  1. Jesus! Its got to the point where we have to analyse our performance over the season before deciding if we’re entitled to take the piss out of our rivals getting relegated ? I hear this from Gasheads a lot, which is funny because they certainly didn’t care when we were relegated into a division ABOVE them. ’If, if, if....” ”If there were 5 more games shitheads you’d be down” Yeah, maybe, but there wasn’t 5 more games. ”If you hadn’t won 4 games at the start of the season you be down” ...yeah, and? I guess we were playing pub teams at the start of the season were we? Funeral procession was a bit cringy, that should be saved for when their club does die. We weren’t relegated, we didn’t finish with the lowest points total in the FL and we’re now 2 divisions above them again despite them saying they were ‘coming for us’. I intend to enjoy my Summer.

  2. Whilst it's right to recognise the achievements of Harry and Alan, what Coops did went far, far, far beyond any success the club may have achieved. He literally dragged this club up from the gutter in it's darkest days and gave the club back its heart and soul. No other manager in my lifetime (43 yrs) has come close to the monumental achievement that Terry Cooper fought for in my opinion. Football isn't all about winning matches.

  3. They've released their retained list and agent Little has finally departed it seems. But their top goalscorer, Luke Leahy, a left-back. Who Barton in an interview the other day said was committed to staying at the club and wanted to stick with it and who Barton made captain, has rejected a contract offer and now will leave. You couldn't write it!!

  5. The way Terry picked us up and turned us around in our darkest hour fully deserves the highest recognition. Thicket and Dicks achieved marvellous things for Bristol City but, in different ways, Terry Cooper’s contribution to our history is far more significant than the achievements of Thicket and Dicks - he’s first in line for a stand to be named after him in my opinion ...

  6. This is just ridiculous. This season we scored just 6 more goals than the gas and conceded just 2 goals less. To "celebrate" their relegation is maybe worth a slight chuckle but let's not kid ourselves, this could have quite easily been us going down. Yes, they're rubbish. But we're only ever so slightly less rubbish. This is tinpot.

  7. Yes, this! He did an incredible job as player and manager (along with Clive Middlemass of course) to get BCFC resuscitated and back on the football map. My favourite City manager. We owe Terry Cooper so much.

  8. Bless them. Idolising a player who clearly couldn’t wait to get away from them and their funny little tents as soon as he could. Former players scoring against us is about as close as they get to getting one over on us these days. Thank God I was born a red.

  9. The Alan Dicks Stand sounds fine by me. The other point is that one day AD will pass to that great Ashton Gate in the sky, hopefully not for a long time yet, when there will be an outpouring grief and calls for some form of permanent memorial, including calls for a stand to be named after him. Why not recognise his efforts now, when he’s still alive and able to appreciate the affection the support has for him?

  11. Really? ******* brilliant! The gift ?. They’ve been banging on about how they ‘might decide to keep him’ like it’s an honour for the bloke to be there! ******* deluded belters. Luke Leahy is ******* off because Rovers are a ******* Tinpot joke of a club peddling backwards. In a statement earlier today Leahy said “Well, I’m hardly going to miss plying my trade in a ramshackle shithole full of tents am I? It’s a ******* no brainer. I’m off to salvage my career. Goodnight and Good riddance Irene”

  14. Whilst the coffin might have been more appropriate in 2014 the celebration of them getting relegated back to the basement is a given. You can always bank on them celebrating our demise whenever they get an opportunity to do so. Let’s hope that next season there is enough excitement going on at our own club to give us all something positive to celebrate instead. The only thing that is Tinpot is Rovers and their deluded fan base. Long may that continue. Next up from the Gift....Joey’s court case.

  15. Completely agree Reg. We stayed up due to the fluke of some other teams actually being worse than us. I don't imagine any other clubs at our level will be that lucky again.

  16. Spot on! The South Stand should be renamed “The Terry Cooper Stand” with immediate effect - and, I’m gutted that Des Williams’ immense contribution and recognition seem to have been erased with the renaming of ‘his’ stand - I know a guy who is married to his granddaughter and the Williams family is very upset that his name has apparently been ‘dropped’ from our history. But, if you put that issue to one side, having four stands named Dolman, Atyeo, Lansdown and Cooper would not be too shabby in terms of reflecting people who seriously influenced the standing of our club ...

  17. Just name it the "Sir Colin Daniel Stand" and be done with it....now back to Rovers bashing.....Jaily Barton's court case is 7th June.

  21. In a far superior division, despite being absolutely dire, we managed 13 more points than they did playing in the division below. I can't even comprehend how bad they must have been this season to register 38 points in League 1. They are absolutely dreadful whereas we are pretty rubbish. Wouldn't call it tinpot, perhaps slightly cringey but its essentially a group of lads having a few pints and a laugh. I'm sure they had a good day and good for them.

  22. I already did. Type ‘Neutral View’ into YouTube and you’ll find it! Was going to post “I’ll just leave this here...” on that Facebook page under these comments... But in the end I just couldn’t be arsed ?

  23. It could make the summer rather interesting! I should have added to my points about celebrating their relegation. Let’s not forget as those Villa fans who visited the Sags from a neutral perspective highlighted, the Gasheads constantly check the City score and every other song is about Bristol City. So yeah, they finished rock bottom of League One, Ha Ha Ha, **** ‘em!

  24. I’d forgotten about that. It couldn’t happen could it? Rovers getting relegated and Barton being banged up would almost be like God saying to us “there you go chaps, that’s for having your season ruined by players downing tools in March and the horrific injury list” ?

  26. Quick message for any readers from DCFCFans. Do I take what I read on your forum too seriously? Quite possibly, yes. Spat from me towards a rival forum albeit certainly not one-way is rather daft... Do I have strong views on your P&S position and think the EFL need to go for it- yes, but then I would like stricter enforcement of it across the board. Up to and including proper enforcement in terms of the In-Season overspend rule. Wouldn't surprise me if a number of clubs are over limits, Reading has been well documented and I wonder about Stoke as well- reported £87m loss!? That said, no Accounts yet from Stoke so there is some guesswork. Would I be happy to debate Football Finance, FFP- or maybe even Football in general constructively- yes. After all, until his injury Martin was a strong addition for us on a free (in terms of linkup and all-round play- assists- not so many goals though!), Weimann at £2m has been decent value- although injured for most of the season. Wanted Vydra (think in 2018 he was your top scorer?- probably a decent all-round game too) from Burnley when Brownhill was going there- think he would have been a strong addition. Martin we overplayed, he got steadily less effective and eventually got broke. All that said, my views on the FFP stuff in general terms, these are implacable, I am a very strong believer in FFP and don't think it goes far enough if anything. Much like Kieran Maguire and Matt Hughes, I'm not necessarily anti Derby- though while I can't speak for them, me personally- I can't abide your owner.

  27. This is a difficult one. He has amazing pace and can turn whilst receiving the ball BUT his end product in passing and shooting is awful, he gives away some stupid free kicks and his marking from set pieces is poor. Normally I would think he could be coached but I have the feeling he lacks football intelligence and plays from instinct. Considering the rebuild we need, I would sell for £4 mil providing there were good sell and appearance kickers

  28. Take the money. The assessment that he might improve to score more than one goal in every 10 appearances is too uncertain. He might. He might not. Take the money.

  29. You joke, but I was once visiting my brother who is the groundsman for Yelverton CC near Plymouth. We went to the ground thinking we would just be getting a drink at the bar as it had been raining steadily since 11am, but the teams were out on the pitch in their wellies, much to my brothers annoyance as he knew how much work he was going to have to do on the outfield after.

  35. Not sure if you or any of the other Glos fans on here have seen it, but there's a good interview with David Payne on TMS Online at the moment. One of the things he said was that our thumping at Taunton last year has made us pull our socks up. I'm looking forward to getting down to watch Glos next week, just hope this abysmal weather buggers off by then.

  39. In fairness, a lot of posters are not asking how much can we get for him, but are asking whether he can improve sufficiently to justify not selling him now, given the pressing need for funds to re-develop the team. He’s strong and has great pace, but he’s a striker that doesn’t score goals - something we’ve a track record of developing well at AG! The unknown element is whether he would perform better in a proper Pearson team and under Pearson’s management, but I suspect that holds true for quite a few of our underperforming players, based on the last 12 months. He’s a non-scoring striker, is not a winger and isn’t a number 10 so it then becomes a bit difficult to see exactly what his role would be in a Pearson team. This is one time we might regret Ashton’s departure, as if he was dealing with Palace we’d be guaranteed £25m minimum with add ons!

  40. Anyone up for a game of spot the difference?

  41. While there's no doubt he's an athelte who might improve, I see a player that's neither a winger or striker. His two league goals were charge downs and he's consistently shown a lack of composure in key positions. Unlike late bloomers like Reid, Semenyo hasn't come through any academy from a young age and doesn't have that football brain. I thought the penny might have dropped in the Cup at Millwall, but we've seen nothing like that since. Personally, I would accept £3m+ for Semenyo in the current financial climate with several add-ons to ensure payment if he does develop. Those funds could be used to inject more quality over quantity back into the squad. If a deal could be done quickly and reinforcements could be in before the start of pre-season, it's a no-brainer for me.

  42. I completely disagree but there we are, that's life ? As others here have said, he's not actually a natural footballer. He's an athlete with a well developed physique for his age who happens to play football. So he's just not my type, I'm afraid.

  43. Lets just remember that Conway and Brittain have scored as many league goals in their combined minutes (200?) as Semenyo has in two years and were keeping him out of the side at the end of the season, appreciate there is more to his game than that but if the £5m can be used to sort out other area's of the team then I would be happy enough to see the likes of Brittain, Conway and Bell be blooded next season in a more settled team.

  44. We sell because we can get a better replacement, in the current market. Maybe more than one. Players who aren't learning on the job and who can fill a specific role immediately - what is Semenyo? A winger, a wide forward, a centre forward? Right here, right now we don't have the time to wait and found out, given the mess we're in. In a way, he would be a victim of our circumstances if we decided to sell him, although moving to the Premier League would hardly be a hardship. Personally, I'd sell because I find the idea of Semenyo ever scoring 10-15 goals fanciful in the extreme.

  46. With the usual add ons . When a Prem club shows an interest it is nigh on impossible to refuse the player the chance to secure their future. So it looks like we’ve seen the last of AS in a City shirt. I had hoped we would benefit from a Bobby Reid style season from the lad next season.

  48. I once had several pints in about 2014. Had a week off work convinced I had a brain tumour. That night I ordered a dominos pizza. Found the receipt in my pocket. Went next door and ordered Indian. Never went back for the Dominos. Went home with the Indian and kept telling the wife it was Chinese. She tell the story that I kept pushing the spoon I was using into various parts of my face because I was missing my mouth. Scary thing is, that very evening we helped some girls in Worcester change the wheel on their car because they had a flat. I dread to think...
