm it.

  33. People used to laugh when they gave out the crowd. I recall that end of season, doncaster game, they printed it was 2000, under what they said, more like 5. Then they blamed a apprentice for this in the evening post. When no mans land is open, you know theres a big gate.

Some people can switch off & not give a shit about what’s happening around them, others feel like there’s a reason for it & can only blame themselves & see no way out!

  42. On the whole yes I would say the recruitment has been bad. Look at what we have now a side with little fighting spirit that is easily bullied. And a midfield that creates little if nothing. Too many players who wait for others to do the hard graft and strikers that struggle to score on the few times they get a chance. Indeed in many games we struggle to get a shot on target. Top it off with DH and I would say we could have done a lot better.

  43. Huge blow these 2 have been injured because it's pretty clear to me from what DH has said that both would have been in his first choice starting 11 when the season started. Williams - DH's first big signing, a proven consistent Championship player he surely intended to build his midfield around, and 'big part to play' Walsh - far more creative than anything we have had on offer recently, could/would have made a huge difference and the strong indication from DH is both will feature regularly as soon as they are fit enough to do so. One of the few things I'm looking forward to with this sometimes almost unwatchable City team is these 2 coming in and shaking things up in a really positive way.

  47. Have the signings been that bad though, as a whole? Injuries notwithstanding of which there have been plenty! LJ may not have liked some of them, and yes there were some notable wastes of money- and again some who were rather injury prone to say the least, but ability wise to me it doesn't matter too much who signs them whether it's manager or agent- I think our squad has decent ability, has had decent ability. Is our recruitment brilliant, top class? No. Is it good enough when reasonable fitness to push for top 6? I'd say so.

  48. Technically we didn't as he was on loan at the time, but I get what you're saying. Always thought he looked decent for us, and was surprised we didn't at least try and get him permanently.

  50. We would have done well to sign a lot of our loanees from that season. Saville, Kane, Tavernier and even Matt Smith would have been valuable first couple of seasons. When you look at that squad and where they are now, it is no wonder it was such a good season.
