  1. You would think no better reason for an Ashton Gate station. Yet to discount it now by excluding match day figures for football, rugby and basketball, let alone other events, seems beyond naive to me. Oh its a council! If you cannot get a job in the private sector work for a public body. Dumpsters holding back the regions because they lack intelligence. I cannot think of any other reason. Logic is something crushed by council dictat bollox.

  8. After a bit of help if any City fans have the skill and time... I live in Plymouth and have just set up my first Sunday league team. We have sponsorship from a local pub down here, Stoke Bar & Grill. Hence our names is going to be Stoke Bar & Grill FC! Basically we need a badge but the efforts in our group chat are woeful to say the least haha. I didn’t know if we had any budding graphic designers with time to spare - I know some people enjoy that sort of thing. I’m completely out of my depth with anything like that I must admit. The colour scheme would be red, black and white. I suppose the badge could pay reference to it being a pub with a pint, barrel or something. But generally it doesn’t need to be anything special, something useable after seeing the efforts from our group would suffice ? Bit of a random one and expecting this post to sink to the bottom of the page pretty quick. But worth a go, cheers all!

  9. If Uncle Steve pays for it, with no return on his spend it'll happen. But why should he? He has provided thousands of jobs and now spends his hard earned keeping us semi-entertained, he has done plenty.

  10. Playing against Conway, be it New Zealand or Somerset, seems to spook him. Then he drops him in the first over. I would not normally say that one missed chance would be that crucial with what really was a comforable win, as plenty more batsmen could come in and make those runs, but it seems Somerset really were light on batting. As for Glos, we should be looking at winning our next 2 (Hants and Middlesex are in the bottom 2) and hope that takes us nearly over the line.

  11. Lummydaze, it’s taken them decades to try and resolve use of the LA Park and Ride Car Park. We’re still waiting on that! The whole point of the mayoral scheme was to resolve such issues. Only in Bristol and North Somerset does such a goddam simple solution to a problem become an impossible fix. Trains will be obsolete by the time your Mayor(s) get around to thinking about a station at Ashton Gate. Just celebrate your £multi-million 300 metres of ‘guided bus service’ on that bridge across The Cut. What’s that all about? Utterly bizarre.

  15. Not sure how every London club does it with poxy little underground stations. The answer is queues and lots of trains (which is the actual problem).

  18. You would have to say that Wycombe have been a pretty fortuitous team over the last two seasons if this went through too. Finished outside the playoffs in league one but points per game put them back in it, eventually leading them to promotion. Now to stay up thanks to a Derby points deduction, they certainly gave it a good go.

  20. Local Government is constrained by bureaucracy, regulations, and auditing. If you play by the book, all is good. If you stray away from the rigid regime, you are likely to get into trouble. No wonder local government is staid and risk averse. I suppose its similar to being an MP, they go into it thinking they can make a difference, but they soon find out that if they try, they'll be on their own and in danger of coming a cropper. Best to toe the line.

  22. I expect that Rovers pays peanuts to their admin staff as, so it happens, does City. I know this because maybe ten years ago a couple of senior financial jobs came up at City, my dream job, but when I saw the salaries I wasn't prepared to take that big a pay cut. The salary offered was verging on being rude it was so low. Football clubs seem to all operate like this: stupid money for the inner circle like Ashton and poverty wages for their professional office staff. And if you pay peanuts...

  28. Why would any methane snorter take any pride in turning up at our palatial home wearing that monstrosity? To me, that seems both desperate and humiliating on their part? They've got a hot dog stand on their, admittedly, new tarmac, tents and portaloos and then they see what we've got? I just don't get it. Are we supposed to be offended? Personally, I think it's rather funny.

  36. I`m glad I opted for a donkey jacket back in the eighties at The Den. It cushioned the effect of the coins and snooker balls and the darts wouldn`t penetrate the fabric. I just wish I`d gone full Bob the Builder and worn a hard hat as well.

  37. I totally get where you are coming from but I struggle to agree with this ... my great grandad, grandad and dad were all gasheads and they loved their club ... it’s always dreadful when fans lose their club, whoever they are. With my Partick Thistle connections, I felt genuinely gutted for the loyal Clydebank FC fans who had their club pillaged and dissolved by the despicable actions of “Little Chelsea” (Airdrieonians). Airdrie were in financial trouble, went out of business and simply decided to take over another club who were also struggling. They took over Clydebank, shut it down and relaunched it as Airdrie United. Words fail me on that one. Clydebank away was always a top day out for Thistle - local derby and some great banter with no real hatred. You’d often see Marti Pellow at those games as his band sponsored Clydebank. Best pies in Scotland there too! And I was also gutted for Bury FC fans when their club ceased to exist recently - to be so close to Manchester and support The Shakers means you are a proper fan ... it’s always horrible when a fanbase (however small) loses their club ...

  40. Well said. As a Nimby here that is my only concern. I'd like there to be something in place preventing both facilities being used simultaneously. Eg if city are home on a Tuesday night you can't have a concert at the same time. The additional parking needs to be used for football and rugby supporters on matchday

  41. Had a quick read of the two comments voicing objections, and to be fair, they are both positive about the development but wanting reassurance about the parking and traffic situation. Which sounds perfectly reasonable.

  42. They’ve just approved a 16 storey tower block as part of the Bedminster Green project behind St. Katherine’s Precinct mind so I wouldn’t be so sure. Maybe going for 17 is a ploy. Ask for more than you need and negotiate down to what you wanted in the first place anyway!
