  1. In that forty years, they've tried all sorts to get someone to build them a stadium, or give them some land. Blamed everyone and everything when it's gone wrong and, even formed a political party to fight the local elections in "Bristol", while they were paying the city of Bath their business rates. and blaming Bristol for their troubles. They have also done everything in their power to stop our club moving away from them, from opposing our new stadium, the superstore at AG, furnishing opponents with information, to not supporting the WC bid. They are a stain on our city, as much as those " anarchy type protesters" who choose violence against the authorities. I'd also go as far as to say that, some of those protesters, even looked and dressed like gasheads. Whenever they bring 1982 up, I always without fail correct them. Even some of our supporters believe we went bankrupt back then. A deal was brokered and accepted by the creditors to "accept" 20p in the pound for outstanding debt. A new company was formed, which took over all assets, except players of worth like Mick Harford and Jan Moller, who were sold to pay those debts. That new company also took over the registration of the football club, so effectively, it was a takeover by a newly formed company. Not too much different than whenever a company gets taken over, which is what I expect will happen to them and, this time the owner will have to swallow their own debts, before selling assets to replace that loss.

  7. The singer was a poorly paid care worker before the band took off. He grew up caring for his disabled mother in a single-parent household. I'm not a big fan of the music, but he's hardly Jacob Rees-Mogg.

  14. Something slightly different to help you get through the international break. Jon Beavis, the drummer from Bristol-band IDLES joins OSIB. We discuss the band's meteoric rise, the years of misery it took to get there, his favourite gigs and his inability to stage-dive. Not a huge amount of Bristol City chat in this one, but a great interview nonetheless! If you've not heard their music, I suggest you check it out. http://linktr.ee/osibpodcast

  15. Hasn’t taken him long to buy into their DNA of being the poor ‘family club’ victims. I lost count of the amount of points they stole in derbies from us during the late 80’s. They forgot they had at least 7 or 8 years of being complete spawny bastards and that includes their 1990 title winning shower of misfits. Classic delusional Gashead. Believes his tinpot club is a major attraction even though it’s a cess pit of shite. It’s like trying to convince a tramp that a massive cardboard box is better to sleep in than a bedsit!

  17. Massively respect Idles for what they have achieved just not my type of music at all. Completely irrelevant though....a brilliant interview and very interesting to hear band dynamics, how hard they worked and made me reminisce about going to gigs 1-2 times per week in Bristol before having kids put a stop to all that !

  28. True! They have 34 points from 38 games so 0.89 ppg so 7 more points if they keep that form going, so will end with 41. I think even increasing that ppg to 1 to end on 46 points would mean 12 points from final 8 so 4 wins, never happening with the team they have, and even if it did would 46 be enough, not sure if would although some equally terrible teams down there

  29. I don't think the question is "will Joey leave", I think it is more "why the hell would Preston want him"? Absolutely no chance in my opinion, but I wouldn't mind being proved wrong on this at all.

  30. This thread is now up to 2400 pages. The same number of pages Jaily Birdon's excuses ran to after the latest defeat for the Rent Boys. Agent Snakey, Agent Hobbit, Agent Pitman. Have any of their run-in opponents got a player named Ted Ashton? That'd be the final indignity for the Scum...

  33. Grew up loving a lot of punk; the Clash, the Sex Pistols, the Ramones are some of my favourite bands of all time. IDLES are fantastic and one of the only bands that I think can hold the torch of their predecessors in the modern times of Imagine Dragons and Greta van Fleet. Joy as an Act of Resistance is fantastic.

  38. I tried to listen to the 'game' on Talk Sport 2 whilst driving down from the North this afternoon. I gave it my best shot but had to eventually switch to Radio 4 Extra as the commentary left me completely perplexed. No matter what names the commentator was saying had possession of the football, I just didn't have a clue as to which team they played for. Totally impossible to enjoy for me, mind. ?

  46. I can relate to this. Honestly, it was incessant during the 80's. Before that time I hadn't been particularly bothered about Rovers. They hid under their rocks during the late 70's but crawled out when the wheels started to come off at Ashton Gate. I didn't understand why they wanted to ram their dislike of City down my throat, but in later years a good mate of mine who is unfortunately a Gashead revealed the problem from his and his mates perspective and for me it highlighted quite clearly why the problem is actually theirs and not ours...... When we got promoted to Division One it was all about Bristol City, not just City but the prospect of having the best players and teams in the land coming to Bristol on a regular basis. Suddenly all of the newspaper main headlines were about City, the local TV sports reporting was City first, the main sports news and match of the day brought even more attention to Bristol City and for Rovers fans it felt like they were being bombarded by City related interest. They felt aggrieved by this as there were two teams in Bristol and they felt like they were being forgotten about. Even when they had a great result they were always pushed down the pecking order in terms of coverage and reporting. They saw it as a 'bias' towards Bristol City and became frustrated, annoyed, envious and jealous and took it out on the City fan base. In reality, it's no different from hearing about the Premier League nowadays and rarely hearing about either of our local clubs because there isn't a wider interest. It is why they always feel hard done by and why they continuously play the victim. So when the bubble eventually burst and we crashed down the leagues they reveled in our demise. At last we could begin to feel like they had felt, insignificant to the world of football. This underlying bitterness and resentment has continued to fester throughout the years and every so often it rises to the surface. It happens if they win and we lose, it happens when something good happens for us (like the arrival of SL and the rebuild of AG and the club's infrastructure), or when we are in the spotlight (like the Carabao Cup run). Times like these are when they become extremely agitated. If they win promotion they're suddenly "Coming for Bristol City". They can't just be content with their own success and leave it at that. Only a few weeks ago they picked up a win on the same day that City lost and immediately took to social media "Singing The Blues". They just can't help themselves. They compare everything to City as their yardstick. It really is very sad, but my god, doesn't it make them an easy target to wind up and rip the piss out of?!!!
