  1. I'm sure everyone wishes him well in his upcoming battle

  2. Many on here, myself included, would've been very happy to sell Bobby Reid for £500k or less up until 2017 when he was 24 years of age. Young players need time. What's great about Semenyo is he has the untrainable physical attributes for the modern game. He's fast, athletic, tall and powerful. He has a decent footballing brain too. Composure and positioning can be trained and generally comes with experience. Semenyo doesn't have a typical academy schooling and it shows at times. It'll come. A good comparison is Tyrone Mings. I've heard this from someone who used to coach at Chippenham and knows his family. He's a good comparison as he had a fairly similar trajectory. He was playing non league football until about 19 but had all the physical attributes for the top. Ipswich, and later Bournemouth, identified this. They knew they could train the footballing side, but what he had was the unteachable athletic advantages for the modern game. A few years later and he's a regular Prem player and has England caps. Bournemouth also signed Lloyd Kelly partly based on this who was identified as having perfect athletic/physical attributes for the modern game. This desire to say "I told you so" about young players is strange. We've seen it this season with Morrell, Massengo and Semenyo.. it's also starting to creep in with Bakinson. Just give young players time to develop and improve.

  3. Hopefully it'll be one of the less aggressive forms of NHL which have a very decent survival rate. I wish him well.

  8. Johnny Quigley, Bobby Kellard and Gerry Gow; all great, tough midfielders from my youth and, sadly, all now departed. Whilst I never had the privilege of meeting the late Gerry Gow, I had the dubious pleasure of meeting Johnny Quigley and, indeed, played in the same team as him for one season - he would have been in his mid/late 40s at the time, and I can confirm he was an extremely hard b*stard, both on and off the pitch. Once (in drink) he threatened to punch me/knock me out when I had the temerity to suggest that, alongside Bobby Kellard and Gerry Gow, he was one of my favourite City midfielders - he dismissed Bobby Kellard as a fat Cockney b*stard and, whilst they were both Glaswegians, he dismissed Gerry Gow as not being as good or as hard as he thought he was and that he wouldn't have lasted two minutes against him were they ever to have played against each other. Bobby Kellard, in contrast, I found quite warm and softly spoken, though he certainly had a very strong 'cockney' accent. I had occasion to meet him on several occasions professionally when he became an antique dealer after retiring and he was always very welcoming and happy to chat about football and life in general. When last I heard,he was living contentedly in Canvey Island. R.I.P.

  9. I give up. The first goal was an own goal by a Rovers player planting it in from 12 yards. I drunk quite abit yesterday and have only woke up so I might be being wooshed. Or come to think about it I might have drunk that much that it didn't even happen?! I'm going back to bed......

  11. We can all agree 2020 has been a year like no other any of us have experienced before, and with that has brought many added pressures to people at a time of year where suicide rates increase. Please, if you feel alone or are struggling, try to talk to someone. Life might not always feel like living and you may feel like you are at rock bottom, but the world is a much better place with you in it. Personally this site really helps me, I have really low and negative days but keeping in touch with the Bristol City family is a massive thing. If anyone ever feels alone, please reach out. You can message me, or one of the many other supportive posters on here, or even talk to someone. I won't divulge personal information but I can't thank those people enough that have picked up when I've been struggling and taken the time to message me. We come from all backgrounds, beliefs, age groups and football teams etc, but I believe everyone on here would look out for a friend in need. A few of the Bristol City social media accounts shared the below today. Hopefully it'll also appear on the official website too.

  13. wow. Well done you! Yet for many (me included) he was our best player yesterday. For all my criticism of O’Dowda over the while, I’ve never wanted anything more than for him to come good and fulfil the potential he has. He bloody winds me up, but I’ve never wanted a player to fail to prove my judgement right. What a fan. ??

  16. Yep, Bristol, England, Lions, Bath, Ireland, Munster, Stade Francais, Dings, whoever - it needs to be stopped. Can’t believe Dickson didn’t do anything at the time - may have helped KS if he did!

  17. Totally agree LR. We are seeing this creeping into the game a bit more now and we have to be careful in how it's dealt with. I don't want people to think that I'm only laying into Bristol or England players either. I was only complaining to my friends about a couple of the Munster players chatting back to the referee the other week against Clermont. There was also at least one Clermont player waving an imaginary card, which I'm sure nobody wants to see. Dylan Hartley got an 11-week ban for calling Wayne Barnes a ******* cheat. Obviously more serious than what Sinckler said but I expect him to get a couple of weeks to cool off all the same. It's good that he's apologised but he needs to be very careful. It's not the first time he's lost his cool on the pitch. I don't really care about a bit of swearing being picked up on the mic but when it's directed at the officials then it's another thing entirely.

  18. Agree - in fact the constant apologising annoys me far more than the swearing. But this time it was pretty shocking from KS amd direct at the ref and deserves some sort of censure imho. Getting annoyed with the way refs are starting to be treated, and shouted / sworn at and it needs curtailing IMO.

  19. It doesn’t bother me at all, but that was the clearest swearing I’ve ever heard at a rugby or football match on tv. The commentators are always apologising for ‘language’ but I rarely hear what they are appologing for, but Sinckler’s was loud and clear ? Rugby seem far, far less tolerant of any abuse or backchatting to the Refs. Most of the Refs treat the players like they are in a PE lesson and they are the teacher. Maybe as Sinckler is an England International and an example as such they are making an example of him?

  21. Neil Lennon and 13 Celtic players are now self isolating after one player tested positive after their warm weather training in Dubai, what was already looking not the brightest decision to go is now looking positively stupid and will likely cost them whatever slim chance they had of retaining the league https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55525905

  28. I would take the line that these are the submitted accounts for 2018 AP and so they fall within regulation 1.1.3 of the FFP regulations. Accounts can be restated where there is a material omission or mis-statement in those accounts, materiality is relevant but the stadium transfer is clearly material. FRS 102 states that an error that needs accounts to be restaed arise as follows: ‘Omissions from, and misstatements in, the entity’s financial statements for one or more prior periods arising from a failure to use, or misuse of, reliable information that: (a) Was available when financial statements for those periods were authorised for issue and (b) Could reasonably be expected to have been obtained and taken into account in the preparation and presentation of those financial statements.’ In the SWFC case the auditor clearly decided that the adjustment in respect of the stadium sale should be made and therefore the informatiom was both available and taken into account, it was hardly hidden or not discussed. All in all that makes it tricky to argue that a prior year adjustment is appropriate, in which case SWFC may well have stuffed themselves.

  29. Loved the little bloke. He started poorly as he was a replacement for fan favorite Johnny Quigley, but we suddenly realised what a great, tough little player he was. RIP Bobby

  31. Absolutely brilliant performance. The commitment and skill of the players is a joy to behold. Pat Lam and his background staff deserve a hell a lot of credit. When people talk about an ethos or culture at a club you're sometimes left struggling to grasp exactly what that actually is. With the Bears, however, it's clear to see what they're all about. I only started going to watch the rugby for the social side of things when Bristol made the switch to AG. But as time went on became more and more interested in it. I really, really don't like to say it, but I'm currently enjoying the rugby more than the football, and I think it's been like it for a while unfortunately. Another sad thing being that the fans haven't been present in person to watch the Bears recent success. A shame for everyone connected with the club.

  32. For anyone reading this thread and thinking they may have scored some stunning headed goal... They didn't. It was a fairly decent, average looking header. Not sure why is was even worthy of a mention in the first place to be honest. Certainly not worth compromising your integrity by infesting your hard drive with evidence of having watched highlights of a Rovers game. My Facebook is now going to be full of adverts for disinfectant, herpes treatments, tents and discount patio chairs - because they'll think I'm a Rovers fan...! Really not worth it.

I'm another that lost a parent some time ago now but there still isn't one day I don't remember the happier times. My sincere best wishes to you and your family and I hope you are allowed to travel once your wife is on the road to recovery and you make it in time.

  43. Personally it is the only thing I have in my life outside of working at the moment Before this season I couldn't care less about anything outside Bristol City, but I have taken an interest in other teams all around the country and god forbid found myself watching the Premier League games recently too My one frustration about football is how some players carry on with life as if there is nothing going on I appreciate that this is selfish but I would personally really struggle without having sport on TV at the moment.
