Fair play, the Napoli fans rioted and set their stadium on fire (bit more interesting than the BK fire). 50,000+ crowd for the game and Swindon also played at Roma with a similar crowd, also beat Juve and Sampdoria home and away. Not a bad record against the Italians to be fair.3 points

If it was us you wouldn't need to hold your hands up - Steve Lansdown would have done so well before that! Therein lies the root of the problem. SL, in common with the majority of owners/chairmen/chairwomen looks at the rules and takes the appropriate steps to ensure their club stays within those rules. Owners like Morris look at the same set of rules rules and look for ways around them or, if they should fall foul of them, how they can wriggle out of liability.3 points

West Auckland won it; they are a village team near to the more famous Bishop Auckland. I remember the film with Dennis Waterman. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Auckland#:~:text=West Auckland Town F.C. is,awarded the trophy to keep2 points

Reminded me of my playing days in Jersey, every game against Jersey Portuguese FC (who folded in 2014) I was amazed they’d communicate throughout the game in their mother tongue until that is it came to letting the officials know what they thought. Their choice use of English on these occasions often resulted in cards being brandished. Always made me smile.2 points

https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/derby-county-fixtures-wycombe-efl-5567991 If you scroll down a fair way they talk about the 'appetising' fixtures for Wycombe next year in league 1. The arrogance of this paper appears to know no bounds. It is a condescending piece of drivel. The journalist needs reporting for a disgraceful put down of a fellow football club. If I was editor i would be demanding a full retraction followed by a direct apology to Wycombe. Every week that goes by and they add fuel to the fire. By now they must be the most hated club in the land. No mean feat that.2 points

The type of player he is going for is a scoucer or northerner. That’s his thinking. Bloke is clueless but rovers fans can’t see pass that because he has a few Twitter followers and he’s Joey Barton who played in the premiership. Not Joey Barton who was shitter than the other two clowns they had. Then he publicly shamed everything that was wrong at Bristol Rovers to deflect the shit away from himself because he said he would definitely keep them up. He and rovers suit each other. Hope it ends in rovers tears2 points

I. Was too young to remember 1969 /70 but that was the days when football was a level playing field financially and even in the old division 3 we were getting over 20000 for league games as football had really taken off around the country. Many thanks for the recognition as beating the mighty Arsenal in front of 100.000 at Wembley was no mean feat and sadly our of reach for most of us teams nowadays2 points

Yes, I remember watching that. England refused to enter a team and somehow BAFC got entered and won. In the film, the BA captain does a team pep talk, I seem to remember the phrase “Give ‘em Iron” (think a lot of the team worked in a iron smelting factory).1 point

To be fair, it is quite easy to forget that if they turn over Cheltenham in the League Cup, it will be considered an upset! Let that sink in....1 point

It was indeed a fantastic achievement - and the FA had to rush through some emergency rules to prevent you lot from playing in Europe to allow Arsenal to play instead. The Italians thought that was unfair and launched the Anglo-Italian cup as a result - which the Italians took seriously but the English didn’t. If I remember correctly, in one game Swindon were beating Napoli 3-0 and the game had to be abandoned because the Italians rioted and destroyed their own stadium…?!!!1 point

Pretty comprehensively, again ?. I must say, I am very impressed with this Glenn Phillips - I had never heard of him before his recent exploits with Glos.1 point

Same match report as last night. Just insert "Sussex" for "Glamorgan". Go Glos!1 point

Please refer to previous Gilmartin threads, it's all there. In the context of this thread I was replying to a couple of posters who for some reason 'feel sorry for him'. I don't.1 point

I would be interested why you think he has a charmed career. It seems out of context of the thread1 point

I guess the 1969 league cup will be lonely for a while but at least it still there in history1 point

Good post and spot on with what you have written. We have a crook in charge who dosen't give a sh*t about the club and will send us out of business before he sells up1 point

Off topic I know, but this reminded of a story I heard about Ian McCollough. Being a man not known for his modesty, he was asked in a 6music interview what his biggest regret was. "We should never have released Killing Moon as a single" he said. "We should have pressed one copy and had it hung on the wall of the Tate Gallery" .1 point

Think Barton has brought in 6 new players now, many of them are Scousers & a fair few from Fleetwood or elsewhere in the North. I consider myself a bit of a football anorak at times but I have never heard of any of them.1 point

Agree to this, I won’t sit here and blow smoke up our own backsides, but I think there’s enough people who went through 82 (like my old man) to not want to play this sort of thing out. Let’s be honest, we are lucky in a number of ways when it comes to ownership stability and I suspect we all (myself included) has gone “why can’t SL just gamble one season and cheat the system like QPR or Wolves or Villa” but would that really make us happy? And there’s no promise that it pays off. Of course some fans would rather success at all costs. Of course some fans would blindly back the club even if they were in the wrong, either out of faith or borderline trolling, but I think because of where we’ve been we’d have a better proportion of fans kicking off if we pulled this sort of thing.1 point

Their club is being ruined by a shit owner who doesn't seem to give a flying **** about the club or the fans. It makes me doubly grateful that we have a decent owner in charge of us at BS3.1 point

Doesn't that make you sad? Do you accept in any way that your club has done wrong and essentially cheated? I think that’s the part I struggle with. I completely respect and accept your loyalty and decision to stand by your club, but you are still allowed to acknowledge that they’ve done wrong, tried to cheat and been caught out. Do you also see how Derby not being punished appropriately just means it’s okay for everyone else to cheat in the same manner? I just don’t get it.1 point

Back on the burger debate, has anyone tried the Bristol Burger Bus? Check them out on Instagram. They are in different places each night and do a special burger each week. It’s an old New York style school bus. Pretty cool and the burgers and onion rings are decent1 point

Agreed Hav. Out of town auditors certainly feel the best bet in these scenarios. I could be getting my cases mixed up tbh but I do believe there were no notes documenting the discussion of this Amortisation policy, available for the Hearing last year. The links between Andrew Delve and Mel Morris seem to go back years. Unsure how much I should post on a public forum even though it's all findable in the public domain. Let's just say it's not a good look all this, surely.1 point
