Unfortunately Rovers are part of Bristol Football and always will be, I remember the old days when they played at Eastville and their end then was the tote end. I also recall some derby matches in the 70,s and the interaction and the battels on the pitch and off the pitch. They are a team and club that have always struggled and been second fiddle to the OTIB. And we know amongst us the the club that who is located at BS3 will always be known as the football club associated with the city of Bristol. I know this might seem a bit weird but they are now in League two and those of us old enough that means the old fourth division. they have been there before and dropped down to the Conference around 2013/14 and came good. I was impressed that they have just signed Harvey Soundess and Aaron C. it shows that they are still around and still fighting to maintain quality football in Bristol. They will always exist and we will always take the piss out of them. However not sure how we need to try and show them some resect or not on this forum. After all even though they are blue and dodgy pirates and originally called the black Arabs when they were formed its still good having them around to keep the banter live.5 points

Signing a player from Hartlepool might be inspired. Brian Drysdale had ben playing for Hartlepool and was considering giving up the game as his career was going nowhere. Then out of the blue, City made a bid for him which he and Hartlepool jumped at. BD went on to be a regular fixture at left back and helped us into Div 1.2 points

The type of player he is going for is a scoucer or northerner. That’s his thinking. Bloke is clueless but rovers fans can’t see pass that because he has a few Twitter followers and he’s Joey Barton who played in the premiership. Not Joey Barton who was shitter than the other two clowns they had. Then he publicly shamed everything that was wrong at Bristol Rovers to deflect the shit away from himself because he said he would definitely keep them up. He and rovers suit each other. Hope it ends in rovers tears2 points

I saw them at Gold diggers in Chippenham donkeys years ago and remember them saying how good it was to be home. Maybe that's why I thought they were from Chippenham. Suddenly gone off XTC. Nigel can stick his plans right up his Seargent Rock.1 point

XTC are all Swindon. But yes, as @Shaun Taylor says there is no basis for Swindon becoming a city.1 point

XTC were from Chippenham I think. How can Swindon be a city when 1, they don't have a cathedral and 2, their town centre is a run down hovel?1 point

The Swindon councillors are hoping that gaining city status will stop it being a soulless hell-hole. Unfortunately, it will take far more than that.1 point

As far as I am concerned there is no rivalry. They are a nothing club with a dwindling fan base who continually revel in being ramshackle holding onto some obscure misguided view that they think it gives them a "family" feel. They are stuck in the 1970's and hark back to some cup run they had over 60 years ago. The only times they come up in conversation is usually to laugh at their inept tinpottidness which happens on a daily basis.1 point

Stop it you're embarrassing me now! Kick that silly idea into touch now just like when it was mentioned in 2012. lots of green spaces parks etc, lots of new houses to choose from on the outside of the town, plenty of jobs irrespective if Honda closing, population close to a quarter of a million but a dump in and around the Town centre. City status no way but then again Newport has it so you never know.1 point

I am sure the EFL have the right to do so; but I doubt it will happen. It just gets too complicated too quickly. Personally I think that the slow death dance of DCFC will become a lesson in corporate greed. How a once great club went all out and failed. If the EFL are true to their word then DCFC should be on a hard transfer embargo at the end of the month, no one has come in yet. Despite all the press releases by the club they still haven’t stated that they meet the P&S loss limits for all seasons. So looks like a points deduction this season as well. Also heard that a couple of senior contracted players are negotiating moves away. So small squad, points deduction and Rooney as manager should mean an exciting season propping up the table.1 point

Please refer to previous Gilmartin threads, it's all there. In the context of this thread I was replying to a couple of posters who for some reason 'feel sorry for him'. I don't.1 point
