  3. First trip to Wembley , and the real old twin tower Wembley too. Our coach was first there, which seemed clever at the time, not so much when it come to getting out. First in the pub, which also turned out not so clever as we were the wrong side so it kicked off a little before the game, a little after if I remember correctly . 3-0 win, good day out which, when we got back turned into a late lock-in at our old 'local'. And a few from the open top bus tour later.

  4. There does seem to be a sense of entitlement. They’ve had a poor end to the season but were well outside the play offs when LJ took over. This is the third season they have failed to go up and I’m pretty sure two of those weren’t Johnson’s fault. Don’t get me wrong - there is a worrying trend with Lee Johnson of teams getting close but not having the mentality to get over the line and he might not be the man for the job but I think anger and abuse over missing out in the play offs is OTT and frankly disrespectful to Lincoln who are a very decent side.

  5. I want to see an elephant roaming the pitch in every game. If the ball hits the elephant it is a free kick to the opposition. All player shorts to have pockets designed especially to keep peanuts secure for tactical elephant luring purposes.

  10. Hello OTIB, Me and @petehintoninterviewed Keith Millen for One Stream in Bristol this week. It's out now! Keith talks Steve Coppell's infamous era, getting punched by a player, David James' pet hate and Peter Styvar. As well as his love for the club. Listen here

  13. Pretty brutal summary, but hard to argue with any of that. I think the only real ‘legacy’ that LJ has left at this club is a team in his image ...... generally small in stature, workmanlike, unspectacular, lightweight, easily bullied and totally lacking in creativity. It seems his sides just couldn’t accomodate a creative player, even when we had them. How we managed to regress so far after the exciting squad created under Cotts is pretty incredible really and amazes me why some people still staunchly defend him.

  14. Glory hunter what a day , what a team & also my favourite manager . Many of us have asked the club to honour TC but always seems to fall on deaf ears. I really hope they do something before he passes away .

  16. 50% +1 ownership rule introduced. Phased in over 3 to 5 years (ie start at 80% then the owners have to sell their % of their shares by certain deadlines or they become controlled by fans. Stop pissing about and allow standing.

  17. It’s criminal that he isn’t acknowledged somewhere within Ashton Gate. This is just before my time as a City fan, but every City fan owes TC a huge debt of gratitude for how hard he worked picking the club up at its lowest ebb.

  18. I would not be at all surprised to see Kalas sold. A relegated prem side who might sell one or two centre backs maybe. Or Bournemouth still with their parachute payments. Nige wants players to be earning more of a similar wage. I get the feeling it there is the opportunity to sell Kalas then he might take it.

  19. Having read numerous posts asking why all the venom and vitriol aimed at Johnson, may I put my tuppence worth in. Johnson was as divisive as a player as he was as a manager. His presence divided opinion more than any person I've ever known in their time at the club. Whether you were in the Johnson in or, Johnson out camp. What I believe has happened during those debates/arguments, is a hardening of attitudes either for or against the man. With people bigging up his successes, yet not taking into account the amazing backing he had from A, his father during a very modest playing career and B, from Lansdown in supporting him during his managerial career. Equally, people while trying to argue those points got more frustrated that in their eyes, the supporters of Johnson couldn't see the wood for the trees. Ultimately the personal insults, which were evident during his playing career were brought to the fore. Resulting in excessive personal abuse, born I believe out of frustration. Personally I never rated him as a player, far too slow, couldn't tackle or head the ball. Or as manager, too choppy changy and seemed vindictive. I feel he was lucky to have eaked out a good living with minimal ability. I don't hate him, just feel he's been a very lucky boy and I'm glad that period of his tenure is behind us.

  20. I'm the opposite. Rarely miss a home friendly and the occasional away weekend to places like Torquay and Bournemouth. And I don't think Ive missed a community match yet - very enjoyable occasions at local clubs I wouldn't normally visit like Bitton (although I've been there numerous times), Hallen, Brislington, Manor Farm, Hengrove etc. Put a few quid into their coffers. Good tasters for the season ahead, get a first look at any new signings and a day out.

  23. Up there with my favourite ever memories of watching City. I was about 12 and caught the train to London with my dad, mum and sister (the latter two spent the day shopping). I remember the feeling of disbelief at being at Wembley and vividly recall the first goal going in. And then in the evening walking along home after getting off the bus from Temple Meads, an old guy was at his living room window waving and sticking his thumbs up. That Terry Cooper interview gets me every single time.

  25. I think Moore’s days are numbered at City. He’s a nice skilful player but he’s too lightweight and has the recurring habit of making at least one awful defensive mistake in every match

  26. My first thoughts precisely. Why not have 3 fans from each professional division - I mean why not just take the winners of each club's half time draw (or equivalent) at the first game of next season - and get some of those on the panel. But the cynic in me foresees a cursory questionnaire being sent to whatever fan mailing list the FA have. Lots of "rate from 1-10 how important the following is to you". Allowing some nice wriggle room for the panel to determine what is actually "important to the fans".

  32. Changing the thrust of the thread; absolutely delighted for Lincoln. One of the best Cathedrals in the land. Lovely small city. Be great to see them in the Championship. When was the last time? I am guessing 60's. Small issue of Blackpool firstly who do seem the stronger.

  33. I don't have a second team, but (probably like most people over the last year), I've watched a lot more sport on telly than usual. Based on that, I've been massively entertained by Bristol Bears, a real shame that they couldn't have fans share that journey with them. From a footballing point of view, despite watching loads of it, the lack of atmosphere and the use of VAR has left me feeling pretty underwhelmed by the game.

  36. But GoN, Tomlin & all the others who occupied the naughty step might dispute 'LJ' believed that statement to be true. "....could have played in The Premier..." , he sure as hell didn't respond positively to their ridicule. It also begs the question as to why he was beloved of signing midfielders in his own likeness? Signing after signing, all 3rd rate runarounds, crab-like, impotent in attack. And on the rare occasion he did acquire talent far superior to that he himself possessed, why did he appear to stifle it?

  37. How could that be the last straw on VAR. It has been awful the whole way through and should have been scrapped long ago.

  38. Re.2. I remember one of the early Forever Bristol City podcasts saying that MA was taking a helluva risk appointing Holden. I wasn’t against it at all, but it was a big risk. I said if it went wrong Jon wasn’t gonna get the blame was he. What angers me is that the Ipswich thing might’ve come to light early this year, but it must’ve been going on for ages beforehand. With Mike O’Leary’s involvement in the American Group, Ashton must’ve been at least had his head turned before the papers and Kid got wind of “an existing EFL CEO” was gonna be part of it. SL couldn’t have had any idea, or he’d have sorted earlier, even if purely sending Jon back from Bermuda. What has transpired (in hindsight) is Ashton ducking the club over in his final season. I would imagine he would be very unwelcome in the board room should City host Ipswich at some point. SL isn’t gonna say anything bad about him, but surely he’s seething. Shit sticks, the Watford press knew the score, many of us on here thought similar. But he’s Ipswich’s problem now, but he’s left a shit on the carpet after burgling our house hasn’t he?

  41. The whole reason in supporting or playing football is to see your team win. The obvious end result is that your team would then be in the highest division available. That means the Premier League. As a Villa fan I certainly didn't enjoy our last few seasons before relegation and watching us scrapping for points, trying to hang on to the coat-tails of the money, and going into games against some teams beaten before you start and hoping to limit your loss to no more than 3. That is the life of most lower mid table teams. The Championship was a breath of fresh air in that respect as we didn't go into any games beaten before kick-off. We also were the billy big bollocks which allowed us to forget the realities of life in the top flight - we started to win and enjoy games too. Oh, and I loved Saturday games and midweek follow-ups. I'll be honest I'd miss VAR if it wasn't there because for all it's ills I think its gets more right than wrong which is a positive. But, the reality is that we have two very wealthy owners without whom I probably wouldn't be so positive. It's getting harder and harder to progress and it does take a lot to not just stay still but to keep moving. But it's better than the alternative which would be to not have a chance of competing against the best, and accepting less. I guess each club and their fans will see things differently based on their shared historical experiences, and some clubs may go up but fear for the fall-out of relegation and the finances. We were within an ace of going pop because of it but we are where we are now. You shouldn't (and no-one is saying that they are) fear promotion tot he top-flight, but cut your cloth accordingly in the first season, and try and survive the first two seasons. After that you can try and push on. For most clubs that is success as the chance of winning trophies is ever more remote.

  43. They only won the league! ‘Mon the Jags ... “we are coming, we are coming, we are coming down your road, when you hear the noise of the Partick Thistle boyz, we are coming down your road” ... ...and just for clarification - the tartan army and Liverpool fans have both since hijacked that chant very recently, but let it be known, that has been a mainstay of the Thistle songbook since the 1970s so they can all bugger off with their theft of an original, rousing and fantastic chant ... when the Jackie Husband Stand gets going with that one, it’s hairs on the back of yer neck time ...
