  2. Dustbin thread , we're known as 'binners' by Norwich fans, but enough about them. So we beat your rivals today, wasn't anything pretty in fact it were mostly dire and uninspiring but imagine you'd be pleased to see them beat. We're TRYING to get back to the Championship again but on today's evidence may have to wait a while longer. Sorry about your loss today serioiusly I'd want you to do well and see Bristol City back in the top flight (a vague recollection from early schooldays) Any consolation I'd expect Rovers to be a League Two club by the summer, they had to win today to have any real chance but gave us a goal through one of their own players before Judge made it two. Could have taken a point from it by the end, we were effectively poor once again but for now just 'enjoying' the moment and thankful for the three points. Sorry to intrude.

  3. Special praise for HNM. Doesn’t sound to good for some players. Music to my ears . Let this man rebuild this side

  5. I thought the benefit of getting NP as our Manager was that he was experienced and has won promotion to the Premiership and had a proven track record. And I would suggest he knows a hell of a lot more than you or me or anyone else currently at our club in developing teams and a winning mentality. So I find it disappointing that supporters are on his case after two months. When we have 5 odd years of management by novices and a transfer system that shipped out quality and bought mediocrity at best. He is our best chance of turning the club around on the pitch but needs time. And as to him talking about this "together thing", then have a look what Pam Lam has achieved with this "together thing" at Bristol Bears. Promotion to the Premiership, a European trophy and currently top of the league by 11 points. So maybe this together thing works.

  6. I think most of these players are done here and they know it. These performances have been 2-3 years in the making and I think we have a far better chance of sorting it out with NP in charge than Holden. He has got the contacts, experience and respect of players that Dean could never have at this stage of his career. I think he made himself clear enough in that interview what’s going to happen without directly saying it.

  7. I’ve read on here a lot from certain posters about the quality of our squad. I have just watched a 7th consecutive home defeat & really do wonder what they are seeing. Our midfield is absolutely pitiful, today Massengo aside it was absolute rubbish, Lansbury awful, Bakinson non existent & the invisible man, Walsh unavailable yet again. Up front Wells was woeful & Semenyo aside we offered nothing at all. Defensively Rowe struggled throughout but to be fair to him, it was his first game in a while, Hunt was poor again. We are a million miles from where we want to be & at present those in this “amazing” squad look a bottom six side, not a top six one.

  8. I'd like to see you say that to Cotterill's face. But let's face it, you don't have the best track record with that.

  9. Fascinating interview. First time he is genuinely perplexed at our squad from a desire perspective, and he has broken away from his “together” rhetoric. Also intimated that players get injured too often and are not “robust” enough. If you want to add 2+2 and get 4, he is basically saying that culturally we are soft and comfortable. Interesting that he singles out HN Massengo as I alluded to earlier. Possibly the best manager (CV-wise) we have had in the recent past, getting a tune out of one of the best young talents we have had in recent years, where others did not have a clue how to progress him, and stating it publicly.

  10. Think they need to appoint now, and then NP can really go to work. Think he’s going softly, softly at the mo’....he’s only here short term. Get him appointed and then back him....like when LJ finally left out Tomlin.

  11. If they want to be here they'll need to get onboard with it. He can't wait until he gets the players he wants before starting work on the culture he want to instill. The season was over by the time Pearson arrived. Personally I like his style. Much more considered and reflective than I imagined he would be. I don't want a manager that is constantly ranting and raving in public. I'm sure he's perfectly able to say what needs to be said to individual players when they aren't performing to them in person rather than via the media.

  12. Clowns turning on Pearson already. Pep Guardiola couldn't sort this shite out in 6 weeks.

  13. I'm not sure about giving Pearson the benefit of the doubt, I strongly suspect he's looking at what he's got and thinking ahead. His track record earns him the time to do that - in my opinion.

  15. He really needs to be judged on a full season, plus a big summer clear out.

  16. None of us know what goes on behind the scenes, but I do wonder if he is putting too much emphasis on this "together" thing. A lot of the players probably know that they will be elsewhere next season, so whats the incentive for them? Plus, his team selection is a bit baffling; consistently playing Hunt for one thing, persevering with Wells when he's not performing and putting right back Simpson at left back when Towler is on the bench. I know that I will probably take some flak for this post because most people regard NP as the second coming, but I've seen nothing yet that is much different to LJ or his successor. Finally, I wish he'd show his discontent with our performances. Too much smiling after games for me, perhaps that's his style, but a bit of anger wouldn't go amiss. Tin hat firmly on.

  21. Steve Cotterill created an incredible team spirit with a fairly small group of players. He should have been backed in the summer following promotion to The Champ and he made a huge statement when he only named 6 subs at Sheff Weds on the first game of the season. I grew up in in Cheltenham and what he achieved at Whaddon Road was nothing short of a miracle. Believe me, Steve Cotterill has a big presence in the dressing room and all of that L1 promotion winning team speak highly of him. Team spirit and togetherness goes a long way towards success and SC created a fantastic culture that we should have built on. I think Big Nige is a similar type of character to SC and i really hope he is backed in the summer otherwise we could be having similar conversations in 12 months time.

  22. Looks like another season of mid table obscurity largely down to managerial errors by Ashton and invisible Jon earlier this season and poor old Nige has inherited a squad lacking real quality and desperately low on confidence. I think he’s done well to get a tune out them albeit away from AG. Let hope he’s here next campaign and has at least something of a war chest to bring in the type of players he thinks we need in order to become a force in the Championship. Big Nige has a very decent CV and is a proper manager - the kind that should been appointed after LJ was sacked and for all we know he could well be planning for next season already.............. Away at Coventry on Monday and another three points...........

  23. Just watched that interview . Excellent. It is how we have been thinking for three years or so. The squad and attitude has not been right, for all the talk, actions speak louder. Surprised he picked out one player, HNM , but you can understand why, and it described what he expects from players. First time we have seen him mighty annoyed I would say, When Cotts left, I personally wrote on here that the one thing I hope we did not lose was that almighty team spirit and desire amongst the group. We did lose it, ok evolution happens, but we have been signing the wrong players. It is exciting that we have the opportunity now to change that, and whilst it will be very hard, as a minimum we should have players wanting to play for each other and the club. We do have a few bright sparks in there, it is not all bad. A shame he has a few that are injured and he cannot yet judge. But the first team will have between 5 and 6 new faces next season, and some of the younger hungry players will be in the 22. PS. This situation is not of Holden's making, he made it worse, but this mess has been coming for at least 3 seasons and is a result of the LJ/MA random recruitment nonsense. It did not happen overnight.

  24. Anyone judging Dean Holden’s credentials in managing a squad of Championship footballers, against Nigel Pearson’s ability to do it, should frankly not bother unless they are on a wind-up. With respect. Pearson’s job in sorting this out, has been made considerably worse with the appointment of Holden and the support network/player acquisition strategy needed to baby-sit him through having even half a chance. To then judge Nigel Pearson against that, with what he has inherited both in legacy and in culture is laughable.

  25. Yep, make it permanent, and let him get on with it. That last 1m15s....music to my ears.

  26. I don't really care about interviews. But I thought licking Lansbury was a poor decision when Vyner is available. Also Rowe and Palmer on that left side was never really going to give us much width. Yet on the other side we had a full back who charges up and down the line and Semenyo who is not drifting inside all the time. Might not seem like that big a thing, but I felt watching the game they were big problems. Recently not been that impressed with Pearson. But it seems he will be here next season and hopefully he sorts it out.

  28. There is clearly a lot wrong at this club beyond players and manager. I really don’t want to hear anymore about our state of the art training facility. We did better when using Ashton Park

  31. Laughable that you imply that thousands of non-renewals are down to LJ and not, y'know, due to the Global Pandemic. Plenty of reasonable criticisms of LJ (that you have used aplenty) without trying to pin this on him as well.

  32. SC’s success was gained against a background of lack of backing and freedom to manage once he obtained promotion a season early. If the owner had dealt properly with the situation on promotion who knows how far SC could have taken us. This is why I am fearful that the past may be repeated with the owner and Pearson

  33. What a reflection that is on our record breaking wage bill and huge cost of assembling the squad. It is why I, and some others (not everyone), believe MA should be shown the door. Just this week he was clearly saying "When I signed..." so by his own admission he is clearly to blame. If he stays it should only be as an administrator with no direct involvement in player identification for recruitment.

  34. Really!? You're really going to compare Pearson's record since being here, to Holden's, who let's not forget, had the end of last season, a pre-season and summer transfer window, along with the winter window to bring in players that he wanted? Pearson who has had to come in and polish the brown cruddy turd that Holden left him? Tell you what, let's sack Pearson now and get in Pep, or even Klopp. Let them keep this whole entire squad, and give them a whole season with them, and see how much higher up the table we finish. Hint - we won't. This squad, is quite frankly, shit. Where it's not shit, it's threadbare at best. Tell you what, if we're still in a similar position by Christmas this year, and Pearson is still in charge, then I'll hold my hands up and say " @AshtonGreat you were right, let's get rid of him and find someone else to take over" As someone else said, it's really hard to attack the post and not the poster sometimes!

  42. This is how I see it too. I choose to be vaccinated which means I am as protected as I can be. Whether others are or not doesn't bother me. What does is having to be checked to go to a venue, be it sport, a pub or restaurant. By the start of next season it is planned that everyone will have been offered a vaccine. There is still a risk I could catch it but life is a risk. Just let us get on with it and stop infringing on people's right to enjoy life.

  43. I'm fine about it and think it's a great idea. I have absolutely no problem with showing proof to someone when I get my vaccination. There should also be considerations for those with medical reasons for not having it, but those who are deniers and think it impacts their human rights can lose out as far as I'm concerned. This is about more than just them. I know it's going to take time to get everyone vaccinated and so for the younger age groups it's going to potentially be an inconvenience in the short term, but how we tackle and manage life with the virus is so important. I really can't get my head around those arguing this is discriminatory. I assume some of these people also kick off when they want to go on holiday to some countries and have to have vaccinations before they travel.

  44. Surely some sort of brain scan is required for being at the Memorial Ground, just to check why you are at a League Two ground?
    5 points
  45. I'd rather enter Ashton Gate knowing that everyone inside is either vaccinated or negative tested. Without a vaccination passport how can you tell if the coughing, wheezing bloke next to you is Covid free? Same applies for cinemas, theatres & planes. Pubs are a different situation, much more passing trade. ps Vaccination passport required to exit the Memorial Ground
