  1. More than likely on both counts - small firm - small town - big client - probably had his 'gut feeling' turned a little low - still reckon he was had.

  2. They get next to no national television coverage. Which, given they are the nations favorite second team, must be quite distressing for fans the world over. Wouldn't be at all surprised if lack of facilities and crap floodlights play a part in Sky deciding there are better places to spend their money.

  3. 'Sell out', have they ever sold it out? 6,500 maximum, deluded idiot!

  4. They haven’t managed that for the last 3 years, so I am sceptical that they will do so now or in the future. It seems that everything being done is the metaphorical “kicking it into the long grass” . While , I’m sure the EFL will point to Derby being punished, we all know that a financial fine is designed to show the club being penalised while ensuring it falls short of a points deduction that would relegate them, as the EFL knows full well the absolute 5h1t storm that would create! This has become less about Derby breaking the rules and more about the EFL’s impotence when it comes to policing, enforcing and administering appropriate punishment with and to clubs that break it’s own financial rules. I stand to be corrected and absolutely amazed if the EFL do now pull their fingers out and make a points deduction !!

  5. Following on from the question asked below are there plans to bring out a bigger range of items. The other year I got my boy a duvet set and curtains which he would love to update to ones with the new badge etc. Other things like City PJ's, onesies etc for kids would be a massive hit I'm sure.

  6. Hopefully with Alex Scott we already have our first premier league footballer in the pipeline from the Channel Islands. Not to turn this into a Jersey versus Guernsey thread but I have a friend who is a youth coach at a Guernsey club (same one Alex Scott played for). Says Chelsea and Southampton are over there all the time and they have had a couple of players picked up by Man Utd so well worth scouting in that part of the world.

  8. Some may recall the malfeasance, or so it was labelled and prosecuted as, about 25-30 years ago; Arthur Andersen, and others, submitted accounts, possibly for Polly Peck. In front of the judge they pleaded ignorance to false accounting because, they said, we can only go on the document from the client. The Judge 'laughed' them out court saying they were, at best, complicit, and at worst directly involved in cooking books. After all, he said, how could you sign off a set of accounts that bore no resemblance to any that had been in the previous 5 tax years in which you represented the client; did you not once stop to ask them what is this? Polly Peck no longer exists of course and AA closed its doors in the UK as Accountants, soon thereafter. Unfortunately the Football League is like a timid cat compared to the roaring lion of the FInancial Conduct Authority.

  11. Also League 2 barely gets a televised game at all - mostly treated as scheduled fillers during international breaks at best.

  12. Not been to Casamia yet because of the hefty prices - but like you say, it’s a once in a blue moon experience, so maybe one day! I have been to Paco tapas a couple of times though (same owners as Casamia and is just nextdoor), which is definitely worth a try for top quality authentic tapas for a still pricey, but nowhere near £180 pricey, evening. Chef’s menu is £50 for around 14 courses if I recall correctly. Chipping in on the best burger argument, I’ll add a vote to Asado. Been there a handful of times and never ever disappointed. Squeezed gets a close second and the fries were perfect for me. Also agree with those slagging Oowee off, not for me - proper grease-fest. Someone mentioned Bell’s Diner, which was a favourite of mine, but is now closed down and been replaced by Bianchi’s (traditional Italian grub owned by the same guys as Pasta Loco & Pasta Ripiena). Not tried it yet - can anyone recommend? Other favourites are: - Poco near turbo island on Gloucester Road. Little seasonal plates using local produce. - Souk kitchen on North Street. Never fails to deliver. - 7 Lucky Gods. Personally never had a bad experience and have tried everything on the menu. - Pony on North street. Managed to get a spot for dinner the other day and it was lovely, a new spot that’s definitely worth a visit. - Bosco on Whiteladies road. Nothing special, but always seem to go back for a nice atmosphere and decent pizzas. - The Ethicurean in Wrington. Someone else mentioned this and it’s a bit outside Bristol, but the fact I can still recommend it after having worked there for 6 months or so, is testament to how passionate the owners are for good local food and a top notch experience. Setting is beautiful too. It’s changed a little since I’ve been there mind - quite lofty prices for a set menu ‘experience’, where you get shown around the walled garden etc. Anyone tried this new experience by any chance?

  13. Doubt it. Would guess that as Derby haven't 'wronged' Wycombe directly and they are just a byproduct of this carry-on, their best chance of success would be to go after the EFL, where loss of gate receipts, television money, 3rd round FA Cup cash and all that other stuff would form a calculation for compo. Only a guess, mind. I don't know anything.

  15. Well I beg to differ; if you were a clean owner you surely go out of town, well out of town, to recruit your auditor. The fact Morris did not sums him up quite nicely. The egregious little ogre should be struck off for life from sitting on a board and should be drop kicked into the rough never to return to the beautiful game which he has so blatantly and flagrantly brought into disrepute. Shame on him and all involved. We are likely talking about criminal offences. I hope they all do time. I used PP as a mere example but thanks for digging around. I was of the view that AA Consulting was still going... No licence to do audits tho.

  16. I definitely think Wycombe will be taking legal advice the fact of the matter is Derby have cheated and have benefited from it denying Wycombe a place in the league this year. The fact Derby don't have to submit amended accounts until the 18th August in which 2 league games would already be played you know for a fact they'll leave it to the last second. The EFL need to suspend the first 2 league games for both Derby and Wycombe or they shouldn't be given so long to resubmit the accounts.

  17. Just to clarify the record - Andersen where found guilty of criminal offences in 2001 following Enron later the convictions were reversed by the Supreme Court. Neither business now exists. Polly Peck went bust in 1988 and their accountants were admonished by the regulator.

  19. No it's not. Simply put DCFC misled the auditors. Para 25 of the LAP decision says: " ... because the explanations in the accounts did not reflect the treatment which the Club contended, and the DC accepted, was in fact adopted, the DC found the charge proved as to the fifth particular. Indeed, the erroneous explanation of the treatment in the accounts mirrored that in the Draft Audit Findings Report of the auditors for each of the relevant years, which were also incorrect and misleading." and Para 86 goes on to say: " ... the Club had misstated in each of the Accounts the treatment which had been adopted by the Club in relation to amortisation. That seemed to us to raise questions as to how far the Club’s auditors had fully understood the accounting treatment they were adopting and its basis."

  23. Agreed- that or they're resigned to failing so not going to bother selling players or trying to scramble them out the door by 30th June- or maybe they have a firesale lined up to be announced on 30th June to stave off sanctions. Olise, Meite, Swift, Joao- plus maybe Rafael, Moore, Puscas- Yiadom and Rinomhota also have a book value of zero so...could also make a case for Ejaria who joined relatively cheaply and Laurent who was okay and joined on a free. The long and short is that Reading clearly have saleable assets. Little bit of the Percy article...looks like more charges on other matters for Derby and Sheffield Wednesday, this time late payment of Players! Rightly so.

  24. Derby have come out swinging, by the looks- John Percy. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:8Otm-flUI7MJ:https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/06/24/derby-vs-efl-bitter-feud-escalates-county-insist-cannot-relegated/&hl=en&gl=uk&strip=1&vwsrc=0 EFL may well appeal- and rightly so. Interesting post from the Derby forum- wonder how much they know about their Auditors. ? Bit of a rookie error for experienced Auditors- may or may not comply with the letter although clearly not if the EFL Verdict is a guide, but I do believe the Written Reasons suggested that there were no notes from meetings about Accounting Policy change, calculations- then again I do also consider the incompetence theory as one of the sources they were using was Transfermarkt! ?

  26. https://www.efl.com/siteassets/image/202021/general-news-images/efl-v-derby-county--decision.pdf There is a thorny issue of course, why did the EFL accept two different valuations for Pride Park- surely they should have insisted on the £74.4m as opposed to the £81.1m, for P&S purposes- this one is taking the higher one, also the rent seems about £3m too light unless that's still open to argument, £4.1m is fine, £1.1m is a nonsense- days used, well I don't see evidence... Let's take this as red anyway- the Rent wouldn't affect this particular 3 year period. Amortisation in the years in q using Derby's method Total from 2015/16 to 2017/18 under this method £14.95m. Total using Straight Line with Contract Extensions £35.93m. That's a swing of about £20.98m in Amortisation. This post is where the figures arise from. Then elsewhere and later, @AnotherDerbyFan suggested that IIRC, the Ince Profit would be £2m higher under the EFL's preferred method. Very rough and early calculations- assuming all else being equal- suggests that: Final early and quick estimated total £22,482,000 - £2,000,000 + £20,980,000=£41,462,000. Very tight but all other things being equal, that would be a £2,462,000 overspend- 3 point deduction! Even if I misremembered and it's e.g. £3m higher, that would still be a £1,462,000 overspend and sufficient for a 3 point deduction as per the Regulations and past precedent, Tariff etc.

  29. I think the EFL are simply trying to look like they are taking this seriously and absolutely nothing will happen. Derby will consider it 100k well spent as the TV revenue more than covers it, the league will make some noise about them having robust processes in place, and this time next season, there will be a similar story involving another club who aren't in too dissimilar a position.

  32. Some of the highlights... Barrow away in August - bank holiday weekend by the sea, not sure if it has much of a beach though ? Harrogate away 30th October - trick or treat? lets hope there's no horror show ? Salford in November - probably flying high by this point but can they do it on a Tuesday night in Salford? FGR away - big day out if away fans are allowed by then they will be taking it over, bring back happy memories of conference play offs ? Boxing day - welcoming Sutton United to the Mem, a club who are famous mainly for 1 giant killing, maybe it will be 2 after this game? ?

  38. You don't know anything about me. I've not been rude to you. All I stated was the facts which was found from a reputable source on the internet. The beer quote was the politest way I could think of replying to your rude reply. So I have to conclude your just a rude person. You would probably not act this way towards someone if you met them down the pub. You should equally not do it on the internet (a vain hope i know).
