  1. A perfect opportunity to exercise ‘Fan Power’. We have no manager for next season, a chairman seemingly moving to Bermuda, a CEO flirting with a club a league below us, an Owner looking to sell-up and currently only 14 pro-players contracted for next season. What a time for all fans, as a whole collective, to stand up and say “what’s going on - sort it out”. No one should renew until answers to all of the above are given. Yes, many of us will of course renew in the end, but it would be good if people could just hold off for a few weeks to at least show some sort of reaction to the shitshow we currently have. If you renew in the first 2 weeks, you are showing Steve that you are happy to accept anything. Just take a stance - even if only temporarily.

  2. We are literally in a once in a generation scenario with many players out of contract and an experienced, proven Manager actually throwing his hat in the ring having already had a 6 week plus head start, knowledge wise, on the existing staff. It would be a crying shame if we aren't able to take advantage of that.

  4. I get an awful feeling the less than football savvy owner will let Nige go and get in yet another yes man. Guess he will spend bulk of his time at Ashton Gate persuading MA to stay. Worst of all worlds. In near despair over how our club is being run.

  5. Just heard same just now - announcing Ashton leaving tomorrow. Also that SL has told NP that if he still wants the job, it’s his....announcement not tomorrow.

  7. You never miss an opportunity to go on the attack against SL and have been doing so for years, What happened for this long standing grudge, did your pension investment go down, you did not get an interview for HL, you just don't like rich successful people or just a moaning old git

  8. Bit of a strange anti-Pearson narrative your are stating. Since Pearson arrived we are won 3, drawn 2, lost 5, 11 points, -2 gd. The 10 league games prior to Pearson’s arrival were won 2, drawn 0, lost 8, points 6, -13 gd. I think Holden’s record over the most recent set of data (ie 10 games for each) is vastly inferior.

  10. 4 of them caught out at a party at players house, including potential England player James Madison. Dropped from Squad for West ham game ,lose 3 2 how pleased will their team mates have been. Unbelievable that they think with their profile and inviting loads of girls they can do it and get away with it. Madison has probably ended any euro hopes he may have had and Champions League qualification has been dented. The intelligence of some footballers is unbelievable. I was hoping Leicester made it this year but definitely changed my mind. Selfish ********.

  11. Then he takes all that comes with starting from scratch in looking for a permanent manager. Planning is the key word. Executing that plan is the difference. He can start recruitment planning. Is he gonna start sounding out agents and contacts about availability for the benefit of a club he doesn’t know if he’s gonna be in charge of. Especially if other Champ clubs are interested in him (Kid post earlier). Not imho. He’ll possibly keep that close to his chest at this point. Plus undoubtedly lots of other little things that us outsiders won’t appreciate he has to do. Out of interest, have you ever managed people who are leaving your employment with no job to go to? If you have what techniques did you use to motivate them? Did they all respond in the same manner? I have, in some cases it’s better they don’t even come in to work, they have a negative impact on others. Others maintain professionalism to the end. Re Holden, did an okay job results wise. Performances started well (imho - many disagree) but dropped off a cliff. And then looking at trajectory of results and performances near the end of his reign, do you think results would’ve much different, better or worse? Do you think the contract strategy played a part? Do you then think he would have the clarity (from experience) to understand the issues and progress us this summer?

  12. Better late than never. Pearson deal needs to be done by Saturday, or I'd imagine he'll start talking to other clubs that are showing an interest in him (two Championship clubs as I understand).

  14. Yes, you’d kind of hope it’s a final sit down to: - review the findings - review plan to address findings - if agreed, cost out the plan then appoint NP. If he doesn’t like the findings, god knows what next!

  15. Let`s just wait and see shall we? There`s no point in jumping the gun and SL will be fully aware of the majority of supporters` views on NP.

  16. I thought Rodgers' interview yesterday was impressive. Made the point that it would be easy to just fine the players and move on but the money they're on makes it immaterial, so decided they shouldn't play as that would be a proper sanction even though that would impact on the team. Didn't go overboard in criticising them, said they'd be back involved this week and that would be the end of it.

  17. Lots of information being leaked at the moment. I can share the reason that Lansdown wants a face to face; it's because he only recruits managers based on smell. Candidates must stand in his office for upwards of 45 minutes as he works them with his highly sensitive nostrils. Hughton was a real let down, wearing a squirt from a 40 year old bottle of Joop! Homme, whilst Holden's natural aromas combined nicely with his Lynx Africa. I hear from Pearson's side that he had bathed with a bergamot scented bath bomb and will of course be sporting a splash of Dior Sauvage (what else?!) You can't do this stuff on Zoom calls.

  18. I’ve been in the pub all afternoon so excuse the spelling mistakes (if any). Quite wankly, the opinion amongst my mat3s is that if SL can not see an opportunity with our Nige, then he needs to Kaufman off back to his island, because we on ere ain’t putting up with no more Briz Spot shit. You can shove yer season ticket up yer arse Steve! Shambles of a whore house is Briz Sport.

  19. To a degree I get the results concern. However, the reason I’m impressed by Pearson is within a month he identified all the key issues on the playing side of the Club that have held us back since Cotts left. These issues are not quick-fix. They are ingrained at the Club, from the very topped have spread throughout the playing and support staff - some of whom, I suspect, are not fit-for-purpose for a Championship Club with aspirations for Premier League status. Does he have the solutions? Don’t know, but I suspect more likely to have them than most.

  20. I’m not going to panic until something is announced. If we keep NP, a straight shooter, honest, experienced and successful manager, Great, all good. If we decide not to offer NP a deal and bring in a nice guy, yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir yes man, I can honestly say that would be it for me. Until anything is announced, I don’t seem much point getting irate. It would be nice to get a resolution soon as this a vital step for the clubs direction.

  22. All the players are decent as individuals. The problem is, we are a squad of all-sorts. There is no balance. It started under LJ...and its continued...shuffling the pack, different formations etc, trying to find a formula that will work. It's so disjointed...it's like oil on water. We went from a pressing team and then introduced Fam. Imo...it's gone backwards ever since. We played narrow...then introduced Eliasson. Aimless balls into the box to no one. One minute a flack back four, next a five and wing backs. We bought players in a scatter gun approach. LJ liked his Clubs in the bag for every situation. Instead of clubs that suited the course so to speak. It was like playing a pitch and putt with a bag of woods and long irons. It's all over the shop.

  23. What stats are you working from then? The ones I gave are the 10 games since Pearson arrived vs the 10 games immediately prior to when Pearson arrived. What other sample of data would be more accurate and timely than that? As for your ‘singing praise’ comment, I’d respectfully disagree. I’m not lavishing any praise on Pearson, in fact I’m one of few on here who has questioned whether he will achieve what we want from him if he’s without his trusty steeds of Shakespeare and Walsh. His record without Shakespeare isn’t as good as with. But I will simply not entertain any argument that suggests that Holden was doing a better job. If Holden was still here, I am 100% certain we’d still be on 39 points and heading for the drop.

  24. Do we actually know that for sure? Or do we rely on websites like this, or the Sun, or whatever? We normally have our “plane spotters” confirming flights? He might be on his way....it is 10 days since he told 3Ps pod he wanted to meet NP face to face (within a couple / few weeks, so within that timeframe). Having read Covid travel rules for Guernsey I believe if he was really worried he’d have been over by now, using business travel as an excuse. If he wanted to get rid of NP, why not do it the easy way, over Zoom, or get his CEO to do it. I’ll happily say I got the situation wrong if he’s flown over today / tomorrow to sack him / tell him he’s not staying beyond this season. I struggle with comments like in bold above. I’ve tried to write this a few different ways and failed miserably, so it won’t come across right, so apologies in advance. Why try to predict the future to justify the your stance now? Can’t you see the situation he’s arrived in is completely different to a normal appointment after a sacking? He’s taken over a side on a rapid slide (that’s normal for a sacking admittedly), with a squad knowing they won’t be offered a contract til later in the season. The contract situation is a cluster#### of a strategy and shows unbelievable naivety. It’s not his staff, it’s not his players, etc. That’s massively different to even when Holden took over last season. He’s quickly steered us away from a relegation fight, yes, we’re not mathematically safe, but we will be in the Championship next season. He’s done that whilst seeing the whites of certain players eyes. He’s rumbled some of them. He’s given himself opportunity to see many players in a City shirt, to assess the situation fully. I think he deserves a lot of credit for that. Next season expectations are a complete unknown. Much will depend on what scope he has to keep the existing players, re-contract any current players he wants to keep and who he can recruit, including staff too. Some people’s views on NP have changed because of the DS signing. I have no problem with that rationale, that is each person’s prerogative. But I think some posters have used that as a stick to beat on what NP has done since he arrived. Yep....He has turned the form of a team that had lost 6 league games on the trot (7 losses in all comps) that could’ve got embroiled in a relegation scrap into a team that is safe (yeah yeah, not mathematically) with 5 games to go. The point I’m trying to make is that there are plenty of reasons to not buy a SC for next season. Anyone unsure might see a positive managerial appointment as the reason to go for it. There will be a lot of apathy if Pearson isn’t appointed. There are also gonna be some who can’t afford it either. I’m surprised the club haven’t been more creative in the SC offering.

  25. You would think that NP has utterly failed with a talented and hugely motivated group of players at his disposal rather than the rabble we currently have trotting out for us each week (those who can either stay fit or want to report as fit that is). Yes, results have been mediocre, I haven't heard one comment to the contrary on that but the point being missed is that he's had a massive head start on any future Manager we might decide to bring in if we kicked his arse out of it now. He knows what players have heart, which ones have ability, which ones will be able to play in his preferred style next season, who needs to be sold, what needs addressing off the field, what his budget would be etc. He can agree targets with the Owner right now and literally everything he could possibly need to know and do is at his disposal. No new Manager in our recent history would have had such a luxury and people are talking about getting rid because of a few poor results in an absolute disaster of a season where we have been outplayed almost every week from the fifth game of the season onwards. The alternative is to boot him out, take weeks (at best) to find a replacement and that replacement has to come in, "assess the damage" for himself and start the whole process that NP has pretty much completed from scratch or, if SL doesn't want to hear what needs to be done for a second time, the new manager literally has to come in and be told what he is doing whether he likes it or not and get on with it on the basis that he is on a much heftier wedge than his last job and if he gets hooked at some point who gives a shit anyway, the gardening leave isn't to be sniffed at? On the above basis I know who my money would be on to make the necessary adjustments in recruitment in the time we have available before next season kicks off. In addition if we were to bring in Robins, as an example, I'm sure the guy would feel that he needs a well earned REST and time with his family before he even begins to think about what he is going to do with the mess that is Bristol City FC next season so we would be behind the curve YET AGAIN going into a pre-season. How many times do we have to make the same mistake before the message hits home? All the above said, I think Pearson will get the gig within the next week or two.

  26. I do hope you are right & completely agree that he probably needs to know we are safe, but let’s be realistic here. Wycombe now need to win all 5 games they have left to overhaul us whilst we don’t get another point, their next 2 away games are Swansea & Cardiff. Sheff Wed need a minimum of 16 points from 6 games, so have to go unbeaten winning 5 of them & again we have to fail to collect another point. If they lose to Swansea tomorrow then they already can’t do so. Rotherham need to pull back a 14 point deficit on us whilst playing Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday & Tuesday over the next fortnight, so 6 games in 15 days. Incidentally one of those games is Coventry, if Rotherham win that Coventry need to overturn an 8 point deficit on us with only 5 other games to play. It won’t happen.

  27. Just more rubbish, ignore it. Those who blame NP solely for the results and performances are wrong. 13 injuries, about 11 players OOC in the Summer and players have downed tools since the Birmingham away game. We need an experienced Manager in charge of this club to sort it the **** out from being a soft touch that we've always been. Long term, it will be the right choice to have NP on board.

  28. I honestly think there are fans out there (very few mind) who think that if a City player walked down the street and there was a Gas player on the other side they would be abusing one another and having it right out in the middle of the road, traffic stopped the lot, rather than just an "alright", handshake or whatever and quick chat about how things are going. If Twentystone wasn't as bloody good at his job as he is you can imagine the absolute dogs abuse he would get on here. He has certainly, over the years, given Radio Bristol a previously unseen level of professionalism on the sports presenting side of things (can't comment on the rest as I don't listen). He asks the likes of Ashton and Lansdown the questions you want to hear asked as a fan. I love a nice bit of Gas Banter as much as the next fan and often partake in that topic but I could never have anything but respect for a bloke like Twentyman, professional footballer who knows the score and puts club loyalties to one side, his only crime being to earn an honest crust from Tented Village FC.........some things in life you just have to let slide.

  29. Alternatively if he comes over and gets the deal done he might get a pleasant surprise on the season ticket renewals front? He surely cannot be so out of touch to think that people will rush to renew when there is further uncertainty over the next Manager.

  30. The forum would probably be better without the twaddle that you post too, HR. Twentystone, for all his Gas history is a very good presenter and deserves the respect he gets on here. He's also a Liverpool fan not Rovers, though understandably has an affinity with them, but I struggle to think of a single occasion where his supposed hatred of City has shown up. Care to enlighten us, or is it just hatred based on his past that clouds your judgement? Holloway is a village idiot, but to believe that people would rather side with a racist, misogynistic, self-confessed would-be paedophile over him shows more the lack of strength in your character than anyone else's.

  34. I find it quite hard to believe that Lansdown will step off the plane with either Pearson or Ashton's future largely undecided. All parties will be in frequent contact and, whilst it is of course possible hiccups could occur, I can only assume he is coming across to sign and wave off Pearson and Ashton respectively. The Pearson meeting is surely a formality. They both seem like the straight talking sort so I cant see either are going to drop any bombshells at the meet. Whilst I think it's fair to say both Pearson's time here could have gone better and we'd be mad to let him slip through our fingers, we should remember what a coup his arrival was and, ultimately, conclude that he's impressed with what he's seen, what he's been told and, not to go off on a tangent, decidedly more confident regarding our prospects next season than most.

  35. Of course - Steve Cotterill, Gary Johnson, Danny Wilson right. Check their results out in their first 2/3 months in charge of this club.. It was poor.. History tells me that the Managers who tend to start well from a Managerial bounce at this club tend to go on and not do as well as expected. We need to stick with Nigel, get a list of players he wants rid of and build again, not revert to a Lee Johnson type head coach to satisfy the kushty nature at this club

  36. Long term it doesn't matter, but in the short term the sooner the contract's signed the better. Getting the deal done will bring some stability and allow Pearson to actually put plans into practice as his future would be secure. The players also then have to respond as Pearson is then officially their boss for the foreseeable future, assuming they want a place in the team. Plenty of STHs (myself included) are waiting for this situation to resolve before making a decision on renewals, giving Pearson a new deal and sorting out a few other contracts will help sell season tickets (and probably help shift some of the shirts that are sat in the megastore)

  37. Most people will no doubt renew, that’s fine. And I don’t think delaying will influence a decision, so not thinking fancifully. I just think it is probably a good a time as any to make a point. It’ll be a fruitless point, but surely worth making nonetheless. You aren’t gonna lose your seats until early May. Would be good if just a little bit of fan pressure could be demonstrated. I can’t imagine there are many fans who are 100% happy with the current situation, so it seems the logical way of giving ourselves a voice.

  38. The fact that Pearson appears to be dead keen on the job rather than sitting on the fence despite other offers being out there has got to be a positive and removes at least one doubt from SL’s mind?

  39. It’s also really annoying because arguably it’s the age group of the footballers involved who’s been hit hardest. Awful job market, climbing house prices, basically locked up for a year with no opportunity to socialise or do normal things young people do for a disease that won’t affect them. Obviously it’s right that the government provide for school age kids and them missing out on education is a concern, but the post School/University young adult age group have been really shafted by covid and stories like this will lead to many people blaming them for non adherence.
