  1. Did they need a new keeper..? He must be a keeper, right..?!

  2. Thought this would be the case. With everyone together at the training ground, a trimmer senior squad is gonna need the young’uns for training anyway…let alone those who’ve proved themselves good enough to be around the team. Nige likes his 11v11s too. Pretty happy with this.

  3. A very thoughtful and very reasonable assessment from Nige. He certainly knows how to oversee and manage a squad of players. He says all the right things from a fans and players perspective and keeps the players keen and enthusiastic to desperately want a place in the matchday squad. To me he’s very different in the way he conducts his interviews to any other City manager that I can remember and that’s very refreshing to see

  4. I saw a picture of one of their new signings yesterday and he looked like what Kryten from Red Dwarf would look like if you drew eyebrows and a haircut on him with a black marker.

  5. Scott and Conway are the two that excite me more than the others and I`m hoping they are both in and around the first team.

  6. These players could be anyone! They all look like some random bloke they`ve pulled in off the Gloucester Road and paid to hold up a scarf. A bit like a police ID parade.

  8. NP explaining his thinking on loans re our younger players: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/big-chance-bristol-citys-young-5635963 Makes sense to me and sends a hugely positive message to all the younger players.

  10. I can see why you'd think that, but believe it or not, he's a top striker !

  11. I think that he has been incredibly successful at tightening up the rules, increasing transparency and keeping the majority of clubs onside.

  13. Luke someone or another has signed on a season loan from Barnsley. JB says he shows we mean business, a great talent..................er, ONE goal in 58 starts, impressive !

  14. Great to read. This season is not a play off push season so if we aren’t going to try to blood these kids now then when? Conway, Scott and Bell should be starting at least 15 home games this season each and featuring in another 10-15 off the bench. I would caveat that by saying if we are in a proper relegation battle the numbers may well be reduced

  16. It simplifies and speeds up justice and it reduces costs significantly. Team A has breached FFP by say an amount which it means a 6 point penalty arises. If both parties so wish, why not agree a 6 point penalty arises.

  17. What's all this about Derby "accepting" a suspended 3 point penalty? Surely a punishment for breaching law/rules is given to the offender - whether they like it or not. This makes it sound as though this has all been cosily agreed, by negotiation, behind closed doors (or across a dining table!?!) If this goes on much longer and the EFL backtrack much further they will be giving Derby a 6 points flying start over the rest if the championship and £10m to help them get back on their feet. I do not apologise fir my cynicism!

  18. My understanding is that the EFL as a corporate group has been genuinely knocked for six by the amount of bad publicity in respect of the disciplinary processes. They didn't really understand that company accounts are freely available, easy to access, and generally easy to read, plus of course it is obvious from other public records (such as the Land Registry) who has done what and when. So from a point where little was done on financial compliance, we are now at the point where this season: Sheffield Wednesday ended up with a 6 point penalty; Derby County got a £100,000 fine and a requirement to restate all the defective accounts; A large number of clubs were put on a soft transfer embargo for not submitting accounts to Companies House on time; Sheffield Wednesday have a 6 point suspended penalty for not paying some of their players over an extended period; Derby County have a 3 point suspended penalty for not paying any of their players for one month; Hull City are on a transfer embargo as a condition of the loan they took out; Reading are on a transfer embargo for a breach of P&S rules; Derby County are on a transfer embargo for numerous offences. We have publication of the Embargo List, with reasons. Fixed asset sale profits no longer count for P&S purposes I'm more than happy for now. I would love to see further progress, but good so far.

  19. I take your points but I would like to see an automatic 3 point deduction if, say, a club fails to pay its players twice in the same season with further deductions for subsequent failures. The problem is that the EFL is the clubs not an independent governing body. I suspect many clubs don't want a stronger regime in case they want to break the rules themselves in future. And decisions of the Independent Panel and subsequent appeal decisions seem to be remarkably timid. I suspect a plea bargain was agreed with Derby and Wednesday in this case. Let's see if Swindon get a feeble penalty for paying their players late but short of government intervention I don't expect football's governing bodies to ever get their act in order. Love the game, hate the business.

  20. PPS, a few might be interested in this post. I am sure it won't happen but Derby you might recall fielded a Youth Team or not far off at Chorley in the FA Cup in January due to Covid... ...Technically, one game could mean Professional Standing- a lot of those in that game have not played for Derby before or after! Wonder if the EFL could impose this restriction while the issues remain live.

  24. Oh they are quite partial to leaving our fair city - but, like an annoying nephew, they keep coming back - they buggered off to Bath and came back, shafting the rugby team in the process - then they tried to manufacture a move out of the city to South Glos - but, as always with them, that new stadium dream collapsed and melted into nothingness - so they stayed - we are lumbered with the small club that tried very hard to steal our stadium when we were at our lowest ebb - never forget ...
