  1. No sympathy for either Barca or Real - years and years of spunking money left right and centre and lording it over everyone else in world football has finally caught up with them it would seem..!

  2. Hey hard post for me to write but i've only just seen this page, nice to know that i can reach out to the city community, i'm suffering with depression at the moment lots of different things going on one day im fine then i'm struggling for weeks, hoping once we get back to a routine of city matches this will help me lots, sending love and thoughts to anyone going through similar, and as im sure many of you have said before if anyone needs to talk about anything no matter how trivial or silly it may seem to them please drop me a message it may even help me to know there a fellow reds out there that understand ?

  3. With the greatest respect, you clearly don’t watch Glos very often if you think Bracey should be in this latest England squad. His confidence is shot, IMO, although I hope today’s knock does him the world of good.

  4. I feel for poor old Tom Banton. He returned from overseas early as he was struggling mentally with bubbles etc., was withdrawn from Somerset just as he was coming in to some kind of (excellent) form, only to spend a few days sitting in a pavilion, as a result of which he now has to isolate and self-confine for a week.

  5. Week I think. Month or Year would be pretty straightforward for them to manage.

  6. Sounds like a hard embargo to me, could be just as promised by the EFL for all clubs where the 2020 accounts and disclosure not agreed by the end of June.

  8. I couldn`t have brought myself to switch allegiance to them. In the event of no phoenix club and living in Taunton at the time I`d have probably started watching Exeter or Yeovil but more likely not supported anyone. How could you invest your heart and soul in anyone other than City?

  9. 'Trouble' for a club is all relative of course- there are many, many in worse positions but all the same! Looks like they're under some kind of La Liga imposed Transfer Embargo. High riding clubs don't usually get punished, will be interesting to see how it plays out... Don't get me wrong, certainly players who can be offloaded but if not, will La Liga make it stick...?

  10. Apologies if I missed this... are season card holders being sent new cards ahead of the season or will I need to hunt for the existing ones I have somewhere in the house?

  13. And as a sad antidote to yesterday's slightly encouraging news, another four players leave today.... Meaghan Sargeant, Faye Bryson, Megan Wynne and Sophie Baggaley. Sophie can count herself unlucky not to have won international honours. Very rare she makes a mistake but her departure along with that of Ebony Salmon and Gemma Evans was somewhat inevitable. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/quartet-set-to-depart/

  14. I don't particularly have an issue with Barcelona/Real Madrid etc, but I'd love nothing more than to see these clubs suffer for a while until they are forced to cut their cloth and manage themselves in a better fashion. They've been allowed to get away with it for too long through bullying and coercion - and it sums up their collective arrogance and disdain for everyone else that they desperately wanted to push through the European Super League purely for money, rather than actually dealing with the financial issues that have been bubbling under the surface with reckless abandon for years.

  16. It’s a rarity, but I don’t think the ECB should be criticised for this. As someone that has tickets to two of the games, thanks to rollovers from last summer, I would much prefer watching an England B team, that still has some very good players in it, play Pakistan than to have another thing cancelled. Selfishly though of course I’d rather Craig and Lewis were left to play the much more important games for Somerset!

  17. Right arm, medium fast. He has done well for the seconds and also for England U-19s. I was watching on the live Somerset stream, and he he does not look at all out of place, beating the bat on quite a few occasions.

  19. Broad just pointed this out on social media, good luck for the next 48 hours for the Pakistan analyst who’d probably prepared tactical plans for the entire England squad now has to go looking at some obscure county players they’ve probably never heard of ?

  21. I wonder if the old dynamic of Spain having 2 big clubs has changed in the near future at least. Atletico with their new stadium and Real with their refurb must mean that both of their revenues will increase at a much higher rate than Barca's. With covid killing tourism and already high debt levels as well I suspect that La Liga are actually doing them a favour (without looking at the numbers). Got to admit I haven't heard of any of those players Barcelona sold so doubt they decreased the wage bill much. Not sure how much debt/wage bill they can service but it sounds like they are pushing their limits. It's possible that if inflation keeps going up then interest rates will need to be raised to control it, in that scenario I would be very interested to see how it would effect their numbers. I wouldn't plan on council tax in Catalonia going down anytime soon. ?

  22. They'll do that easily when Messi signs for us I'd imagine. I presume he's included in the figures at the moment?

  23. Absolutely - my comment was a play on words: ‘Mes que un club’. The ‘look at us aren’t we great and not the same as every other team’ rubbish that Barcelona spout just gets on my goat.

  25. Also very unlikely I’ll make the July date now. Had a pretty stiff back after the last couple of runs - an old football injury in the lower back - so went to see the osteopath this evening. Had the old ‘crack yer back’ treatment and it didn’t all loosen up so I gotta go back on 30th July, and he said “no running and definitely no football until then”!! I’ve had a torrid year, one injury after another since the end of Jan. now at least another few weeks rest!

  26. Oh they are quite partial to leaving our fair city - but, like an annoying nephew, they keep coming back - they buggered off to Bath and came back, shafting the rugby team in the process - then they tried to manufacture a move out of the city to South Glos - but, as always with them, that new stadium dream collapsed and melted into nothingness - so they stayed - we are lumbered with the small club that tried very hard to steal our stadium when we were at our lowest ebb - never forget ...

  27. Agree. However, had they never joined the league in the first place I do wonder if we’d have done more as a club? Hopefully they’ll piss off back to non league soon (although I won’t hold my breath). Look at the season we had whilst they were bumming around grounds like Welling and Dover. Their existence is detrimental to football in Bristol.

  28. Administers were appointed and new owners sought, but a package from Ken Sage, Derryn Coller and Bob Boyd was accepted. Quite certain of that, perhaps some finer details to that as well. Just looked up company law and, it states that it became legally binding to appoint administrators in 1986 with an act of parliament. BCFC must have appointed them to act for the shareholders.

  31. Hasn't your Mayor worked out that a city centre built on water wouldn't work with an underground despite the fact that everyone already knew that? He's talking about a tram system now which is much more likely, much cheaper and can utilise all the unused former railway lines all over the city. Pretty much what most people have wanted for the last 30 years.

  33. THE ROBINS FOUNDATION TACKLE LONELINESS FRIDAY, JUNE 18TH 2021 This week people and organisations have come together to raise awareness for loneliness. It's no surprise that this past year has left a lot of people feeling lonely and isolated. As socialising was put on hold, those who had previously relied on attending weekly sessions for their social interactions really struggled. This was very much the case for some of the players of the Bristol City Walking Football team. When Covid-19 first hit back in March 2020 and sessions had to stop Lee Gillett - the Health and Well-being Lead at the Robins Foundation was conscious that some of the elderly players in the walking football team would find it difficult. To tackle this Lee would call to check in on players who lived alone for a chat and to make sure they had everything they needed. Lee would also knock on the player's doors that lived locally to him, for a chat and to drop off sport's equipment so players were able to stay active at home. For many of the players walking football means a lot more than just meeting up with friends and playing football, as for some it is the only social interaction they have. Pre-covid the players would stay after sessions had finished, for a cup of tea and coffee to catch up and check-in with one another. As a team, they would also have quiz nights and organise social events throughout the year. These formed friendships and solid support group has kept many of the players going when they were struggling with their own mental health issues or going through difficult periods of their lives. Lee Gillett said, "Our walking football sessions are much more than just a kick about, we have created a team spirit where we support each other on and off the pitch." To get involved and join the walking football team, feel free to come to the sessions below. Tuesday’s at Imperial Sports Ground South Bristol, BS14 9EA. 10:30am - 11:30am. Cost: £4 (Outdoors) Thursday’s at Imperial Sports Ground South Bristol, BS14 9EA. 10:30am - 11:30am. Cost: £4 (Outdoors) Should you require any additional information on these sessions, please contact the Robins Foundation on 0117 963 0636 or email: lee.gillett@bcfc.co.uk If you or anyone you know feels lonely or struggling please contact Samaritans Call: 116 123 Email: jo@samaritans.org
