  1. At the end of the day it was the wrong decision, but not exactly a humongous gaffe. You can completely see why he's given the pen, and consequently the red card. HL gave the ref a decision to make and to be honest, at normal speed none of the tv replays were conclusive. You'd have to slow it down to frame by frame to be sure, which we presumably did do. On the pitch he didn't have that luxury. He saw the ball fired towards goal at pace, an outfield player throw his arms up towards the ball, coming very close to the crossbar and the ball deflected off something and went over. He had to make a split second call based on what he saw.

  14. This idea seems to be driven mostly by US owners. First they are allowed to take over clubs and basically lump the cost onto the club's debt. Paying for it out of the profits. Now they want a cast iron guarantee that they can generate the money to pay for it. I think the authorities are acting too late here. They should never have allowed the leveraged buyouts of clubs in the first place.

  16. It's a frustrating one but it's human error. I think we need to be careful what we wish for, rather human error that goes against us than VAR which takes more enjoyment out of it.

  21. Fantastic times & feel lucky that I was just old enough to be there. Still amazed me how little recognition Alan Dicks gets for his achievements, we all know it ended badly for the club, but from about ‘73 to ‘79 we had some amazing times. I was 13 when we got promoted & can say the promotion side without even thinking. Hundreds of players have passed through BS3 since, none has achieved anything like this. Cashley, Sweeney, Drysdale, Gow, Collier, Merrick, Tainton, Ritchie, Mann, Cheesley, Whitehead & Gillies. What a team.

  22. Brilliant recollection of one of the very best dadys on my life - and surely many who come on to this forum old enough to remember Those days seem a million miles from today's nonsense of Sky and Robins TV, football agents earning millions, clubs run by foreign owners with greed and ego as their main motivation, fans who want instant success etc etc There are some on here who wanted 'Johnson Out, Holden Out and soon will want Pearson Out so a word to make you feel less bad; Just 4 years on from that brilliant day v Pompey and the even better one at Highbury, City fans would shout and sing from the East End for Alan Dicks to be sacked and it got worse and worse until he eventually left. So the whinging reds have always been around; not just a recent phenomenum that drives most City fans away from OTiB and other social media because we all love City in different ways and want different things from our support. I expect one thing that unites all is not to have greedy foreign owners and managers taking the club away from us? Back to better things now and watching Big Cheese head beyond Jimmy Rimmer; CoYRs

  24. I know a lot of eyes will be on League 1 this evening but PNE to beat Derby and Wednesday to beat Blackburn? This drops us a place but it leaves Derby four points above Rotherham who will have three games in hand and Wednesday would have the same points from the same games but they play Derby at Hillsborough on the final day. I`d quite like to see Rotherham get out of it and Wednesday & Derby both go down personally.

  30. just to bring it back to the start to offer some clarity, tell me again why we need a super league? I can only think if one thing, creating profit for owners. Football clubs to my mind are essentially NPO’s. The only reason many are in a pickle is player wages. If most clubs looked at their cash flow and removed player cost from the expense line I don’t think it would look horrendous. You then have to work in player wages from there. I’m staggered as to how this constantly gets overlooked. Bristol City cannot afford their current wage bill. Players are complicit in this. It’s too easy to offer the excuse ‘it’s not their fault, clubs shouldn’t pay it’. All of them, yes all of them, are fully aware that the contract they asked for is unsustainable and cripples the football club that pay it. Are they wholly responsible? No. Are they consciously complicit? Yes.

  31. As a fan of any of those Clubs involved, it would show real power if they refused to attend games or buy season tickets until those owners have left. If SL had gone down this route if in that position, that's what I'd do. He wouldn't though. For all the flack they get, SL and JL have decent intentions when compared to other owners. On a side note...I think we as fans in our keyboard warrior state have driven JL out and will eventually with SL. For all their 'faults'...no one is perfect...I think as a fan base we are fortunate to have them. Looking at the bigger picture of football as a whole when I say that.

  36. What is it Leeds charge for away fans, 42 quid? Now they are pontificating about sport being for the fans. Same with Wolves and others. Hypocrites the lot of them. They're all pissed they're not invited, see the devaluing of the Premier league and their own cash cows running out.

  39. 1. Is he not tempted to focus on playing the players that will definitely be here next season considering we won’t go up or down? 2. Are we likely to see Semenyo as a central striker in a 4-3-3 considering Fam or Wells haven’t worked there recently? 3. How close is Britton to a call up? 4. What is the main area we need to buy for in the summer? 5. Does he expect the high number of injuries to continue into next season and if so, will we need a squad of 27-28 next season to cover for them? 6. Does he think the city pitch is a factor in the injuries?

  41. The reaction of fans, clubs, players and more, is all that you need to know. This action will be punished badly. The clubs involved think they can carry on playing in their domestic leagues and then have their own closed shop during the week. There will be legal challenges, many, but ultimately they will lose out. They will be expelled from their domestic leagues, and the players banned from international games. It is Kerry Packer all over again. Football is out of control and has become a financial greed fest. It is a business, we all know, but it has been getting worse and worse. Already the creation of the Prem league and daft distribution of money and parachute payments has created a disaster . The connection to communities being lost as clubs become international . Football has needed a reset for years, but a few clubs taking the money and running away is business greed, but it is also how football has become. It is no longer the sport of the people. IMHO there is a huge miscalculation, does anyone really want to watch 8 games between Liverpool and Real Madrid ? Who cares. Champions league is already farcical, this would be worse still. Anyway, all of this is tip of the iceberg. Football has lost its way. Maybe for a few, it is fine, but the reality is, that money has been progressively destroying the sport for 20 plus years. The Prem league has a tough job. But expel the six clubs in a few weeks and some sense will come back. Time for the governing bodies to wake up and show some balls. If not they will get walked over more and more. Let them go off and be a circus act . They have assumed that the fans want that product every week. Do they ? I dont know.
